Root Help with ROMs!

I have been lurking around this forum since I got my X 8 months ago, but I just now joined in a moment of desperation and frustration....

My Fiance has the Samsung Fascinate that is bone stock, official Android 2.2.2, and hates the bugs and glitches that she is encountering. Having rooted and ROM'd my X multiple times (I've run RubiX, Apex, CM7, DarkSlide, currently on MIUI) I decided I'd undertake hers....

Is there a step by step guide anywhere on how exactly to install a ROM over the official 2.2.2? I have it rooted, then late last night discovered that all the info I had been reading was not related to flashing over Froyo, and that i cannot boot into recovery to flash a zip from the SD card. Is there any way to boot into recovery on 2.2.2? When I try I only get the option to:

-reboot device now
-apply update.zip
-wipe data/factory reset
-wipe cache

I reeeeeeeeeeeeally want that install zip from SD card option haha. Do I have to roll back to 2.1? If so, how do I do that?

EDIT: I have searched and searched and can't find a comprehensive how to... if there is one can you post it here?

It is the same. Once you odin the CWM immediately do the 3 finger boot and then you will be in recovery. I am partial to the CM7, so once you odin CWM you can install CM7, but once you install that you cannot use 3 fingers to get into recovery anymore, you have to access it from the reboot menu.

Ok, CM7 is going to require a kernel flash, correct?

Im sure I sound like a n00b, but I have the X that you can't change the kernel on.... This kernel stuff is over my head haha

Not perrysburg anymore, in Toledo now. and yes CM7 will install a kernel when you install the rom. Once you install CM7 though the 3 finger restart will not open the right recovery you will only be able to get into it from reboot options by hitting the power button. I recommend the glitch kernel.

Hi there, ok...I have spent all day trying to download, flash, etc. I made the first mistake today and used odin to flash 2.3.3 but thought I had the 1900 but have the Fascinate sch-1500. Now when I turn the phone on I get the flash screen Galaxy S I1900 and it doesn't do anything else. I am able to get my phone into download mode but I followed the steps to reflash my rom with the correct software and odin starts then shuts down. So...my delima here is what can I do. I have tried several options. I still have the same issue. I apologize I need a clear step by step that I can understand. I am a newbie at this part of everything. I had successfully rooted by device and everything before I did all this. Also...just put this Fascinate together from two broken devices successfully. Thanks for your help in advance.

Success with much research I used SCH-I500_VZW_EC09_GINGERBREAD_DEBUG_REL.tar.md5 with Odin3 v1.85_intratech.zip, I used the Sch-I500 file with the PDA field, checked repartition and used atlas_v2.2.pit for the pit. Connected my device with the download screen, hit start and within 5 minutes my device was restored with 2.3.3 and works wonderfully well. In fact it is a lot faster and the battery life is incredible. I have had no problems, no force closes, no hiccups whatsoever. The only thing I need help with now is that I'm using this device data only on my wifi network. I'm not using it as a cell for the moment. I want to remove all the Verizon Wireless apps but when I try to delete or uninstall they won't. If anyone has an idea of how to get these off my phone I would appreciate the help. Thanks to everyone who posted solutions on all the many android forums on the net. It was a lot of reading and time but I'm happy.

Can you please let me know that from where I can get SCH-I500_VZW_EC09_GINGERBREAD_DEBUG_REL.tar.md5 file??? I could not find this file anywhere on internet... Also,Is there any way to Intstall 2.2 back on Verizon samsung fascinate??
