Hide video's/pictures

question here is: what do you want in more details? Just hide from the pictures apps of your phone? Watch it temporarily and hide again? or do you want to make sure NOBODY can watch/read your files.
there are plenty of hiding apps in the market.most of them only change the extension and/or the directory. the solution with the . (dot) at the beginning makes this data only for unrooted phones unreadable. if you are rooted you can access those directories with tools.
Finally I think the safest but of course a little bothering solution is encryption.
If you do it file by file (with any encryption tool like PGP or so) then it is quite bothering to watch them, also be aware that all deleted files can easily be restored as long as they are not overwritten.
I prefer the solution someone above already made: encrypt the whole folder and run it as virtual folder or drive.
I am trying at the moment to get TRUECRYPT, which is a PC windows/linux/mac application, ported to ANDROID. Need some time for this.

I'm looking forward for your TrueCrypt app :) . Android needs apps with reliable and fast encryption and an easy UI.

A little add to your post: Folders with a . (dot) in front of are readable on a unrooted phone with most of file managers. They are only invisible for some media players (and all stock media players) ;)

The . makes it hidden so that when you let someone check out your device they can't see the hidden files just by looking.
Yes, you can get around the leading . if you know what you're doing.

Why would you allow anyone to have access to your device with your personal data and give them the time to work around it?

Thanks for all that info I actually found a couple apps I can use in the marketplace, only reason why I wanted an alternative to Pandora once u hide ur pics/vids and remove/reinstall Pandora for whateva reason the file extension will still b there but it will not show in the app. You will need to delete the extension and start the whole process again.

maybe one did misunderstand my statement regarding the . (dot) in order to hiding files.
of course you're all right with what you're saying. I only meant, if you talk about security (not just hide the files for your nosy girlfriend) then only real encryption is safe. And even the best way is IMHO not decrypt the files to your drive but keep them in an encrypted virtual folder or drive. This prevents you from somebody restoring your files once you've just deleted them. The apps available at the moment in the market DO NOT cover that. Even the apps, which support OPEN PGP have a big flaw. Once you have decrypted your files and moved them or deleted them, they can easily be restored by any prof. Those apps even do not have a WIPE option, which would allow to overwrite several times your files to prevent them from restoring.
However, I am starting my TRUECRYPT project now, may take 2 months to get it ported to a usable BETA version, as I do not have too much free time.

one more remark: the apps for PGP support in the market do have a very very simple procedure for choosing the primes (or supposed primes) they don't use enough random data. So, if you use those apps for encrypting or decrypting it is fine, but DO NOT use them for key generation. DO this in your PC with (GNU)OPEN PGP or with the original PGP. then you can copy your public and your private key to your Android.
The Email encryption works fine with K9 mail ( if you like that client).
