3dEvo: Pre-release miscellany

Forget another date and the trim - check that site out - HTC is releasing the OpenSense SDK, to allow devs to customize for us.

Whoa. Srsly. Whoa.

So what does that mean in layman's terms exactly, EarlyMon.

Does this basically allow developers to create customizations directly on HTC Sense?

I am glad htc is doing this. I swear when I read this earlier today I jizzed a little. LOL Anyway glad to see htc going in this direction and it makes me very comfortable owning an htc device.

It means developers can create apps that are Sense-like.

The HTC OpenSense SDK will allow developers to harness software and hardware innovations on HTC phones to develop more deeply integrated mobile apps and experiences. Altogether, you'll have access to documentation, sample code, APIs and more importantly, the support and inspiration of the HTCdev community.

The Common Controls:
As a part of the latest Sense UI framework, HTC developed a suite of customized controls that Android application developers can use to create a Sense look and feel within their applications.

That means Sense dialog boxes, buttons, progress bars.

Be among the first to access the latest HTC technology with the Tablet pen API and Stereoscopic 3D display API and sample code.

That means access to develop 3D stuff - jump started with samples of working code.

~~~~~
It means devs get to use a common code with Sense - if the feature works in Sense, it'll work in the new app, same way.
Now that's a great MOD answer right there! Thanks so much. It seriously keeps the EVO 3D in consideration for me. Even though, right now (based on rumors only), it still seems like the Photon 4G might be my upgrade of choice, I'll hopefully have a better guess by June 9.
Just to add on top of this, from a business perspective, I think it's a GREAT thing for HTC. It allows them to keep interest in their own UI, while at the same time allowing developers to just make tweaks from their existing UI. This also saves HTC time from having to try and incorporate ALL of the customer's needs, when they open it up for developers to create some fantastic customizations on the side! IMO, that's a win-win situation for HTC.
I am so excited for this phone. I currently have a Droidx and this phone is causing me to switch from Verizon to Sprint just to get it. What I don't get is the customer support.
I called in for the first time today to try and figure out some pricing and everything. I told the rep I want the evo 3d and he flat out told me to get the EVO 4g right now because it is "much more better" than the Droidx. Whatever that's great bad english doesn't make me that mad. I said again I am waiting for the evo 3d. He then said that phone isn't even in production and it will not be out for another year. He said I might as well just get the Evo 4g now or I'll have to stay with verizon.
His exact words. I am not using this single experience to judge the whole carrier. Just irked me. So here is something to learn from this, don't trust the sprint rep on the other side of the phone.
Here is hoping for June 24th!!
Also something interesting is it looks like a Sprint Source confirmed the Galaxy SII will be released end of July. I wonder how the E3D will hold up. Rumor is though SII will be more expensive.
AndroidSPIN AS Exlusive: Sprint Source Confirms Late July Release for the Samsung Within (Galaxy S 2)
This blows my mind... I didn't expect to see the S2 states-side until the end of the year... every time I think I know which phone I'm going to get another news story like this break... this is insane. The Evo3D and the S2 back to back? NUTS! How can you possibly decide between these two beasts!?!? :eek:
Gonna be real easy for me.
I wish I had the confidence and the experience with Android, the manufacturers, the interfaces, and the technical specifications to be that confident in my choices here.
If this was a PC, TV, Laptop, or almost any other piece of technology I would know instantly what I would want. I'm ignorant here still even though I've really been doing some hard research. Both on these forums and playing with the phones in-store.
Trying to look over the FCC DOCS.
It seems HTC submitted the phone March 30th and from what I can gather it passed the FCC on May 21?
Anyone get something different?
No, it was a lot longer. Reading it now, on break, this phone was sitting in test labs forever, but remind you, the earthquake really messed things up.
Product was received on jan 20, 2011, it was released on may 21.
Horray!!!!!! Full 10mhz spread!!!!! Nice power consumption, really good in the off state. The power ratings are good on the radios, pretty low.
The camera really messed with stuff. They had to redo the whole face shielding to get the battery in. No wonder this is no kickstand.
Not bad, had to be retested a few times and the report seems to have been disjointed. May 21st is the reason we have june 24 launch and why there was rumors around june 4th, because it would be about 20 days late, just do to the fact that it stayed in testing for feb, march, april, and may.
Well, right now I'm on a Samsung Seek until or IF my Smartphone ever gets repaired. It's been "being repaired" for 38 days now. My Smartphone is a Palm Pre. Please don't laugh. :p I hate the thing :eek:
You know what's interesting coming into the Android community? I've noticed most of the "geeks" or Technofile type of people are all HTC fans and *hate* Samsung phones. But when asked they wont usually give you a straight answer as to why other than "poor customer service".
The fact that so many Technologically inclined people (like myself) are HTC fans is a big plus towards flipping that coin towards the Evo3D. I build my own gaming rigs and have been doing so for over 10 years...
When I come into the Evo3D or HTC forums they feel like "my people" if that makes sense LOL... It's like going to Comicon, you just feel home. Hahaha...
