I currently have a POS Lg Optimus V, that is annoying the crap out of me.

I've been doing some research on various phones and this is what I am looking at.

1)Motorola Triumph

2)Samsung Galaxy S 4g(on T-mobile Pre-paid)

3)Sidekick 4g

4)Htc Trophy(Windows Phone 7)

I'd like to get the triumph simply because for 25 bucks a month...I can text all want too and I rarely use data as is and I have a dorm phone if i need to call someone and talk for long periods of time.

The only thing stopping me is

A)The Lukewarm, mixed reception of the device. It makes me nervous to buy this phone. Back in March, when I brought the LG Optimus V, I heard great things about this phone and I got it and initially it lived it up to the hype

But the triumph, be it reviews from owners on Best Buy or professionals reviews are mixed...Signal issues and Wifi strength. On Xda, I read people discussing the fact they are having battery issues.

Does anyone here regret their purchase?

B)Does anyone live in a rural area? I'm from a rural area of North Carolina -_-
and with my Optimus V, I am not sure if it is the phone or the app or Virgin Mobile but their seems to be obvious delays in my text messages.

When i send pictures to people, it seems to be a huge delay in the delivery of picture messages

and for some reason, I can not send pictures to my friend with an Iphone nor can they send a picture to me.

It's a tough decision, as I am paying anywhere from 300-500 bucks for these phones so i'd like to make sure I am making the right move.

Read any of the recent threads, dude. A lot of people here regret buying the Triumph and are insisting others to stick with the OV. I'm glad I didn't waste $300.00 on the thing.

If all you do is text and don't need data, why would you be interested in a 4g phone? The OV should be more than sufficient for you...

I'm going to exchange my Triumph today. Guess I'll have to boot it in store to find out if it's a 039? Can I tell if it's a 039 by the info under the battery?

Possibly but can't say for sure or what to look at. I live close so I just took it home and checked it there and it was 039. Anything now should be 039 at this point but you can always exchange it.

It's in the about phone section in the phone, so you would have had to already buy it, just ask if they had a new shipment, all the new shipments should be 039's, don't take anything thats been collecting dust.

I guess I just want to make sure this is phone is worth it, and it sounds like it is not....

It frustrates me because I want to stay with VM for the 25 dollar a month a plan...and I guess I'll have to drop

400-500 for a T-mobile phone PLUS 50 bucks for the plan....

I just dont know what i want
1)HTC SENSATIOn
2)HTC HD7
3)Sidekick 4g
4)Samsung Galaxy S 4g

Then again, i wonder if i get the triumph and deal with it's issues...would VM/Motorola be improving it?

The optimus had 50% TWOTS out of the box that destroyed the battery life, it has a plastic screen, and garbage for internal storage space. Go read the threads when that device first launched, people complainaed about it too. The truth is that people think that any new smartphone that isn;t perfect is a terrible device.

The unknown question is whether or not the Triumph's issues are HW or SW based. If they are SW based, a custom ROM can fix those flaws (just like it did with the Optimus)

The optimus started out horrible, the first batch turned out like shit, just like the 038 triumphs, the 039s are much better trust me.

I purchased the first batch of V's and had zero issues with phone the radios all worked great,no fixes, multiple returns needed, rooting and installing a custom Rom further improved storage space and responsiveness

I've had issues and returned a good bunch to finally get one I'm happy with. For $210 and the $25 plan I'm happy with it. I have noticed that some areas do get better coverage then others, if that is an issue for you I would just buy it and test it out and if you hate it just return it within 30 days. Also remember, only when people have issues do they start to complain about it but that doesn't always represent actual defective rates as we all know if it's working right people aren't going to bother saying anything about it.

I love my Triumph and I'm glad that I bought it. It's like night and day compared to my tiny OV.

I too live out in the country (don't have actual high speed we use Virgin Mobiles MIFI) and my signal reception is as good as my OV ever was.

I will say sometimes the 3G goes kinda funky, but a quick reset and it's back to normal. You said you don't use data that much so I doubt it will ever be a problem.

As far as text messages I never have a problem getting or sending mine. Not to sure about picture messages because not many of my friends send them.

Hope this helped. Most people who come to these forums only come to complain so this will be skewed. Just thought I'd give my 2c from someone who enjoys their phone.

I used the Navigation app for the first time yesterday. Although it did not take me the same way Google maps would have, it worked fine. For me it is so much better than the V due to volume. I could never hear the directions on my V. The larger screen also enables me to use Swype for a keyboard. As for the V, I do like the price and the way it feels in my hand.

idk whats up with people having problems with the MT i got it a week after launch.
i have yet to come to any problems that other MT owners have.
im on 038 and it works perfectly.
sometimez the signal is low but my texts go through my pics get through beautifully compared to the intercept!
i say the MT waS worth every penny.

I hope you got a good one, micahdiablo. I got a good one the first time out. It's been three weeks and I haven't had a problem with it yet. If it turns out you got a lemon (and they ARE out there) just return it an get another one. Most people who returned them for another one have gotten a good one, although some have had multiple times of getting a bad MT. Probably a bad batch sent to the store.
I'm really happy with mine. Texting has gone well as well as no dropped calls. My biggest complaint is the antennae which isn't as strong and drops my 3G at my house. But my Optimus V didn't do much better.
Good luck with it.

With regards to the 038 and 039 issue. I have the 038 and it's working just fine overall. Is there a download somewhere for the 039?

And out of curiosity, what PRL does the 039 come with? It's listed in the Settings, About phone, Status - PRL Version.

I updated my PRL last night to 01115 per the suggestion from several threads, although I see there is also a 01119 and a 01120.

I'm also wondering about the Signal strength. Mine is at -63 dBm 0 asu. I understand this to be low in comparison.

Thanks all!
