Nexus S 4G free or $200 for evo 3d?

Hey,

Switching from iphone 4/att.

Been waiting for an evo 3d, but because of the free with contract offer amazon is offering this monday, tempted to go to a nexus S 4g. Makes handling the ETF even easier to handle.

Thoughts.

Dual core is great, not completly sold on needing it just yet.

Hesitant because of antennae issues I hear about and lack of sense (yes I like it).

Thoughts?

Nexus S, because you get Android as Google intended and not lobotomised by some manufacturer.

My issue is that I like sense.

Had a cliq XT running CM7. It was great, but did like the sense UI when I had a droid incredible for a week last year (tried it out, battery life was horrible, worried about losing att unlimited --lost already...reason for abandoning my iphone)

Nexus S does not have microSD card slot. A deal breaker for me. imho a Google Experience phone should NEVER be without a microSD card.

But it may work fine for you.

About the SD card slot or lack thereof. My current 16GB Galaxy S does have an SD card slot, but in 9 months using the Galaxy, I've yet to actually use the SD card slot, in fact I don't own an SD card anyway.

Some may need it, some may not.

Once again, it's not just about the storage size.

It is about the safety of the data. If your phone is bricked, kiss your internal data bye bye.

And if you flash ROMs, sometimes you have to do a "Master Clear" which clears the internal storage. Kiss your data bye bye unless you take the hassle to back up, and then restore after the ROM is put on there. I've had to do a Master Clear 3-4 times on my phones when flashing ROMs because I'm trying out a new ROM, then needed to do a NAND recovery to get some old app / data or do something else. It's a huge hassle to have to move the data back on and off the internal storage. So much easier just to slide in and out the external microSD card.


There is NO EXCUSE for the lack of microSD cards on Android phones, NONE. If I wanted a phone without microSD cards, I'll stick with my iPhone or use WP7 phones.

I've had a phone without an SD Slot for over two years. It's never been an issue for me.

I don't think having a SD is a requirement for a good phone. While I understand your point of view, just because somebody has a different opinion than you does not make them wrong.

Some may need it, some may not. It's really personal preference and Android is all about the users deciding what they want. Choices.

I think I'll go with the Evo 3d after reading some of these comments.

Prior to cliq XT I would have gone after the stock google phone just because I'm used to getting OS updates from apple.
The SD card isn't much of an issue for me.
Screen on nexus S is great. Seems like HTC Super LCDs aren't very consistent in terms of quality.

The real big incentive for me was the difference in cost. savings of $200 by not having to purchase a new phone. It is still an attractive option based on the many expenses I have coming up (at least 1 car, honeymoon, moving cities, etc).

But knowing myself, I probably would lament not getting the evo 3d after a month or two with the nexus.

But again.... I don't want to wait till August/September to be getting a new phone.

Btw, is nexus tethering free, as legit from Spring. Or is it the round about way of "free" tethering?

Mos def the EVO 3D if you have the money...there is really no comparison IMO. I mean the Nexus is a nice phone but doesn't really match up to the 3D.

Yes backups are extremely important. So I backup any new photos or videos to my laptop when I charge the phone via USB, and any music which is on the phone came from my PC in the first place. Contacts and calendar are on Google, and what few apps I've got can be re-downloaded from the Market.

After all if the phone is stolen or lost and the SD card is in the phone, the SD card has gone as well.

And if you flash ROMs,

I upgraded the firmware in my phone once when I first got it, to bring it from Eclair 2.1 to Froyo 2.2, and have had no reason to do it again, ....if it isn't broken don't fix it.

You might need an SD card slot for whatever reasons you think are important. My phone does indeed have an SD card slot, but again I've yet to actually use it. BTW I wouldn't trust SD cards from this part of the world anyway, too many fakes, same with USB sticks.

The released flyer speculates that the evo 3d may be released the 4th week of June or July.

Was counting on the $125 trasnfer credit.
