Gingerbread impressions/tips/problems NON ROOTED STOCK ONLY

updated this morning and other than perf seeming a tad faster- no jaw dropping new features (which seems to confirm bland release notes for 4.22.651.2)

HTC, Sprint, and Google hope you are enjoying the latest update to a device that set the standard for all mobile devices to follow nearly a year ago(EVO 4G). Important to note that a water down version of Gingerbread be introduced first because of EVO 4G mass popularity. Functionaliity had to be first and for most. Repeating mistakes made by other carriers was not going to be acceptable by the EVO community. This update addresses some of the pressing concerns by the EVO community. Once we are satisfied no major issues are associated with current upgrade we will proceed with 2.3.4 If no major issues other than Netflix you can expect June 9th 2.3.4 OTA update.
2.3.4 will include:
1) Landscape for home screen
2) Gingerbread keyboard option
3) Further performance improvements
4) Video chat (Google)
5) Sense UI update

Like EVO 3D we are listening to what the expectations are from the community.
BSOD
P.S. Netflix will be updated and streaming ASAP as this issue is being resolved. Expect an update with in 24hrs at the latest Monday June 6th.

thanks. which Sense will it get? 2.1? ie comparable to Thunderbolt?

Again as stated before go to Settings > Call > Clear Voicemail Notification to fix this.
Sorry I missed your first post. However after I cleared them yesterday turned my phone off and turned it back on the notification came back stating i have 6 voicemails.

My phone says there is no update available for my phone, but I am on 2.2. What gives? How can I get it to update?

Try it via wifi connection, if possible.

If it still doesn't come up, update your PRL and see if that triggers it.

If that doesn't help, not sure what else you can do except keep checking.

Interesting, so a 2nd update coming on the same day as the Motorola event this Thursday?

No major issues to report here....only one I have is no LED indicator light, which I'm sure will be adressed. Some Gameloft games aren't working but I believe that is more of a compatibility issue than anything. With the old version I was having issues with WiFi having to be turned off then back on to keep the connection. No issues with that so far in this new update.

Otherwise minor updates like has been stated. I see a very big performance boost with this update.

Hopefully this is just a trial upgrade to assure that there are no major issues and a second release will happen with updated sense, and a few more gadgets.

So far I'm happy with it.

Has anyone else noticed the compass no longer working? Compass seems to go all over the place, tipping the phone make it indicate different directions, never correct. Google sky map shows the phone as always pointed south, and aiming the phone just changes the altitude.

Which compass??

Well if this is true ( and you have always been very accurate in the past) then I will be very happy.

Well BlueScreen, You were right about getting Gingerbread before the EVO 3D was to be released. I hope you are right about the above also. I think many of us would love to see these features. Look forward to more information from you in the future.

"Which compass?"
Every app that tries to use the internal sensor.
They are all reading incorrect.

No matter which way the phone is turned, south always goes to the highest point on the screen.
:-(

Yea now that you say that, I only get vertical scaling with sky map, and star chart. No horizontal. Star chart seems to be stuck in the south position, and Sky Map is stuck in the North Position. I even re-calibrated the g-sensor. Hmmmm Weird....

so their going to send out a second update 3 days after they just sent out one?

I thought the battery issue was fixed?

I charged the phone overnight, woke up it was at 100%. Within 10 minutes it was down to 91%. It is sticking at 91 but it went down right away.

Didnt they fix that?

I would agree with you. Same battery issue still exists on my phone as well..

Given that they just released 2.3.3, I would be VERY (pleasantly) surprised if they did release 2.3.4 on June 9th 2011 :)
But I do remember that HTC had tweeted something about some features from Sense 3.0 might trickle down to "previous devices" - Twitter

So, another update may still be possible! By June 9th? Hmm... that just seems unlikely - but hey, I would be happy to be wrong :)

Like the other folks posted, I hope we get another update on June 9th!!! That would be AWESOME!

Out of curiosity, where did the quote originate? From HTC? Sprint? or Google?

i noticed better battery life, apps are a little faster and the stock browser is compatible with more web sites, specifically ebaumsworld. it used to load like a jigsaw puzzle, now it's good.

my alarm clock was reset as well.

as previously mentioned; i wish they would add an option to turn off that "text re-organizing POS whenever you zoom" thing that makes you loose your place every time you zoom in the browser! wtf are they waiting for!?!?!

oh, and they need to change the audio format used for recording videos because it sounds like hell. i was sure this would be fixed this time around, but i was wrong.

these 2 things have been burning my ass (and many others) since day 1. i can't believe they're not fixed yet.

I notice that the "Silent Mode" and "Vibration Mode" menu options are gone from the menu that pops up when you hold down the power button. WHY would they have removed these? I use them all the time!

Maybe because they now have the Profile widget which gives you these options?
