***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Truth be told, the camera is very low on the priority list of things that I need in a phone. I think I've taken a total of maybe a hundred pictures and exactly one video in the year and a half I've had my OG Droid. Most people that care a tremendous amount about the megapixels and other features of phone cameras have real, actual cameras that they probably also tote around with them, so I'm at a little bit of a loss as to why the Nexus' camera is being fussed over to this extent.

I agree.

Phone camera, optimized for low light and speed = AWESOME!

Those features are exactly what I look for in a point and shoot.

If I want GREAT photos, I break out the dslr and better lenses.

If I want quick snapshots, without having to flash, that will upload quickly to the cloud somewhere for sharing, well, this is how I would have ordered it up.

Do they not know they put this on an android device which you log with a google account which does all this for you? lol i dont get why vzw is doing this.

Not everyone is coming to the phone as a previous Android user or with a previous GMail account. If you just have an LG Dare or an Octane then they need to get their info transferred.

TV stuff

still no tv at the new house - is homeland on hulu? Or anywhere else online? I think the actor Han referred to is Damien Lewis. If so, he's awesome! Had an amazing series called life on nbc a few years back but it was cancelled after 2 seasons. Worth watching on hulu!

I like new girl and Whitney too - Whitney reminds me of my relationship sometimes. The episode last week with Clancy the old dog was great.

I've only watched some of 24 but I've liked what I've seen.

Other stuff
omg finally getting a gb update on my charge

Something one of you developer types can possibly make money on is an APP or Theme that will forbid any screens with WHITE or bright colored backgrounds.

Law enforcement, Security and PI types need this Mucho Grande for surveillance/undercover work that requires communications that don't light up your face or your location.

Someone please come up with one. I would love to have a switch that made it all Red on Black.

I would pay for this kind of app.

CyanogenMod has a RenderFX widget that does just that. Red on Black is just one of the many choices.

Lol what else could we do to hit 50k plus posts :p We had to fuss over everything.

Not sure if anyone here is a camera aficionado but if you are and are in the know . . .

The sensor for the Galaxy S II is allegedly better making the camera better than the Nexus (allegedly). Did Samsung do this because they could not get zero lag out of better sensors?

What I'm asking is did Samsung make a choice with this phone to have less quality to introduce a new feature until the other technology could catch up OR could they have included better sensors AND still had zero lag?

My guess would be yes, I know the S II is 8 mp. the more data your moving/saving the more time it takes.

That said I have a feeling the GN camera is perfectly fine for 99% of the people using it.

Ok so with the current status of things, I was able to confirm several things for you guys in regards to my original post:

  1. 32GB is the confirmed model, there are no plans for a 16GB model.
  2. 1850mah is the confirmed production battery capacity (some early development models originally came with 1750mah but were returned to factory).
  3. The current status of pricing is as previously set at $299 on-contract and ~$600 off-contract.
  4. Out of box devices will come in one of two scenarios that will depend on when and where the purchase order was made:
    • The device will come with 4.0.1 preinstalled and will prompt you for a 4.0.2 update upon activation.
    • The device will come with 4.0.2 at stock and will not prompt you for any further updates until 4.1 testing is concluded.
  5. 4.1 is currently in very limited testing at the moment (if you have this, you are most likely a tester or developer).
  6. Depending on the results of testing, 4.1 will be an update that is pushed publicly post-release or it may be held off for further fixes.

Unfortunatly, I don't have any data for you guys regarding which is the more likely OS version scenario but I can say that everyone will see version 4.0.2 upon release either at stock or with an update prompt.

I apologize again for the previous confusion and I will keep you guys posted as I receive more information and updates.

Well the Arrested Development movie is definitely happening along with 9 more episodes in 2013. AD is hilarious and I cannot wait to see some more episodes. Its weird to see the cast on other TV shows because I expect them to be in their AD characters.

Mitchell Hurwitz Promises an 'Arrested Development' Movie, and New TV Episodes - NYTimes.com

Still haven't gotten around to seeing even one episode of Arrested Development.

And I wish they'd make a movie of The Shield. That show is in my top 3 of all time.

I am a huge photography enthusiast! Don't know the answer, but I'd say YES to both your questions ;)

Just got an answer from P3Droid (not what I was looking for either):

Not sure what the "nope" was to, but I am afraid it means it doesn't support it natively.

The LTE version may be different, but I have seen videos of guys using the USB OTG on the GSM version with no problems. The guy has his external hard drive connected to the GNex to play videos. Not sure if that is what you are asking about though

Apparently, Google chose the 5MP sensor for better low light performance, and from what I've seen in reviews, it is FAR better for night shots. So that's probably true.

As for the sensor being better, it isn't from the legitimate reviews I've seen. Outdoor shots are comparable, but indoor and low light shots are clearly better on the GNex than the SGSII.

Yes, Damien Lewis! He's great. Homeland is not on hulu, unfortunately. It's a Showtime channel show. :(
