Hi everyone,

I have bought a brand new HTC Wildfire S. I am trying to sync my contacts and calendar etc into this phone but it just doesn't work.

I have installed HTC Sync on my laptop running Windows 7 Ultimate.

When I connect the phone, and select the connection as HTC Sync, it finds the HTC Sync on my laptop, but then a button saying "sync now" just appears on the phone. I don't get a "device setup screen" or a "device panel", so I can't choose what I want it to sync, it's just blank.

I have trawled through the help guide online to find out how to set up the sync so I can sync my contacts etc and it says this:

1. Connect HTC Wildfire S to your computer using the USB cable that came in the
box.
2. When HTC Wildfire S prompts you to choose a type of USB connection, tap
HTC Sync, and then tap Done. Wait for HTC Sync to recognize HTC Wildfire S.
3. On the Device setup screen, enter a name for HTC Wildfire S.
4. Click Save. The Device panel then opens.

I connect the phone, yes it comes up with the choice of USB connections. I choose HTC Sync, and then Done. It displays the USB debugging, very good, but then a blank screen with "status - connected" and the "sync now" button appears.

I DON'T GET A "DEVICE SETUP SCREEN" ON WHICH TO ENTER A NAME AND A "DEVICE PANEL" DOES NOT OPEN.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled a gazillion times. I have downloaded the latest version from the HTC support website, all with the same result - I do not get a "device setup screen" or a "device panel".

I emailed HTC support, they replied telling me to uninstall, reinstall and reboot. They are useless.

I am tearing my hair out and if I can't resolve this today, the phone is going back to the shop.

PLEASE can someone help me with this? Thanks in advance.

Thanks for that, I downloaded the software but that doesn't work either. I get this error msg:

Connection to phone could not be established:
SocketErrorr: 10061 - Connection is forcefully rejected

Time to give up and go back to my trustworthy "non-smart" phone (which at this point is a lot smarter than this piece of rubbish!).

I'm a brand-new Wildfire user and I also can't get HTC Sync to work. I followed the instructions, but my computer doesn't recognize the phone. Windows Explorer shows me a removable disk, but when I click "removable disk" it asks me to insert a disk in the drive. All I want to do is copy my photos on to my computer. I don't need to sync any contacts or anything.

Is USB Debugging enabled on the phone? Settings -> Applications -> Development.
