Screen scratched, rolling the dice.

I have been having reboot issues now for a month or so. But unlike most people I took it like a MAN.

But somehow I scratched my screen. And so I decided to call in and get a phone that doesn't reboot, and secondly doesn't have a scratched screen.

Is this legit?

Or am I being borderline unethetical? Although I hear I might get some instant karma with the way these replacements suck.

I wish there was a way I could switch to the Charge.

I'm on my second phone now for about a month (I was lucky enough to get another brand new phone) and am still having reboot issues. So i'll wait until the update comes out, or another phone comes out.

You're always playing the odds when you get another phone as it can happen with a new or used one. Most people think certified like new phones are a joke and it doesn't really matter. There are thousands of things that can happen to a phone to cause it to go nuts and 99% of them are things you can't prevent.

Ethical issue? I think not.

If anything, the ethical issue here is that a company shouldn't be releasing product that isn't going to work! Or at the very least, make it known there are issues and when (an approximation) they expect to resolve it!

I believe he was refering to returning a phone with a scratched screen.. As long as it's not cracked, busted up or looks neglected you'll be fine. I'll leave the ethical judgement for the others...

Personally, I wouldn't worry about the ethics of it, but earlier this year Verizon did institute a very strict new policy whereby they theoretically could end up charging your account $300 for non--wear & tear damage, including scratches. I expect they will only be applying this policy in extreme cases. At least I hope so. Here's a pretty scary article about the new policy:

I do not think this is a problem (at least not ethically). My litmus test would be if a screen protector was provided with the phone. Since it was not, it would seem that the intended use of the phone was without the protector. Now, that leaves small scratches up to normal wear and tear. If you have a scratch that looks like you took a diamond engraving tool thing (or hydrofluoric acid), then perhaps you might be gaming the system a bit (I would still say it was ok). But just like a small scratch on the outside is normal wear and tear, I would say that a small one on the screen is also wear and tear.


Than being said, the real thing that matters is if verizon has a problem with it.

unethical... Hell no. What's unethical is HTC selling a phone prematurely and now dragging their feet to fix the issue. I think HTC will lose allot of customers because of this.

And you can get a charge. My tbolt is 40 days old, I called concerning the reboot issue and explained that I needed a stable phone and my charge is in transit now as we speak.

I think you feel deep down that its wrong. Only you can say if its ok or not. I would think the rebooting would drive you mad sooner than a.scratched screen. I hope your replacement you slap a screen protector on her. Many people has a misconception about gorilla glass and one day they find out its not scratch proof.

Don't worry about the new phone or like new phone. It has an issue and I have been patient with these reboot but its wearing thin as I think HTC/ Verizon has had plenty of time to fix the issue. I am about to ask for a different phone. But really all the 4G phones are having issues in one way or the other.

Enjoy the replacement and don't lose no sleep over your reasons. I am sure karma has bigger fish to fry than you.

This blows! I just got off the phone with Verizon and they are willing to send us two replacements but due to the stipulations above, we would be charged $600 cause I have three small areas on my case that are scratched and so does my husband. Wow, they really know how to stick it up a person's ar$e don't they! Unbelieveable!!

well look at it this way if some people wouldn't take advantage of verizon. Then they wouldn't have to make it so strict.

why i have a case and screen protector on mine. If something.happens to my phone. It will look brand.new.

I have a case and a screen protector on mine as well. But there are times Murphy's Law kicks in and the one time you have your phone out of the case you drop it and it gets scuffed....

I am sure they mean abuse and not normal wear and tear. If they think the phone should be flawless over time. They are sadly mistaken and they don't give up a. Flawless phone to begin with. Ho many bugs do a haven now lol.
