***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

I know I'm being a downer but we still have no official word on anything yet. People are getting worked up about 12/8 and still nothing. A friend of mine works in a VW store and this person has not heard anything, either. The manager of this store has heard nothing as well. I'm supposed to get a call or text on anything related to the GN so I will keep everyone posted if I hear anything.

I do get the same feeling like the Nov. 17th/21st hope. Although SirLance did get an email about webinars next week.

For those saying the camera is worse than the SII or hearing that it is...what is the basis for this claim? I have not heard this at all and while the camera isn't a deal breaker for me, it is an important feature. I'm paying for the camera whether I want it or not. How good this camera is depends on whether or not I use it. So for every smart phone I buy, I am paying for a camera that I will or won't use. All of them have it now, so I can't just say that I don't want a camera on it because it's crappy.

The camera on the Nexus, from what I have seen, is very good for a phone. The aperture is wide enough to take decent low light (indoor) shots and that is the biggest feature of a camera. When you start getting into cameras that don't have wider apertures, then they raise the sensitivity (introduce more noise) and increase the amount of time the shutter is open (introducing higher chance for blur). The Nexus, from what I have heard, has an f/2.7 aperture. Compare that to several lenses I own that cost thousands of dollars for my dSLR, most are f/2.8, so the lens on the Nexus has a pretty decent aperture. The Rezound has an f/2.2, and I can tell you from in-store experience, it takes good low light shots. I took several in the store and they all turned out really well, to top it off, it was at night and the lighting in the store was pretty dim.

Right on many accounts, but don't forget that the wider your lens gets the larger your aperature has to be to get the same affect. Hence a f2.8 on a 50mm lens isn't very fast but one on a 300mm is extremely fast, and phone camera lenses are what 3-5mm.

My guess would be yes, I know the S II is 8 mp. the more data your moving/saving the more time it takes.

That said I have a feeling the GN camera is perfectly fine for 99% of the people using it.

I change my DX settings to 3Mp to reduce lag so GN camera will be an upgrade for me. Used to miss too many good spontaneous moments with my kids due to lag. For me Lack of Lag > MPs.

There was a custom kernel developed for the GSM Version of the Nexus that allows for USB Host mode to be enabled and a flash drive to be mounted or wireless mouse to be used.

Ok. I'm pretty sure though that this guy did it during an unboxing, but I could be wrong. So may videos to go through

Ugh. Come on. He's still flesh and blood. He's not an alien, like Superman. They should have stuck to the original concept: He's an alter ego of Bruce Banner when he gets pissed. He should be able to travel to other planets and conquer them. He can't be pissed 24/7. It's physically impossible. Also, why the hell hasn't anyone just killed him when he's Bruce Banner? No one can just point a sniper rifle at him when he's not looking?

I stopped reading comic books a while ago because I couldn't stand all these "alternate" universes, time travel, etc. They keep killing off superheroes and then bringing them back a few months later, as if nothing happened. They kill Batman, and then reveal that he was actually just thrown backwards in time.

It's so frakking aggravating.

I'm pissed 24/7. :( [\HIDE]

Personally, I take a lot of low-light shots, and this is going to be a huge plus for me. The DX camera is SAD to say the least, unless I'm outside on a sunny day...then it's passable.

It's so cute how grown men get so serious when they talk about super heroes like they're real people.

I take a lot of shots inside too so I'm really looking forward to this.

I love this group. Cars, Star Wars, techie speak, guns, superheroes and they get all macho cute. I will say I incorporated 2 of these into the avi I'm working on.

Tv stuff:

We saw a couple of New Girl's and tivo'd the rest. I'm not a big fan of Whitney Cummings; haven't seen that one.

But we really like the redheaded guy on Homeland. He was awesome in Band of Brothers, and we hadn't seen him since.

Blanket is a boy? I don't know why I never bothered to confirm, but I always thought that was a girl! Astro was good, but it was just too similar every week. I thought it was funny that L.A. kept complaining about how Drew doesn't change it up, but Astro was the same way.

We really liked him, though.

Damian Lewis is the red head, he had a show on NBC that only lasted 2 seasons but was REALLY good. Life | Watch Episodes Online for Free - Life TV Show, Series - Video Clips, Episode Recaps, Photos, Bios, Downloads & Games

I know IP4S does not stand a chance against the SGN, but any who take a look at these sexy photos to keep ya guys excited :D.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus vs Iphone 4S head to head review - The Inquirer

I don't get the last part of this:

Despite having a screen that is over an inch bigger at 4.65in, the Galaxy Nexus is 5g lighter at 135g and thinner at 8.94mm than the cappuccino company's counterpart.

What is the cappuccino company? That makes no sense.

I cannot wait to see what you power users do with this phone.

As for me.... I just need an updated handset & LTE. My old wrinkled eyes needed the larger display yesterday.

My OG Droid Has Served Me Well

Something one of you developer types can possibly make money on is an APP or Theme that will forbid any screens with WHITE or bright colored backgrounds.

Law enforcement, Security and PI types need this Mucho Grande for surveillance/undercover work that requires communications that don't light up your face or your location.

Someone please come up with one. I would love to have a switch that made it all Red on Black.

I would pay for this kind of app.

I def had an app on my OG that was a type of screen filter. I could do red, blue, orange, and yellow. The red and blue were rather dark and would probably be perfect for what you are looking for. I was running CM 7 at the time and I think it was an option on it. My screen has since gone kaput, and I can't tell you what the app is called. But so you know...it's definitely out there.

