Gingerbread impressions/tips/problems NON ROOTED STOCK ONLY

Ok, I know you think that my link earlier in the thread did not work, but the keyboard you are using is proof that it did. If you want those extra features, go back to the Market and pay $.99 for the full app rather than the free one you are using. It will appear as Gingerbread keyboard in your input options.

Oh..ok so that actually is it? That was confusing..and explains why I could not change certain things.

So yes, it does work and I gave android OS too much credit there..lol.

Yea I have been using the stock app because I have no idea how to turn off the notification of the stock app to use handcent.

Also my phone had the ability to call people which I did not want - lets say I would want to call my brother and instead it will call a random person from my contact list even though I did press on my brother's phone number. Just weird!!!
Regarding the notifications and Handscent, I couldn't turn off the stock app's notifications either (apparantly there is a way, I didn't research too much), but what you can do is turn off Handscent's notifications. When the stock notification comes up, the phone should ask you what application you want to use, and from there, you can tell it to always use Handscent. The only downside to this is that for whatever reason, when there are multiple text notifications, it will open with the stock app instead of Handscent in my experience.

I was very excited about the update until i read all of these issues (especially the netflix issue). So I wont be installing the update until Netflix updates on market for Ginger support or there is a new OTA update from sprint.

Plus I just got the extended battery from sprint yesterday and my phone is going 20+ hours with no charge. Thats full blown surfing, texting, calling.

Sad that these issues arent discovered before the release :(

Do you need to have the previous update installed before you can get Gingerbread? When I try to get the update, I am only being offered with 3.70.651.1, which I didn't want before due to the multiple issues a lot of folks had with it. Has anyone been able to get the new one without having to previously install 3.70? Thanks!

I was rooted on the latest ROM but didn't want to wait on someone to root the update, so I reflashed to an October PC36IMG.zip and had to install the Nov and Dec updates before it would let me install today's update.

I went to HTC Software update, hit the "check now" button and it said "update available." I remebered I didn't have wi-fi on so I exited, turned on wi-fi, came back and hit the 'software update' again and now it keeps telling me 'your phone is up to date, no updates available for your phone"
Did i bork myself?

Got this from a guy in another thread. You need to check for update with the WiFi off. When you go to download the update, you then have the option to use WiFi.

Did anybody hard reset? Debating whether I should or not and there are some apps that are no longer on the market, but I can't back up because they're on the phone and can't be transfered to the SD.

If you want to hard reset first, you can back them up if you install ASTRO. I backed up ones the other day are either no longer available or I did not want to update in case of any problems during the update.

Also, I had about 20 of my App shortcuts lose their icons, reverting to a generic Android green android guy with the appropriate text underneath. I trashed them and replaced them with fresh shortcuts, and all was well.

Same here, but when I did a restart it happened again. Also because I only have 39MB free I can't update any on my apps!

Speed improvement is awesome. Web browsing is smoking and has refresh and browser close icon top right next to the url bar. Nice touch! Animations on the sense clock is a welcome addition as well. Just put full charge on and going to see what my batt life is like. 3G is working much better as well (more bars) in areas where I had only one are two bars. Can't wait to speedtest 4G.

Yep. Dang. A restart brought them all back. For me, it only happens to (some of the) shortcuts that reside inside desktop folders.

Also, restarting brought the phantom voice mail back, although it was just as easily cleared, again.

ShootMe was never supposed to work on an unrooted Evo -- whatever the reason is that it worked is essentially an open exploit, so for better or worse, it's the right thing that it's closed up now.

Legit point, unfortunate if the case. I did a quick browse and didn't notice any capture type apps even pay ones, that are advertised to work with non-rooted phones, are there any?
