Root Time for a rom change ..... your thoughts

Been using LeeDroid roms for around a year now. Still on the last FroYo build as it works nicely for me.

I'm using less and less of Sense though - flashed the rom without widgets, launcher and lockscreen and using apps to replace them. GO Launcher, Widgetlocker etc.

So I feel the need for a new rom. Top criteria are :

- Stable
- Fast (or at least no slower)
- Easy on the battery (I charge every night but if I use the phone a lot I need another top-up during the day. I want to stop that)
- Uses A2SD+ (I'm set in my ways and despite being S-OFF I'm not really up for changing partition sizes as I may want to change back)

Would also prefer something nice and easy to flash - all in one zip with themes coming later if you want.

What do people think should be my next step? Was thinking of maybe GingerVillain - must be pretty stable by now?

hi
I'm using Miui xj and love it. works great no issues at all.
but think it sounds to heavy for you maybe?

only issue I have with it is that battery life doesn't seem much
better than stock.....but then I never leave it alone! :-D

btw. I'm actually using Go launcher and Widget locker on top.
does that mean I would be better using a lighter rom like Redux?

cheers

ah ok. that's better then :)

does it have notification pull down bar? or was that what you meant it
didn't have. I like the fact that with Go launcher you can gesture pull down
the bar.I wouldn't want to lose that.

am I correct in assuming that if you have rom without launcher that it is lighter?

ok that's good then for notifications :)

ah right. sorry. thought it was said that some lighter roms didn't have launchers.
so are good if you use 3rd party ones.

btw. while we are chatting ;-) is there a good app for managing ram use?
I'm usually running at say 160 isn't ram but then sometimes it drops to like
90! but I've no idea what is using it :-\

I've been using Gingervillain as it just seemed right for me but like the sound of Redux now, would I be right in thinking I have to re-partition my card in a slightly different way and also flash apps_dalvik2ext as if so I'm not sure I can put myself through that all again! Although it sounds like the benefits of Redux are very good.

It just uses a standard partition. How are you partitioned?

ok cool thanks. pretty much what I would expect in that list.
oddly it says there is 187mb free but my widget says 100 :-\

Trust android more than a widget.

sorry just want to double check a couple of things. I flash the redux ROM as per any usual ROM, then to flash the dalvik zip do you just go back in to recovery and just flash the dalvik zip like a rom zip but don't do any wipe?
Yes

Also is using Redux 2 ok or should I just stick with 1.2 as it's stable?

Apparantly 2 is quite stable, though people are reporting errors in the XDA thread. I'm still on 1.2 and perfectly happy with it.
