I've wanted to go to CM7 but have always gotten freaked out when I start reading the intro (the stuff about some times it won't work, some things will come and go). Is it safe to say that this far in, I won't experiance these issues? Also, when I go the DL page there are the nightly's and stable. Am I missing out by going to the last stable as opposed to the nightly?
So the reason why those disclaimers are there is so that you understand the risks you run flashing roms, in this case cyanogenmod. When cyanogenmod first rolled out to our device there existed many more bugs and things not working than now; that is just how it is. At this point you have two popular options.
First is that you can simply flash the latest stable mod and enjoy your brand new device; enjoy it as if it is the only cyanogenmod you'll flash/use. This is a great option for someone who wants to try it out and will most likely stay on cyanogenmod as is.
The second option is my favorite: I flashed nightly 30 or something like that months ago. Every night I check to see if an updated build has posted, flash the update and enjoy whatever bugs have been fixed and new features that may come from the newest build. This option is more intensive in that you must be proactive about making backups, must reflash a custom kernel if you use one, change your boot animation if you like that sort of thing, and most importantly, be accepting of bugs, glitches, and general imperfections.
With that all said, I must admit that I have never been a more pleased android user than I am now. I got through the growing pains of learning this device, the pros and cons of various roms, and how to be super diligent in my methodology when modifying my device.
Cyanogenmod has never been as stable and bug free as it is right now. I would even go a step further and say that nightly build 158 (the latest and greatest) is near perfect and trumps the current stable mod.
You are coming to cyanogenmod (if that is your choice) at a great time. Remember that whichever route you choose, be educated, follow instructions carefully, and reach out to the folks in the #dinc irc when you feel lost or don't understand something. Those guys always come through in the clutch. Oh...and always properly wipe.
