***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Hey everyone. I figured I post this question here since many of us are coming from the Incredible/OG Droid/other phones. It's not getting any responses in the incredible thread so since we have more eyes here I figured I'd ask:

I wanted to know where the picture of my wallpaper was located in my incredible? I've searched around and asked and it seems that it's saved to my SD card but it's definitely not because when I removed the SD card I still have my wallpaper on my home screen. Also, I downloaded the wallpaper through Zedge and I've long since uninstalled it but the wallpaper is still there! I'm glad it is because it's my favorite wall paper and I don't want to lose it. Can anyone point me to the folder or directory where it might be located? Since Zedge was used by many in the android community I'm pretty sure it's not a phone-specific problem. I'm thinking Zedge saves the wallpaper somewhere in the phone's memory but I can't find it when I connect the phone to my computer and search through it like another drive.

Thank you!

Jeep talk/Car talk
I had a 78 & 79 Wagoneer and 79 Cherokee Chief S. These were the bigger Grand Wagoneer body style, but before they started putting that tacky fake wood on the sides. They were beasts. Unfortunately, they also had this problem hose that would let go and blow tons of extremely hot air around your engine... if you were lucky, it'd melt some wires... if you had a small oil leak, like my first wagoneer, you'd have an engine fire. The two Cherokees were both post-fire rebuilds. The fires made it a little hard to find parts in junk yards, but the ability of those things to just power through unplowed parking lots with 3 feet of snow in them and just handle a little more boat-like... not even come close to getting stuck... was awesome.

After those, since I was moving lots of band equipment around, I drove a full size Chevy van for a couple of years. Then I wasn't in a band, anymore, and it seemed like a waste of gas, so I downsized to a Chevy Celebrity station wagon, followed by a Oldsmobile Cutlass Cruiser... basically the same vehicle with different body accents and trim levels. They were my first 6-cylinder vehicles, but they were mid-sized cars with lots of low-end torque, so they felt overpowered and fun to drive... and now my silly little Mazda.

Did someone say Jeep talk? :) Yes please.

I get my MIG Welder in 3 days, so I'll have a few days to play with it before the Gnex arrives.

I use it to place phone calls. I'm a teacher. I give my google voice number to my parents. If I ever call them back I use my google voice number that way they don't have my real cell number. This also gives me the ability to block them easily through the number. I also have a special greeting for them when they call.

I also coach 3 different basketball teams and am a youth pastor. I use Google Voice with all of them one way or the other. I use GVSMS to send group text messages using Google Voice. I also use Google Voice as my primary Home number for my bills. We no longer have a land line and I don't want to give out my cell.

It's free and easy to use. I LOVE Google Voice. :)

Awesome way to use it! I need to read up on it.

Does receiving calls on gv use minutes, or is that data? I assume calling out on it doesn't burn minutes?

Guys, I got a text from my sister:

Can you do a pre-order for an in-store pickup? E.g. reserve one at your local VZW retail store? Or is it 1) pre-order and wait for shipping or 2) get to the store when it opens?

When I got my Dinc, I pre-ordered it at Best Buy and picked it up on the release day. I may do that, as long as they can honor my additional $50 loyalty credit. I'm also curious about best buy's replacement/warranty policy? I've heard it's a much better deal than paying the absurd $11/mo to VZW for insurance. What is everyone's plan to insure/protect this phone? I for one don't want to shell out $700+ if I break/lose/etc the phone.

Some guy over at phonearena posted this

"My friend who is in upper management in Verizon just told me he got an update on the date Yesterday.... Says it is the 12th now, though this is the second time they have pushed the date they had told them back."

I realize it's just another he said she said but I noticed he posted this at 10:00 am when Engadget posted the Dec 11th leak that wasn't until 10:45.

12:12 on 12/12 anyone?

how many of us joked that this was an impossibility.

[insert foot in mouth]

Ninja'd multiple times on the link, but the description of the case says it was designed for the LTE GNex, so we should be in good shape. Now we just need a phone to put in it :D

edit: Also, the cardboard insert that came with the case says it's for the Galaxy Nexus SCH-i515 & GT-i9250.

Thanks to all who have graciously reposted the TPU case link. I guess that's one of the oddities of a monstrously large, rambling epic thread like this. The general social push is to post as much as possible, in an effort to get more pages, posts, views, thanks, etc. As such, no one seems to complain when something like the TPU case link gets posted multiple times--and it is actually helpful for some of us.

I just ordered the TPU case in smoke, but I suspect my phone won't have that cool, half-visible Google graphic on the back. I would gladly trade a Google and Samsung graphic for the VZW LTE graphics I am getting.

Zedge often makes its own folder. Or its in a download folder. Other than that I'm at a loss.
Or try astro file and search if you remember the name.

Smart use, giving it to the parents. I have a GV number separate from my phone number, and was using it when I was living in Vermont. They tended to look down on people with area codes outside of 802, so to assimilate I picked up an 802 number on GV.

I'm the disciplinarian in the home (with our two doggies). We never had an accident in the house after the first week or two. But we didn't get them at the same time. Must be much more difficult with two pups.

I took some vacation time and followed them like a hawk EVERYWHERE.

My wife is at home most of the time, she learned to recognize her signs that she needed to go. She tries the back door first, then the front door, sometimes whines a bit.

When she has an accident, it's usually me or the kids that are at fault for missing her trying to tell us her intentions.

Reminds me of Mad Eye Mooney in Harry Potter. "Constant vigilance!"

What are "Pre-order prompts"?

I have no idea. I assume it's like a trigger or something, to prompt the CSR to ask the customer if they want to upgrade to the SGN or something.

I sent her back a text asking how long after the "prompts" get sent out does a phone get put on sale. I'll text back if she says anything.

She seems to be distracted at the moment.

Work. Ugh.

It should be in a folder called "Background" or "wallpaper" on the root of your SDcard, unless you deleted that folder. It will remain on the phone when you pull the SD card because it is saved in the system portion of your phone. Finding it may be tough, but look through the "Drawable HDPI" folder.

Does anyone use Google Voice to actually place calls, or just for the voicemail features?

I use it for all my calls. I still have an Atlanta number as my primary number (for family and other VZW customers) and I give my Colorado GV number out to anyone I meet now. The Colorado number hits my phone just like any other call would and since I'm using an older version of GV I can route all outgoing calls to that one number and it goes through my F&F plan as a free call. Since we have unlimited text too, I have my GV text show up in the stock text app too. Anyone with my CO GV number doesn't know the difference.

Yeah methinks EM would make a great technical marketing person :)

Thanks!

But - I think I'll stick with R&D. I pretty much avoid ties and haircuts. ;)

I did do a stint for a few years as Worldwide Operations VP for our company, it was a lot of fun explaining to people what our stuff did (and didn't) do. One day I was told by a competitor that I'd be even more effective wearing a tie. After giving that every bit of the consideration that it was due, I told my replacement to look sharp. That worked out well for both of us because he already did. ;) :D
