Help Email not updating

Have you tried download the Yahoo app from the market to see if that works better ??

I still have the issue. It appears to only be my Yahoo accounts. I am a little confused as to why the fetch function would be any different when on a schedule VS manually fetching email. I'll report to Yahoo and see where it goes.

Ok so changing the fetch times never worked for me and I still would only get emails (3 accounts) updated when I would go into the default email program.

Then I tried something....Sorry if someone already mentioned this fix but mine is working perfectly now! All accounts are updating at the fetch times (15 min) I have scheduled now...

Default mail app --> Menu --> More --> Settings --> Select account (if applicable) --> General Settings --> Unselect "Refresh on open"

Repeat for each account.

It seems that the "Refresh on open" option is not an and setting but an or setting. Meaning it will only update mail when you open the app if this setting is selected. If it is unselected, it will revert to your updating schedule.

I've tested this on 3 different accounts through two rounds of tests for each and they are all working at my 15 min fetch set up. :)

Update: Worked for a day and a half then stopped again...

Please report back in a few days. When I made changes to mine it would work for a day or two then quit again. I have since returned my evo and gone back to my old iphone. I am still looking to make the change once Yahoo accounts work reliably with the default mail app.

Will do. So far roughly 12 hours later it is updating mail every 15 minutes. I just did another test on all 3 accounts (2 yahoo, 1 gmail).

For an added measure I did a restart before the last test to see if everything came back together setting wise. It seems to have fixed my problem. I will report back later tonight and then at the 48 hour mark.

Well, day 1 of that "fix" proved to be a false positive of sorts. :(

After I unchecked that "refresh on open" setting I was getting all 3 accounts updating at their 15 minute intervals. This went on for roughly 18 hours then I noticed at work tonight that they were not updating again.

The only variable I can think of is that I use wifi at home and when I go out I switch to 3G. The weird thing is that when I checked that option on all of them, let it sit for a while then unchecked it again, it started updating.

I'm thinking that there is something causing it to stop updating after a while and when you fiddle with the settings it works again. I am back on wifi and will see how tonight goes.

Any takers on why this would be happening? I couldn't imagine it being a hardware issue.

If the problem persists I will be sending HTC a detailed account and see what they have to say. They expressed great customer support during the Yahoo mail issue.

Sorry for the potential false hope.

if its just yahoo only accounts then its a yahoo issue. this has been documented in another thread.

no its not hardware related. if you can get any type of data service on 3G (sprint tv, surf the web, etc etc) then your data connection is solid.

i have several accounts.. 3 yahoo emails and 4 personal domain emails AND exchange on the 3D and the xoom tablet. never had any issues with either of those on the xoom and just had some issue with yahoo on the 3D.. again as it was discussed in the yahoo thread. i have a hiccup into the second week of the 3d's life. so i removed them.. went to the android app (which is a great app its just a memory/resource hog) and then back to the native app and they have been solid since...

some like me have had successful yahoo accounts on the 3D and some not.. i think it may be the way each individual user has their account set up... thats the only difference in regards to all other things...

setting up a brand new virgin yahoo account to test would be a great idea here...

I did have the yahoo mail problem early on but I think they fixed that or something because it started working again. I was not working for only 3 days if I remember correctly.

I just deleted each account and did a restart. I will add them back in and see if that helps. I will be contacting HTC here soon if they continue to give me problems. Thanks for your insight!

Hotmail and Yahoo have been caught making constant server changes, breaking everyone's pop and imap access, sweeping the problem under the run and hoping that people will complain elsewhere.

This is Android wide, mobile wide actually. The HTCs get the first complaint because the default server starts with "htc.XXXX" - making it look the HTC dedicated server path is hosed and it's HTC's fault.

Remove the htc. prefix from your mail server paths (in and out) and when it fails again in a day or two, you'll see this isn't a problem with HTC nor our phone in particular.

Changing things fixes nothing - it simply appears to because you've talked their servers into briefly recognizing you. As will happen if you wait.

An effective workaround is posted in the Yahoo thread showing how to route thru Yahoo's Asia servers and that seems to work.

Hotmail is a losing battle without a known workaround. If you have that working, know that it's not if, it's when, you will face this problem.

Staff recently consolidated some 50 or 60 threads from phone forums into one main one in Applications.

We left our private thread here, despite site policy, because we were at launch and it was too easy for newcomers to perceive this as a launch issue.

Title of the thread says it all -

I am having the same issue and all three of my accounts have the same peak times and settings and only my very first e-mail account I setup (Hotmail) works correctly.

Unchecking the refresh at open did not work for me also. I know you guys keep bringing up the Yahoo and now Hotmail problems but I have a Gmail account and Exchange Account that do not update when told. My Hotmail account is the only one that does update correctly.

Sorry about that - for my part, I was unclear as to which account types were at issue for you.

Let's please start with gmail - which app? HTC Mail or Gmail? If Mail, when you set it up did you let it default to the server settings (correct way) and have your checked your polling frequency and download options?

(I did see the statement about polling in your first quote above, but let's please verify and start with a clean page for your issues, thanks.)

I am using the HTC Mail app. I let them pick their own server settings.

Hotmail: Peak 7 AM - 8 PM, Everyday, Every 30 Minutes
Gmail: 7 AM - 8 PM, Everyday, Every 30 Minutes
Exchange: 7 AM - 8 PM, Mon - Fri, Every 30 Minutes

Setup in the order I gave them and only the Hotmail account seems to work. They all of course work when I go in the app and hit refresh.

Shout out to Don B - I'm back!!!

I came to EVO 3D from a Rooted Hero first with CM6, then Gingerbread 2.3.3 and then 2.3.4. I had the same problem with my Hero only after I upgraded to Gingerbread. The accounts would update correctly for awhile and then only when I opened them. With my 3VO, I have 3 pop accts - one for work, one Comcast and one Hotmail (I use Gmail just for contacts and misc) My default account is the Comcast account and it works perfectly - follows the update times I have set. The other two accounts only pull when I open them (but they used to work perfectly as well). My suspicion is that is related to something in the Gingerbread platform vs anything else as that is when I first noticed it on my other phone. I do not have anything other than that tiny bit of evidence for my suspicion, but it seems valid. Anybody with a similiar take?
