Root Big Difference in Data Speeds

Instead of editing the file you can just go into the testing menu and change it.

Go to dialer and type:
*#*#INFO#*#*
Click "phone information"
Scroll down to "set preferred network type"
Choose EvDo only

I tried swapping my PRL, but failed because I got some errors on my computer. I also tried adding the line within the build.prop, but it didn't do anything. So I tried your suggestion and it worked perfectly. I ran multiple Speed Tests after changing it and my speeds more than doubled and I could stream HQ movies without stopping. Thanks for the help!

caution on making this change.... while it seems like 3g works better/faster with this change, i've noticed my phone DOES NOT receive phone calls NOR does it receive text messages.

*if you're the one calling, all you hear is ringing. go ahead and do a test after you make this change. see if you can still receive phone calls and texts.

when i put it back to 'CDMA auto (PRL)' then a reboot, it started receiving my missed text msgs.

*btw, i have the build.prop edit before and after this change.

ugh i just made a topic on not being able to make and recieve calls, didnt know u already posted :/ but maybe someone can shine some light on this cuz i would think with how i tested it that its pretty common problem but i dont see alot of ppl complaining unless they just dont make alot of phone calls and dont notice or i got a buggy phone or prl file but i used 3 different ones and versions and all make my phone not to be able to recieve or make calls but 3g works good and i still get a better signal on phone..

So does anyone know why this happens cuz cm7 uses 0115 prl if i saw right so if thats gonna be the standard wouldnt that be a issue since after so long it dips out, my calls stopped working in as little as 5 mins so would like to know is this normal or just some phones have this issue?

I stream on my half hour drive in and back from work daily.... I didn't notice a difference... I'm sorry..... It may just be my area.

:) I changed my prl tonight to 60680 and left the notation in the build.prop file...

UPDATED****
8/18-- I've been testing out the new prl (60680) pretty heavily. My usual dead spots have been virtually non-existant (if not gone) with this prl and the build.prop edit. No speed tests have been done-- my testing is streaming-- I know where it doesn't usually work, where it's a dead area, and where it's decent. I'm a happy camper.

I'm located in SE Florida if that makes a difference to whomever is down here!

Is this still working for you? Can you post this prl?

And on a side note, how do you know what PRL is loaded on your phone via QPST? I cant seem to figure that out

just updated to 60681 and I swear the PRL has SOMETHING to do with GPS, everytime I update, it seems to get a little better. This time it locked within 5-8 seconds, check this out this time:

Thanks for posting this. I tried visiting the link below but it doesn't seem to work anymore. I also tried an alternative method to get the MSL, using aLogCat, filtering for sec_code, and dialing ##33284#, but that didn't work for me either. Could be due to the fact that my phone is rooted and has CM7 on it. Is there another way to get the MSL?

I had restore a backup of a stock rom for that to work. After i got it, I just restored back to cm7.

Yeah, that's what I figured. Doing a bit of Googling, I found that CM7 doesn't easily allow updating the PRL. Thankfully, I did a Nandroid backup right before flashing CM7.

So I got my MSL, and flashed back to CM7, but now I'm trying the AnyCut method to determine the COM port in the DM. I'm unable to find the "Select COM Port Mode" in Activity. Is it maybe located somewhere else?

**EDIT**
Okay, I was a bit confused a few hours ago but now it all makes sense. The AnyCut method allows you to enable the diagnostic port, which allows it to be seen in QPST. But for those of you trying this on CM7, Diagnostic port is already enabled, so no need to do anything with AnyCut. So once you connect the phone to the computer, look in the Device Manager to see what port the "Diagnostics over Android" is on (for me, it's COM4). Then open up QPST and connect to this port.

Another issue that I was having was that my drivers were not installed properly when I plugged the phone into my computer. Not sure what the issue was, but I am using 32-bit Windows 7. I was able to find the drivers here, and they work perfectly. Just wanted to mention it in case any of you run into the same issue.

NOW...for my latest issue (I can't remember when I've encountered as many issues as this when trying to hack something :S). When I try to load the PRL in QPST, I noticed that the "Preferred Roaming Enable" checkbox is greyed out. I tried writing the PRL to the phone anyway, but no luck...it still shows the old PRL version in my phone. Any suggestions on how to get around this?
