Thank you, interdpth ShabbyPenguin, Hroark13, Zepplinrox, Koushik Dutta, and New Optimus just to name a few

I just wanted to say thanks to the devs, modders, and senior members who have made it possible for me to read these forums and learn so much and use their advice to make my prevail do so much more than it comes stock.
As of now, I’m running:
Custom boot animations and sounds
Clockworkmod recovery
Shabby’s latest kernel
Shabbymod .9
V6 SuperCharger
KickAssKernel
3GTurbocharger
Partitioned 16GB class 10 SDCard 32mb swap/ 256mb ext3 for apps (link2sd)/ fat32 for media
Wireless Tether
Adobe flash player 10.1
And NetFlix
I’ve also learned how to root my phone, A LOT about ADB commands and how to push apps to the ROM partition and I’m beginning to learn how to theme.
I’ve never even owned an android before but I’m not a complete noob. I have been working with linux for about 12 years. Particularly, debian, and ubuntu. I have heard that Android was linux based but, once I actually got one I was able to see that it is basically linux through and through with only slight differences assuming, because of the mobile platform. Right then I knew that I didn’t have to live with what came in the box and thanks to you all, I can actually do most things that the much more feature rich androids can do with my little stripped down Samsung Prevail on a prepaid service. Honestly, Boost is one of the best moves I’ve made in a while. Also, I’d like to say that this is one of the best communities I’ve ever seen. I find that most are not full of ego but are full of knowledge and experience and have a genuine want to help. I am proud to be a part of just such a community and will be looking to help with my experience as well.
Again Thank you all!

How did you get the custom with sound? Have any linksd. And how well does your flash plays. On what browser

Sound:
I downloaded some notification sounds (interet and zedge)
Converted them to wav format
Put them on the sdcard
Used my root file explorer to rename it to PowerOn_standard.snd (has to be exactly this name and is case sensitive)
Moved it to /system/etc and replaced the old one

Flash plays fine. Havent been to a site yet that it didnt work. (stock browser)

Linksd?

thanks for the thanks

just an FYI, if interdpth had not given us root none of this stuff would be possible, I am sure someone else would have given us root eventually, but
interdpth did it, and deserves our gratitude

I am glad that you are learning a lot, we need people with strong Linux skills to help out. I have very weak Linux skills, I am more of an MS Windows guy, but I am learning.

We especially need people who are experienced in compiling Linux kernels, and troubleshooting why kernels will not boot, once we are able to compile a bootable kernel, we should be able to get Gingerbread or Cyanogen

I do have some pretty good linux skills but im not strong in kernels. I have a very close friend who is software engineer for linux in a big corperation and i've already asked him to help. He said he could use a pet project so, he's totaly willing. This guy is bad ass. I just sent him the source code yesterday so he can study it. I know you guys have been having hell trying to get this compiled so this just might be our answer. Im gonna get him to join the forum so we all can converse with him. Im certain this guy can do it...

I would love for us to have gingerbread or cyanogen.

Thanks for the f.y.i I did know about interdpth giving us root. I just forgot to add his name to the list. I did edit my post.

I'm gonna try stock. Cause I get sound no picture. And could you send a zip of your boot with sound

Make sure you read all the instructions good before you try anything like this on your phone. Bricks can be hell sometimes.

I dont have an animation with sound...

i loaded a custom sound and loaded a seprate boot animation. it actually takes place at two different times.
the boot sound loads with the Boost Logo
the boot animation is the second Samsung logo before your home screen
so I dont even know if it is possible to have them load at the same time. I could be wrong though. just havent been that into it. learned how to do it, loaded it, and left it alone.

as far as boot animations.... there are apps for loading custom anis just download one and do it.

I guess if I have time I could make some and put em on here for people to try.

you have to rename the stock sound to move it out the way. the system looks for the PowerOn_standard.snd name when booting so with the old one i just renamed it PowerOn_standardold.snd (alittle trick i learned in one of these threads) just so i didnt loose it.
Also, it has to be uncompressed sound. MP3 M4a ect. wont work. that is why i used wav format

You had better luck with wav then I did, I took a 15 second clip of one of my mp3 ringtones and converted it to wav and then tried renaming it to the poweron sound.snd and I got a .89 second squeak. just like I did when I tried to use the compressed mp3. lol
I have heard of people adding wav audio to the bootanimation.zip and getting sound and video boot but I didnt not try. I am not too worried about it as you probably can tell. :D