Probably Ninja'd 10 times, but I'm not gonna check.

All this photography detail aside...

My Beloved OG Droid takes about 10 seconds to snap a picture... and I count myself lucky if I snap a second one without her rebooting on me.

ANYTHING is an upgrade at this point, so I think I'll be very happy with Nexus :)

Speaking of "very happy": where's VZ_Wired? Where's Love Tunnel? Our faithful sources seem deafeningly silent these days...

Truth be told, the camera is very low on the priority list of things that I need in a phone. I think I've taken a total of maybe a hundred pictures and exactly one video in the year and a half I've had my OG Droid. Most people that care a tremendous amount about the megapixels and other features of phone cameras have real, actual cameras that they probably also tote around with them, so I'm at a little bit of a loss as to why the Nexus' camera is being fussed over to this extent.

I work in video production. We're part of an internal department for a large public entity. Much of what we produce is marketing and promotional content. Our "boss" is pushing for short, quick video content to be uploaded to our YouTube channel from events in the field. This gonzo video "production" flies in the face of 28 years of production experience and standards, but the "times they are a changin'". The powers that be are considering buying iPads to accomplish this. I was hopeful GNex's camera would be sufficient in this capacity, but from what I've seen from videos posted, the quality is not very good.

So yes, there are professional still and video cameras that cell phone cameras will never replace. But there are instances where a good camera on a mobile device would really be handy. I was hoping for better on GNex.

I'll take PM's if anyone has a suggestion for a great quality cam in a mobile device with data upload capability on board.

F/2.8 IS fast for a 50mm though. F/2.8 is fast for any lens. It's much more pricey to get a faster lens on a longer zoom and on a 300mm lens it'll cost ya an arm and a leg :D

I think I know what you mean to say when you state "the wider your lens gets the larger your aperature has to be to get the same affect" but I don't understand your wording.

Anyway, the whole photography thing is a complete other topic in and of itself right!

Just a couple of thoughts regarding the idea of updates...

This is a Nexus device. Updates will come direct from Google. Verizon may play a part in *testing* these updates, but IMO that won't greatly affect the timing of updates. Remember, with a normal device (IE everything except a Nexus/Google Experience device), you have two parties involved in making the update....the carrier and the OEM. The OEM is the one that develops the initial update, then that update gets sent to the carrier, where they will add its own network-specific stuff (apps, bloatware, settings, branding, etc). That will get sent back to the OEM for testing purposes, and then that gets sent back to the carrier for testing purposes. Carriers have to pay the OEM to make the update.

Since that process is what takes up the majority of the time, it won't effect Nexus devices. Samsung is not involved in the software side of things whatsoever (thank god, their software support sucks). That leaves Google for software and Verizon to make sure it works adequately with their network.

And anyway, software engineers that work on the AOSP have stated that Toro (the codename for the LTE GNex; Maguro is the codename for the GSM model) will be added to the AOSP source branch upon release of the device. This is in no way different to how the Nexus S and Nexus S 4G are separated in the branch due to the different software radios, but are both equally supported. We might see SOME fragmentation between the two, as the NS4G has 2.3.7 and the NS has 2.3.6 or 2.3.5 right now, but that is only due to differences in the specific models; one may need a slight tweak or bug fix that the other does not. Major ICS revisions, major bug fixes, and new features will be added to both GNex models without serious wait times, and both will be equally supported by Google in the AOSP branch.

I talked to my local VZW manager yesterday, too. He said that they all had training several weeks ago. He also said that it is not unusual for them to receive a device/release date just a day or two before the release.

I agree that it is disappointing to not see anything... but this is certainly looking more promising. Also, keep in mind last time/s... P3 said that everyone was wrong and we didn't want to believe him. This time, he is saying 12/8 with confidence. Of course, everyone can retract next week... but looking very good right now.

Somewhat true, most won't notice a difference. I don't think camera lenses are 3-5mm...probably closer to 15mm or so. You don't really notice a difference in the effect aperture has on speed in regards to different focal lengths until you get into extremes of ranges, like you said, comparing an f/2.8 50mm to an f/2.8 300mm. Comparing a 15mm at f/2.8 to anything up to 100mm or so at f/2.8 you won't notice much of a difference in capable shutter speeds.

Batman does not keep a kryptonite bullet, but rather has a kryptonite rock, given to him by Superman. Clark told Bruce that he was the one he trusted most to put him down with it should he ever be mind-controlled or a threat. Batman would never have any kind of bullet as he doesn't use guns. The one time he admittedly broke his anti-gun oath was when he used a special bullet to stop Darkseid in Final Crisis. Now that the DC universe has been reset, all bets are off.

Speaking of resets, in the brand new Incredible Hulk #1 out now, Hulk and Banner are separate physical entities. No word on how it happened yet.

Frank Miller's Dark Knight Returns mentions a kryptonite bullet. Also in the animated movie New Frontier he mentions it to the Martian Manhunter.

Jumping out from the darkness with my sad story.
GNEX to be my first smartphone..limping along with dysfunctional LG Chocolate.
Been due for upgrade since August. Jumped in to get grandfathered for unlimited in July. Using zilch but thought it would be a good move in the end.
Pass a hankie please.

Great Forum..thanks

Welcome. *passes hankie* it'll all be ok soon.
