I wanted a new, fast, dual core Android phone to replace my aging Galaxy Portal. Noticed the new LG Optimus 3D seemed to offer the best price deals but was unsure about the 3D being a gimmick. WRONG! This phone is the beginning of a revolution.

I don't care what phone you've seen, heard about or want, check this out BEFORE you sign up. I've shown this phone to people who have just upgraded to "whatever" and the look of dismay on their faces is getting a little upsetting for me. The 3D makes all previous hand sets (of any manufacturer) instantly outdated.

This technology is going to be MASSIVE and all phone makers will have to adopt it to survive.

The phone is available on CRAZY cheap contracts here in the UK at the moment.

Congratulations on your new phone man, hopefully you enjoy it
Personally I consider 3D phones the biggest waste of time since iPhone's fart apps if not more gimmicky, these companies build a phone with a new unnecessary technology that's useless and will never be needed such as 16MP Cameras and 3D phones. I understand this is a first time thing and all and by default it's considered "revolutionary" but honestly i'd rather get an Optimus Black instead of 3D, as I think it's useless.

Again, focus on the underlined word.

Peace.

And you read my post about negativity and have actually had one in your hands and tried one?

Agree with this 100% except for the alternate phone recommendation. I think 3D in general (not just on phones) is a huge gimmick. I've played with 3D phones and other 3D devices and all of them have given me a huge headache after about 10 mins of use without bringing anything significant to the table. Do they look "cool"? Sure. I'll give you that. Do they bring anything of extra value to the phone or other device? No they don't IMO.

Remind anyone else of...........why on earth would anyone want...........

a mobile phone/peoples numbers stored on a phone/music on a phone/a camera on a phone/games on a phone/a phone that plays & records video/etc. etc. It's called development, it is not the work of the devil ;-)

Dual core, super fast, with specs at the high end of todays technology AND 3D which you don't HAVE to use. The 2D interface is also excellent btw. and cheap! it's a no-brainer, ain't it?

Dual Core and these specs are useful, leafs to 1080p Full HD recording which leaves you not needing a video camera. Music ditches the iPod and NO ONE likes a slow/lagging phone. 3D on a phone ... why exactly ? No reason found = Meh. It's just a price-raiser/show-off tool imo.

3D on a phone ... why exactly ?

How about to watch 3D movies, make 3D movies (there was quite a bit of fuss recently about a film called Avatar, maybe you heard about it? didn't do much tho' apart from be the biggest grossing film of all f**king time! ) view and take 3D photos, watch the youtube 3D channel (what? you never even heard of it?). Play 3D games, hey your nintendo 3DS can now join your iPod :)

Like I said, many owners of phones that were "the dogs bollocks" last week are truly upset when they suddenly see this new technology and realise those bollocks have just been kicked very hard. It's OK, some people still have betamax VCR's

You will get over it, in about 2 years when your contract is up and you can upgrade too.

"a waste of time and a gimmick" ?? So next year HTC's adverts will say "quietly brilliant at wasting everyones time with our new gimmick phone" ? I don't think so :D

Why U mad tho ? I'm starting to think you're trolling us

How about to watch 3D movies

Not at all, owners of 32" 3DTVs think it's too small to watch a 3D movie in a small TV, you're telling me a phone ? That doesn't even make sense, why would you watch a 3D movie in a phone ? Lol.

make 3D movies

Oh no shit, you're going to buy a phone to film a 3D movie and sell it in your professional studio or basement just cause you have a phone that films in 3D, why not use a professional camera ? At least make sure you're a popular script writer or working at a label, what I said .. USELESS

(there was quite a bit of fuss recently about a film called Avitar, maybe you heard about it? didn't do much tho' apart from be the biggest grossing film of all f**king time! )

I never heard of any type of movie called "Avitar" but I know Avatar and it sucked, I didn't like it, never liked it, never will. These teenagers overrate anything, it's like when people say Lady Gaga is the greatest musician of all time .. LOL!

view and take 3D photos

Again .. in a phone ?

watch the youtube 3D channel (what? you never even heard of it?)

Another proof that you're horribly mad, and 3D movies/videos in phones are shit.

Play 3D games, hey your 3DS can now join your iPod :)

A game that'll burn my eye before I finish it .. I would love to waste my money on that !

Like I said, many owners of phones that were "the dogs bollocks" last week are truly upset when they suddenly see this new technology and realise those bollocks have just been kicked very hard. It's OK, some people still have betamax VCR's

Lol wtf ? I don't have any phone right now so don't even mention a contract ROFL, yeah that's right i'm staying at the forum with no phone .. probably cause I plan on getting one in the near future which ISN'T gonna be a 3D phone .. Can't afford it ? Nah, not available in my country ? Nah .. it's just cause I think it's a waste of my time .. USELESS

"a waste of time and a gimmick" ?? So next year HTC's adverts will say "quietly brilliant at wasting everyones time with our new gimmick phone" ? I don't think so :D

HTC's phone (and future ones) will suck as well .. it's not about LG. Even if Sony Ericsson (which is my favorite phone brand of all time) released a 3D phone I will consider it shit and criticize it

Mad ?

