Root Unstable Root (Help)

Okay I have rooted Samsung Galaxy Prevail. It is my first and only android phone. I love playing around with this type of stuff so I have to accept the risk of what screwing things up.

So anyhow I was trying to figure out how I can save space on the phone. I came acrossed the site below.

Android tips

I installed terminal emulator on my android.

I did the following from the site.

Code:
  cd /data/data/com.android.vending rm -R cache mkdir /sdcard/cache/market ln -s /sdcard/cache/market cache
And the following.

Code:
cd /data/dalvik-cache
rm *
Then powered off the phone. As the phone was powering off I saw a message saying something about system.

When I started the phone back up I swore I bricked my phone. After sticking a paper clip in the reset hole, removing the battery, holding down the power button without the battery in it. I started to prepair to try my best to unbrick it. After several hours I was ready to attempt to unbrick it and then I got a phone call. So I don't think the phone got bricked.

The phone however isn't running as I expect it to. The screen timeout doesn't work any more. When I turn the phone off and on again which I rarely do to begin with, my widgets don't load and I have to reset them. each time. The only way I can get into the system after I start the phone is to receive a phone call. Apps that used to auto start don't auto start any more.

Any advise on how I can fix some of these things would be great. Keep in mind I don't have much access to Windows computers. And the best I could do is use my friends Windows XP computer.

I rooted my phone. then I followed the instructions on the following site.

Android tips

I appear to be having some issues now. I was hoping someone might be able to help me.

Issues discovered.
Phone Appears to be bricked until someone calls.
Widgets wont load when phone starts.
Apps that start up when my phone turns on don't startup until I open them. Example: Lookout

Could someone please help me get my phone working a little better.
