Help serious touch screen glitch

I've been having some issues with the touchscreen on my Motorola Triumph. I'm not sure if this has been getting worse, or if I'm just getting more irritated by it, but my Triumph has been registering a lot of inaccurate keystrokes. Not just like, I go for 'J' and get 'H' instead, but full out "my phone is mashing keys at random" sometimes. I'll be scrolling through the drawer, and suddenly it starts shaking, ignoring my input, sometimes switching to other menus entirely.

I did remove the factory screen protector pretty early, so I was thinking maybe the oils from my skin are causing misfires in the capacitive screen? But I'm beginning to suspect it's a software glitch. Anybody else having similar problems?

Using ADWLauncher EX, in case that matters.

I get(used too?) that keyboard glitch sometimes, but i think mines is worse. Is your software version 38 or 39? Maybe try reloading software, flash a ROM. I use my own ROM, Princely ROM.

Hey Austrie, I'm trying to install Princely, but I'm stuck on "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery". It asks me to "Confirm Phone Model" and the Triumph isn't on the list. Am I missing something?

Do not flash it with rom manager! Put the phone in download mode(hold volume down button + power) while powering up. Plug the phone into your computer and copy the recovery into that folder. Make sure you back up your original recovery first though.

I have the same problem. When I unlock, I can use my touchscreen for a few seconds before it becomes unresponsive. If I lock and unlock it starts working again. I tried flashing a ROM over the standard and removing the factory screen protector.

I'm going to reach out to Virgin to see if they'll recommend anything or replace the phone, but we'll see.

I get this problem occasionally, as well. In my experience from using a good amount of touch screen devices, is just that the touch screen on the Triumph isn't the best. On cheaper phones such as the Triumph, the touch screen just isn't as good, and is more prone to registering touches in odd places, not registering touches when it should, and other similar problems.

You can test out the quirks of the touchscreen by downloading a touchscreen tester app from the Market that shows the raw points that the touchscreen is outputting. On this app, try typing quickly with both your thumbs as you would on the virtual keyboard and you often get a tap that slides from one thumb to the next, even though they were clearly different taps. I believe this is due to some smoothing algorithm that is implemented to try to make up for the deficiencies of the cheap touch screen.
