Could The iPad Be Small By 2013?

We all have to admit it, the iPad is dominating the tablet world. But could it be the "little guy" by 2013? If you look at the pattern of android phones, you see that they actually outsell the IOS devices. So could that same thing happen to the tablet world? Android actually leaping ahead?

It's inevitable! Just like with the iphone, Apple tried to claim victory and had all its media mouthpieces proclaim game over. There was no way that anyone was going to out sell the jesus phone... until it happened. It's a old political ploy, proclaim victory before the election in hope that the masses will buy in and not bother to vote. Now they're trying the same strategy with the ipad. It's game over, so you shouldn't even consider anything else! Except the game hasn't even started yet. We're still in pre game warm ups. I think the Fire and Nook tablet and the cost change they're going to bring may be the "play ball" call.

Well you never know with Apple but I would not be surprise if they do come out with a smaller size tablet. They might do something like the Asus Transformer Prime with the keyboard dock as well.

If iPad comes out in a 7" I will drop the Samsung Galaxy tab in a heartbeat. I like this little thing for the portability, but in all reality iPad stuff just works all around better. I have had an iPad since version 1 release day, and now owning the iPad 2, I have reset or had a crash maybe 5 times total, I have had the Galaxy 7.0 plus for 2 weeks and have a crash daily, making me reset. Not to mention the hours I spent trying to get rid of all the bloatware included…...

Yes. I can see them doing this size like Asus TP. This would take the place of the netbooks. Doesn't have to be Apple but in the future overall.

The reason android phones outsell iphones is that dozens of companies make them, the same thing happened with computers. If people start making serious android tablets and tablet apps, I could see the ipad losing its dominance.

The iPad was is a very good device. It has a huge market share right now. The tablet market is just beginning to take off. As time goes on, people will want some type of variety in tablets. I do have an Asus Eee Pad Transformer. It is a 10" tablet. After using it a while, I do see the appeal of something smaller around 7" as I do find my 10" a little heavy to hold in one hand. The iPad 2 is approximately the same size and weight. The 7" tablets have the benefit if being comfortable to hold with one hand for an extended period of time.

The Apple iPhone hasn't changed in size for 4 years. I don't think that there will be a 7" iPad by 2013. The iPad is selling very well now and I think the single form factor will continue to sell well and make Apple a lot of money in 2013. I do see different sizes of iPads in the future, but probably not as soon as 2013.

Maybe you've got a bad Tab. I've got a 7" Tab myself and I love it for both it's size and it's reliability. I have found that I have to reboot mine about once a week or so or it starts behaving strangely. I don't find that to be unusual with mobile devices. I'm just running stock on it.

Maybe i'll clarify a little bit, my crashes are related to incompatible apps. I think the demise of android is really the shear amount of manufacturers and on top of that, the tons of different screen sizes. the OS is not built around a 4,5,7, 7.7, 8.9, 9.6, 10.1 screens. at the very least, the app store needs to be separated by screen size....I realize that ICS should help with this issue a bit better, and I welcome it. I'm up for trying anything, even though I am somewhat of an apple fanboy (have everything apple at home).

The thing Apple have got at the moment is when most think tablet they think ipad. I have a transformer and love it, yes its a little weighty but the price was way off an ipad. As for the Windows thing personally i think someone there has screwed up massively. Theyshould have already developed win vista never mind 7 into a combination of touch and keyboard but with apps. I have a touch screen monitor and Win 7 but i always prefer to use my tf101 because its easier to use and quicker to do what i want. I only use windows now for games and a larger monitor to type on. I have no faith in MS any more and i refuse to be a sheep and buy something becasue the other person has it and its all shiny. I like the idea behind android and i like how many manufacturers are utilising its frame work on their devices.

Nokia went down the same road as MS and thought they had too much of a market share to be intuitive and look where that lead them. Massive decline in sales.

