Help Why is this phone somewhat laggy and non-responsive?

So I've had this phone for a few days and there is SO much that's right with it. Screen is amazing, HTC Sense may be a bit bloated but it's fun and provides lots of use, radios are really good. However, I noticed the phone stumbles alot and isn't as responsive to touches as I'd like. I just don't understand it. 1.5 dual core processor. This thing should be silky smooth. I guess it's Sense but I've used the EPT4G with touchwiz on Sprint and that thing flies no matter what you're doing. It's a little annoying. Folders take a couple of touches to open or close, the browser stutters constantly when resizing, etc. I don't get it.

Anyone else noticing this?

I haven't noticed any lag at all. My Rz is smooth, responsive, and smokin fast. I came from an Inc and though fast... this is much faster.

My first step would be to factory reset the phone and reformat the SD card. I now do this with every phone I get. This is a pain and takes a little time but it eliminates the need to do that right after setting everything up (dl apps, email, etc.). If I find the phone has issues after the reset I get a replacement right then.

I also test the phone after I install each app. I have about 10 core apps that I must have installed.

When I install non-critical apps I will do some basic testing when I use the app but nothing major.

Might be more than most people want to do but it works for me and I find I have less issues long term.

Nothing but fast and smooth here. Like some other posters, I did a factory reset as soon as I got this phone.

If you don't want to do a factory reset, you might want to try a full restart (i.e., not powering off/on via fast boot) and see if that helps. If not, you might try a soft reset (leave phone on, remove battery, wait 30 seconds, insert battery, power on). Otherwise, a factory reset might be your only option.

Androidcurious how do you compare your experience with Sprint and the ET4G to the Rezound on VZW?

I'll qualify my answer by first telling you I live in the Bay area, so in terms of coverage all 4 carriers are pretty decent out here (YMMV of course).

So far, I'm sad to say, it's night and day. The ET4G is just a world class device. Amazingly fluid, great features, and the first time I've used Android where it feels as fast as iOS or Windows. The Rezound so far has been a huge disappointment. Laggy, buggy, even after two factory resets. Screen is better than the Epic but it's not like the Epic's Super Amoled was hard to look at.

4G is a non-starter, VZW is blazing in my area. Wimax coverage was fine but it doesn't compare to LTE, at least not here.

Battery life is about equal, they both suck although the Epic seemed to get better as time wore on, so perhaps the same will be true of the Rezound.

So Ive now done TWO factory resets and the phone is still crappy. I suppose I have a lemon but I don't have the interest to try another, so it's just going back. Hopefully the Nexus comes out this week, if not...I have absolutely no idea what I'm going to do. I hate Moto Android phones, ain't going back to iOS, and VZW has no Windows phones.

I'm kinda stuck.

Sounds like you have already made up your mind with out getting your rezound replaced. Samsung it is. Or a flip phone.

I have 7 personal lines and 3 on business. I have or had about every highend smart phone on Verizon except the Razr. Only because I already have the Bionic and I was able to play with a Razr for half a day. I lean toward Motorola, but I will say as far as I'm concerned the Rezound is the best Android on Verizon. No lag on 2 that we have with 80 plus apps on each.

Thanks! Why not just go back to Sprint?

I have no doubt I simply got a lemon. It's just this has already left a bad taste in my mouth, which sucks because what's funny about the whole thing to me is I LUSTED after the Evo for quite a while and felt this was the greatest version of it, finally! Looks like the Nexus is dropping this week, so on to that. (If that's buggy I may just walk around with two cans and a string, tossing one end to people I meet on the street to pretend I'm having a phone conversation.)

I'd be more wary of the build quality, lag issues, reception and speaker volume on the Nexus. I have the Rezound and there is no lag on this phone. Waiting on some actual reviews from users who have the Nexus. Once it's been released of course.

Build quality, I already know what I'm getting into. Samsung is Samsung, it's going to feel just a tad too light and plasticky. This didn't really bother me on the S2. Lag I'm not concerned about either, it's a stock Android device with a powerful processor. I could be in for a surprise, sure.

Reception and speaker, yes, you're absolutely right - could be an issue, no way of knowing yet. The S2's reception and speaker were fine so I'm hoping that's the case here.

Some of the reviews I read stated very low speaker volume (not ear piece volume). Some of the reviews (phonedog for example) noted lag and showed it on the review video. I don't know. I have a bad taste from owning previous Samsungs....

REALLY great article. Truly profound are the statements that Android is the only mobile OS left that existed pre-iPhone and that it is time for a new framework, no matter what the cost.
This finally quantifies, for me, people's obsession with iOS:
"A laggy UI breaks the core affordance language of a touch screen. The device no longer feels natural. It loses the magic. The user is pulled out of their interaction and must implicitly acknowledge they are using an imperfect computer simulation. I often get
