Replacement Roulette

Well, here I go...I'm entering the t-bolt replacement zone. I probably wouldn't have sent for a replacement had it just been a matter of some reboots since this will apparently be corrected with a software fix. I confirmed this with htc today when they actually stated that they are still suggesting that verizon replace phones suffering lots of random reboots, but then recommending that users avoid downloading the current software update if not already installed. They pointed out that this way someone can have a working phone (i.e. non-rebooting) until the newer update is released with the fix. At least that tells us it's on the way.

So, why am I replacing? It's because the only problem with my t-bolt is that the camcorder audio issue was not fixed with the update. Yep, guess I'm one of the few unlucky ones that this did not help in that department. Given that this is not a widespread issue and was apparently fixed for the majority with the current update, I'm guessing they probably will not address it in the new and improved version being worked on. After reading sooooo many who have had multiple replacements...with each one having a different issue...from lots of reboots to quick loss of battery power to gaping light leaks...I'm just a little worried about the the risk of ending up with something worse. I'll definitely have some pondering to do when it arrives tomorrow. Geez, what a giant 4G game of chance!!

Place your bets anyone?

I'm considering number four... and im going to have to make a scene to not get a refurb... maybe a refurb would be good at this point?

two bad power buttons, one was literally delivered unable to turn the phone on. bad battery on the third and did the update, and this one has the speakerphone echo for people on the other end, and yes it is me not them, the battery is worse than the first couple as well... I'm about done with verizon and htc. I played with a charge and hated the interface but maybe if I threaten cancellation I can get a switch.. I'm at 17 days unfortunately.. I just want vanilla android w some speed and reliability...

See....that's what I'm afraid of!

And here's a new one for your Saturday entertainment...when I was on the phone with Verizon setting up my replacement, the rep. says, "We can't guarantee that it will be the same make and model." What, huh??? I gently and politely suggested that they were insane. She said, "No sir, we retain the right to substitute with something else. Like when customers needed their Blackberry Storms replaced and we didn't have that anymore, we substituted a Blackberry Storm 2." You gotta love this, though, right?

Hey, maybe when FedEx arrives this morninig it'll be a Sensation 4G? Whoops, sorry, that's being just plain silly. :p

Sounds like the person was just reading from a script. They generally replace with a different model once your model is out of stock. For example they may replace a incredible with an incredible 2 or an og droid with a droid 2. It's rare that they would replace your phone with something lower or completely different. At this point I think they'd give you a brand new thunderbolt before giving you something random.

I am currently on number 4, and was told that at 5 they would let me choose another device. My first one was great, but after a few weeks it wouldn't hold a charge. 2nd one was great until the reboot started. They sent out the 3rd and as soon as I started it up, none of the lights worked. Now I am on my 4th and its working well even after the updates. Gps locks fast, no reboot, keyboard doesnt lag, browser is faster and I have a bit better battery life. Its an inconvenience to have another one sent, but if it helps then why not. My upside was that I was going to reset anyway, so it really was no different. Just my 2 cents. Also, I got all of mine sent over night, not 2 day. I was concerned about the 5 day window that your phone needs to be returned, so they sent them out next day to avoid any issue.

Thanks...that's hopeful. As long as they don't ship me any of those 3 you sent back. :)

Do you have to activate the phone at all or is it all done by the SIM installation now?

From my understanding (which maybe completely wrong lol) if you are going from a 3G to a 4G phone or vice versa, you need to activate it the new phone.
But if you are going from a 4G to a 4G phone all that needs to be done is a switch of the SIM card.

Someone please correct me if this not correct :)

You would seem to be correct as my t-bolt replacement I just got self-activated with just the sim card being put in from the old phone.

So far...the camcorder audio is fine - I can actually hear it! And the gps appears to lock much more quickly than my original t-bolt. The new phone did immediately prompt me to accept the update when I powered it up, so I did so. (I know, I know). But...that dang power button is much more recessed than my old phone, so this could become a problem. And I notice the new one is heating up and feeling warm to the touch while using some functions which is something my first one never did. I had a fear about indented buttons and burning hot phones after reading some experiences here. Oh well, if you suddenly don't see me around the forum, you'll know my power switch got stuck and I spontaneously combusted or something from the subsequent overheating!

I have had 3 replacement and it seems each has a different problem than the last. I am getting tired of this may just sell my tb and get something else.

I just called and my 3rd device is on the way. "i guarantee this will fix your problem sir" ... What a crock. Why do these VZW people keep acting like its only my device that is doing all of this.

I recently received a replacement phone after complaining about the rebooting issues. Since I was out of my 14 day window, I received a "certified like new" phone. The phone appeared to be brand new and I couldn't find any scratches, nicks or any other cosmetic issues. Everything was great until I put the battery in and turned it on. The light leakage from the bottom was absolutely horrendous. My current phone has a small amount of leakage that I don't even notice unless I'm looking for it. This was something else entirely. Apparently Verizon is trying to flip all of the returns they've had for the light leakage. I sent it back and told Verizon not to bother sending another one. I'll wait for a software fix for the rebooting problems.
