Is there an App for everything?

After puzzling over what app I could program for around 3 months now, I'm beginning to feel like everything has been done several times over.

If anyone can come up with an idea for a single developer (me) to implement, I'm listening! The challenge is, it mustn't have been done before.

Here's one I've been looking for unsuccessfully, for a few months now. I would LOVE for someone to create a popup for Gtalk (think Handcent). There are several of those for texting, but none for Gtalk. Maybe even an app that combines both?

I'd love to find an app that would let me stream ASX-format video streams so that I could view the live video feeds from any of the 200+ "CalTrans" (California) traffic cameras. I have not been able to find an Android app that can view ASX video streams. I don't know if people in other states (or countries) have the same need.

I'd love an app that'd recognize keywords in my text and allow me to click them and make a calendar entry for that item.

for example, if someone texts:
dinner party at 6 on next tuesday?

The whole sentence would be underlined and maybe in a blue color, and then i'd click it, and it'd autofill in all the entries for like May 24, 6pm - dinner party.

I think there's high demand for apps that merge multiple functions into one.

oh and is there anything that lets me see, play, AND edit music files? So far it's a PITA to realize I mis-named the artist on one of my music files, which puts it in a separate category from the rest of the songs.

What you want is pretty much what HTC Contacts does. However, having a custom ROM I dont know if its a Sense 2.1 or Sense 3.0 feature. (I had a HTC Desire with the old Sense)

One thing I fear is dropping my phone while out and not hearing it fall, because of its case or whatever. I would buy an app that senses the shock of a phone hitting the ground, and emits a noise. Not a super-loud annoying noise, just something that lets me know I dropped it. If I could make apps, that's what I'd do.

I'm looking for a speech-to-text memo app. The closest thing I have found is using Google voice search "note to self", which requires network access and delivers the note in the form of an email.

This should be the most straight forward one so I'll focus on that first I'll make a setting for the user to assign a ringtone or mp3 or something to play when dropped, it should be quite easy!

Edit: It turns out that it's not possible on most phones to keep sensors being monitored while the phone is in standby. There are two workarounds, neither of which is probably acceptable, since the first only works on a few phones, and the second seriously hurts battery life, which explains why there aren't any drop detectors out there...

They'll probably start appearing once more phones are on android 2.3 or later, which (sorry, lost the link) supposedly has fixed this problem.

I would love to see a dimensional calculator for architects and builders like ArchiCalc which I used on my Palm.

It allows input in decimal or fraction, metric or inch, or mixed, and conversions are easy. There are all kinds of other construction calculators, but they are either way too complex or inputting numbers is too cumbersome.

I've tried to contact the original developer (Tom Boeman). Seems to have disappeared.

I use an app called VoiceChoice to be able to set certain contacts that are called from my Google Voice number, and have another list of contacts that are just dialed directly.

I'd like an app which does the same for SMS or text messages.

What I need is an app that allows me to calibrate the auto-brightness feature on my phone. Currently the default auto-brightness calibration really sucks. It's only good in bright sunlight where the brightness is set to 100%. When I walk indoors or in complete darkness, the auto-brightness sets the brightness too bright for my liking.

What I currently do is use a widget that allows me to toggle between 3 brightness settings with a single tap. I toggle between 100%, 30% and 9% depending on how bright the room is. What I would like is for auto-brightness to change the brightness of the screen to 100% when I'm outside, change to 30% when I'm indoors and change to 9% in darkness automatically based on what the phone reads from the light sensor. If you can create an app like this, I'd gladly pay for it.

Sounds just like the claim that "Everything has been invented". Part of this process (inventing or developing apps) is finding niches to fill. We're far from having invented everything or writing every possible app.

You can currently do this with the Flex T9 keyboard. Just put a shortcut to your file you're keeping your notes in on your home screen. Open up said file and start dictating to it. Save when you're done. Profit.

I'm not sure if one exists or not but how about a lotto number generating program with the following requirements:

- it can handle any state's lotto, including Powerball, Mega Millions, and whatever other kinds of lotto's the 50 states offer. I'll make it easy and just do Powerball and Mega Millions to start off.

- the random numbers come out (stamped onto ping pong balls) from one of those bingo type ball dispensers.

- Store the numbers and then after the official drawings, check if any of the numbers are winners.

hows that for an app? Think you can ya handle it?

Not sure if tasker can do this, but an app that senses when you leave an area (say a 200' radius), and calls home and sends a prerecorded message like "honey, I'm on my way home" (without you having to touch the phone).
