Yea or Nay?

ALTEC LANSING UHP306/UHS306 SNUGFIT IPOD IN-EARPHONE - eBay (item 150415016199 end time Mar-18-10 14:17:25 PDT)

They look OK..just be aware they have a 2.5MM plug. Although it says it comes w/ a 3.5mm adapter..do you really want to have an ugly adapter coming out of your eris just to use the earbuds?..I'd try to find some w/ a 3.5mm plug.

The way I read the description is that there's a 2.5mm adapter.

I bought them. Found an Ebayer selling for $17.99 w/free shipping. They retail for a lot more than that.

Also, back to the discussion on using your Eris as a music player, I'm sure it could last quite a while if you turned on Airplane Mode, stopped all apps/unnecessary programs and ONLY played the music you have on it. I'm able to get a little over four hours of straight Pandora from a full battery to 10%.

true, but that entirely defeats the purpose of having an Eris. You've turned it into an iPod at that point.

Your not running Pandora in airplane mode are you? I thought airplane mode shuts off ALL comms (3G, WiFi, GPS..everything)

There's a workaround but it may take some time depending on how many songs you have. Here's what I did:

Acquire a CD-RW
Make a new playlist called convert
Drag a number of protected songs to the convert playlist to total <80 min.
Burn playlist to CD-RW
Once burned, import back to iTunes as MP3.

DRM will be removed when you burn the audio disc allowing you to rip it back as unprotected MP3.

Not the sexiest but it works. There are programs around there that purport to allow you to convert your DRM music but they either cost, don't work, or both...

***Edit to add: Found this software that might work for you. It has a free version. I've never used it so YMMV. It skips the whole burn to CD rip back and just "burns" the playlist to a virtual CD drive.

DVD neXt COPY iTurns FREE

If time is important to you use a program like SoundTaxi. It will take DRM audio and video files and convert them to none DRM files. It will also maintain the tags and album art of the file which burning it to a disk won't normally do.

Looks like a decent program. But I'd try DVDneXtCOPY first since it's free.

Back when I did my conversion, these weren't available. Since I had the time, it wasn't a big deal to do the manual burn-rip.

Maybe I am missing something here. Not trying to start a fight or anything, but why do you guys actually like using iTunes?

iTunes is, without a doubt, the worst application ever written this side of the Milky Way galaxy. It does, in no way, shape, or form, resemble anything that I would ever want to open again. I wouldn't wish my worst enemy in the known universe the displeasure of having to use iTunes for anything. iTunes has zero redeeming qualities and if there was a way to physically punch a computer application I would gladly empty my bank account for a punch to face of the iTunes application. I would then gladly give a kidney, extra appendages, and even half of my brain to punch iTunes in the gut one more time. After that I would sell all of my worldly possessions and live in a cardboard box down by the nearest river if I could have one more punch to the lousy, horribly written, bloated, overbearing, piece of junk face of iTunes. I would then send an email to the entire universe asking them to all stand in line to pummel the ever living crap out of iTunes until the only thing left is a distant memory of the worst application to ever be created. Somebody with all of the knowledge in the known universe could not have written a worse application if given a billion lifetimes to try.

So what don't you like about it again?

So is that a yay or nay on the iTunes?

Ok, just for the record. I DID NOT create another account just to write this. :D

Well, if you want to compare the Eris to an iPod, that would be a way to do it. :) And when I mentioned how long I am able to use my Eris with Pandora going, that was just to prove a point that you can have your Eris go for almost 4 hours with 3G on and music playing constantly. With Airplane Mode, you would simply listen to the music loaded on your SD card through whatever music player of your choice.