Good example of using the 3d gimmick to sell a crap product....The 3d was amazing. the movie wasn't that good and the story was a repackaged version of pochahantas(sp?) So after the wow factor wears off what are you left with?

@ Nex_1

Thanks for pointing out my spelling mistake, I've altered it :)

And thanks for classing me as a "teenager", although I'm not a Lady Gaga fan and I'll be 57 in October :D

If you take a chill pill and read my OP again, I suggested you TRY it and that its CHEAP. NOT that you have to buy it and its expensive.

Its advice, which is free and you can ignore it.

I hope Sony will forgive you and still let you be their number one "fan boy" when they release their shitty 3D phone next year :p

It's amazing that LG, Samsung, HTC etc. are stupid enough to think these shitty phones will sell, :D Isn't that what Steve Jobs and Bill Gates said about Android?

The thing for me is that 3D wouldn't be apart of my selection criteria when looking for a new phone, it's just a bonus. This means if you give me two phones with identical specs, both at the same price except one offers 3D sure I'd go with the 3D one because I have no other reason not to. However if I'm having to pay more just for 3D I'm not going to buy it because I'll know I won't really use it that often and when I do it'll just be because I'm bored and want to amuse myself.

Some people like 3D. Some people don't.
Some people like 4G. Some people don't.
Some people like SAMOLED. Some people don't.

See the pattern there?

Let's not get sucked into a flame war about 3D please. The point's been made: you might be pleasantly surprised if you haven't tried it. Or it might hurt your eyes or give you a headache.

BTW, I absolutely hate celery. Last thing I would want is someone explaining how awesome it is and how I'm missing out because I don't eat it.

But I love my Evo 3D. And I don't care to convert anyone. 3D is just another feature. Evo 4G was $200 subsidized. Evo 3D is $200 subsidized. So to me, that means I'm getting the 3D for free, along with the other hardware upgrades from the previous phone. Good deal for me. Useless feature for others.

Honestly, I'd go the other way. I'd go with the one without 3D as it's just one more thing that can break and I will literally never ever use it. I don't need a feature that not only will I never use, but also if I use it it'll give me a massive headache in about 10 minutes.

Personally, I really think the whole 3D thing is a big, gigantic gimmick/fad that will fade away in a couple of years. Maybe I'm wrong. Wouldn't be the first time.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the 3D tech they use in phones just another layer added to the layers that make up the screen to create the stereoscopic effect? Then the phone just needs some software to make use of it. The same chances of that breaking is the same chances your screen will break right now.

I don't see it as a revolution, I just see it becoming another adjustment. One day you'll be able to buy any screen and go through the settings, and there'll be brightness, contrast etc... and 3D. Have it on or turn it off, it's your choice but at least the option is there. If that's the way it's headed I don't see any harm in that.

You'll be able to get screen protectors that can produce the stereoscopic effect soon anyway, so no need to upgrade a phone just for 3D.

IMO 3D on phones is a gimmick. I have to note that the OP (over the course of half a dozen posts) completely fails to come up with a single reason as to why it's actually *useful*, other than it's 'cool'. The fact that world class tool and preening tosser jason bradbury thinks it's great is just the icing on the cake as far as i'm concerned.

That's not to say it wont be massively successful. There's no shortage of people in the world that can't live without the latest gimmick. Shrug.

You may be right. It's still one more thing that's I'm going to have to screw with turning off and it'll get turned on somewhere down the road and I'll have to figure out how to turn it off again.

I really do think 3D is just a gimmick and I'm not convinced consumers are buying it. I don't see people mobbing the stores to buy 3D TVs or any other 3D device. There is a certain segment of the population who can't see it, another segment who can see it but it gives them headaches and a certain segment of the population who is completely ambivalent to the whole thing.

As I've said before, I don't see what 3D brings to the game value wise. A better camera lets you take better pics. Now you don't need the DSLR any more. A faster processor gives you better performance. 4G gives you faster speeds (although I think that's overhyped as well, but that's another thread). I don't see what value 3D brings to a phone other than being "cool."

After owning my Evo 3D for a few weeks, I have to say, I wish there were more 3D content to enjoy. Currently, I'm playing NOVA 3D and it's just a blast with the 3D effect. Hard as hell to control a FPS on a 4.3 inch touch screen, but the 3D definitely adds to the gaming experience, for me. I am anxiously awaiting other good games with similar depth/3D added.

I just bought a 3D plasma TV but it wasn't because it was 3D. It didn't ship with any glasses and I really don't intend to get any. It was all the other specs that got me to buy it.

Unless the OP can post some real, supporting arguments this thread doesn't help the 3D cause. Tell me why rather than blindly promoting the latest whistle or bell.