They do make them, theyre called tablets, and before the iPad, they ran Windows (and still do), but were not very popular. My cousin owns one, but she hasnt used it since receiving it as a gift for years, and its still much faster than iPads and can run full Windows desktop applications such as Photoshop. Thats the genius of Apple.. they can market inferior products as godsends and as if they are the first of their kind and competing companies even try to imitate, since consumer demand suddenly happens.

What amazes me is that Windows slates were around before the ipad was but yet apple gets to sue companies saying that everyone copied apple? And as we all know, apple copied other manufacturers and called the design their own. One example is one that I think is overlooked. I don't have the link, someone else on here does though, but Samsung had a photo viewer back in 2006 that had the identical look as the ipad. Samsung had the design before ipad did? Who copied who? Now some could say that the photo viewer is not a tablet and does not have all the same functions even though it did have some of the same functions. It doesn't matter, apple sued Samsung in court over the 'looks' of their device. I have surprised this photo view device (and whatever else it did) has not made a cameo onto the scene with all this suing crap by apple. And of course we all know the classic example with apple copying the LG Prada.

The tech community needs to speak up more about all this bs by apple. Even though it has and one way it does is by speaking with it's wallets by not purchasing apple products. apple is a sinking ship, you may not 100% see it right now but it is happening and doing their business in court is only helping to sink that ship. They see it as a way to keep their ship afloat but they failed to see the negative press and image it is causing them. Which surprises me coming from a company so good at PR and advertising. Desperate times call for desperate calls. apple has gotten wrapped up in the lawyer litigation, suing game and when that starts it's sometimes tough to stop. It will, in time though. Especially as revenue continues to drop and it forces apple to look at their game plan again. By then they will be left in the dust in market share and in the minds of the general public that buy their products. Yes yes yes, I know they will always have a following by the loyalists, but it's not the loyalists that will keep the stock at the price it is and the board well funded.

Some say that apple is an american company and hurting it is hurting american jobs. First of all, really? Have you seen where apple products are made? Not here my friend. The American auto industry had a similar strategy and look where that put them? When an American company works to stifle innovation for personal gain, that's when I stop supporting them.

Apple's greed will be their undoing. Their business model is based entirely on marketing. Their pricing policies are ridiculous. I think that as times get tougher, people will become reluctant to pay for their closed-source, average-performing devices, especially when they carry such above-average price tags. They will definitely miss Jobs' guidance, just like they missed it the last time he left the company.

Apple will be forced to create other models of the iPad to compete against the wide range of tablets that Samsung has. That is exactly the reason why the iphone is losing market share; as people can't afford it, or they want something bigger or smaller. In 2010 the iPad had 95% tablet market share. Now in 2011, after smaller and bigger/smaller/cheaper tablets have come out, its market share has dropped to roughly 70%.

I fail to see how screen size is going to cause an issue with compatibility. There are 3.5" and 10" iOS devices and I don't see any incompatibility issues there.

This OP question got me to thinking about their overall history with the iPods and iPhones.

Pretty close to the same size as always, over the years, with a bit of noticeable accommodation for processor and graphics hardware, etc.

It seems apparent that Apple thinks long term wrt size format for their devices.

Apps that run on 3.5" iOS don't run on 10" iOS. You have to buy another app. It's not that way on Android so I'm not sure what issue is going on here. I've got a 4" phone, a 7" tablet and a 10" tablet. I can run the same app on all three of them with no problems because it scales. Now, on the 10" tablet I often end up with lots of white space and the app is not designed well to take advantage of the screen real estate, but I'd say 95% of the apps I have scale.

Most of the apps that I had on my Android phone worked on my Android tablet. The tablet had a feature that allows me to select whether I want to zoom or expand the app to the size of the tablet. The only app that I recall that did not work was the Facebook app. A few months ago, Facebook did make a tablet version of the app.

I have noticed some tablet specific apps. The Dolphin browser had a tablet version. I've used both versions on my tablet and both seem to work just as well.
