***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

I called VZW CSR and had a long with a nice lady there. She told me the Gnex was put on hold for now. She also said to call back in two days as it's going to be released then.

I told her I had seen the phone at Samsung Experience in NYC and that I wanted it.

So, I believe her. Two more days, folks. :)

Edit from my convo with Early: "and i completely believe it - as i predicted, people will have it in their hands by monday due to sales on friday or saturday as driven by retail pressures to not miss a full weekend of sales in december"

So, you're still sticking with that January theory? The theory that sounds financially nonsensical for Verizon? After having spent hundreds of thousands, or even millions on logistics to get it shipped to stores across the country, and then just letting it sit around makes no sense. They need to sell those phones A.S.A.P. to recover those expenses. They have also most likely spent a good bit of money for any hardware/software issues if there truly were any. So with that in mind, any further delays or refusals to launch the phone will result in negative capital, which nobody likes, especially the Board of Directors and shareholders.

And if you can equate 'logic' to 'Verizon', you are indeed a better man than I. :D

I have been lurking on here a while and decided to register and post. I have had my upgrade since October, but was told by a family friend in the know at VZW to hold on until around Thanksgiving with the new phones rolling out (referring to Razr, Rezound, Nexus). Since then, I started researching and finally was able to decide on the Nexus, so I have been waiting even more.

Yesterday morning, I contacted a salesperson I know at the local VZW store and asked if she was working on Friday. She asked if I was wanting the Nexus, and I said yes, so she put me down for an appointment. Shortly after when the postponement was leaked, she let me know that I wouldn't be able to get it (which I had already seen on here.) So needless to say, I was disappointed.

Today at lunch, it just so happens that the VZW and AT&T folks were in our work cafeteria, so I went and asked about the Nexus. She replied that there was a meeting this morning and gave me a date of 12/12 for the Nexus. I asked how certain she was since it has been delayed a few times, and she seemed about 75% certain.

That's all I have. I hope that I will have this phone in my hand next week, but until then, my Eris somehow soldiers on...

That's the second person who has mentioned the 12th (possibly even more)...which makes sense in regards to letting the 4G network run smoothly for 48-72 hours. Let's face it, Monday isn't that far away!

Better then the usual 2 more weeks. So we are making progress.

Just checking in. Can anyone fill me in on what I've missed so far? What happened with that Verizon meeting scheduled for this morning? TIA!

You've missed about 800 people post useless stories about their reps calling them and telling them that they can't buy phones tomorrow. In other words, nothing.

Quoted for remembrance. I'll post up if I'm able to buy one tomorrow a.m. If I manage to do so, the forum will expect video of you doing the deed, now that P3 has no more phone to eat himself...

correct,
Its silly to claim that not a SINGLE CSR/re-seller/shack/costico/bb employee will screw up and sell the phone. Let history be your guide, I can't remember a single major release that someone DIDN'T get the item early...

I'm kind of envious of those of you that have held the phone or even received confirmation that the stores actually had them in stock. Every store around here, including Costco and BB, have said they don't have them yet. I don't believe it, but I can't refute them.

Yea I'm in central jersey and called a few places (radio shacks, costco, even a BJs) and didn't get a single piece of good information.

I heard:
"next week"
"call tomorrow"
"I don't know"
"We don't have that phone" <--- thanks, guy
"it came out in canada so it won't be long now"

How do Canada, south korea, and the UK all get the phone before we do? I wish I hadn't called around, what a waste of time.

Do you know if there's a way to change the notification pull down? That's probably my second biggest gripe with the ReZound, right behind the flush buttons that drive me crazy

When I had the Rezound, I didn't try that since I was OK with the pull down the way it was. But yes, the flush buttons are a pain as they are to a bit less of a degree on the Razr. Form before function? But you know what, I could live with it. It is one very very solid phone (great radio, great camera) that did everything well. I was really reluctant to return it, but I can thank the Nexus for that. Now I'm really wondering.

Two business days as in Monday 12/12 or two days as in Saturday 12/10?

as far as i know 4g is back up right?
so if that's the case and if our theory is right there should be no reason for a delay?
hopefully the meeting that the vzw stores will have is taking place RIGHT NOW or within an hour since more stores in SE Michigan at least open at 9-10.

I'm so sleepy though, got to sleep. set my alarm for 9:30 for a quick check in on the status. i have a good feeling. hopefully i can wake up happy!

wrote that in the morning...

so much disappointment.

Has Han had a chance to check in with his sister?

I would seriously like to know what the booty was on this deal for Samsung/Google, they should have just released the thing on all carriers while Verizon played with tinker toys until they decided to release it.

Somehow I think Verizon gave them the strong arm and told them they would only sell it IF they got the exclusivity deal.^10

Edit: Booty is not your butt, apparently the accounting nerd comes out in me when I'm angry.

Where is the Droid Bionic on that list? It seems incomplete without it there.;)

i was going to say the same thing. but, in fairness, the Etna (original Bionic debuted at CES) was completely scrapped, and the Targa (renamed as Bionic) actually released on time (as the Targa was originally slated for a Q3 release). but, i see your point - scrapping a phone and giving the name to a completely different device and then releasing it 6-8 months later could certainly qualify as a "botched release".

i still think the GNex has it beat, tho...

I assume the next Nexus phone will come from Motorola since Google is buying Motorola's mobile division. And since Verizon and Motorola seem to have such a close relationship with the Droids, the next release of a Nexus on Verizon will go much smoother.

Maybe there is some animosity between Verizon/Motorola and Samsung?
I sure hope not. A name of "Droid Nexus" sounds terrible. :)

Can't change the notification dropdown without root/s-off and that is nowhere to be seen on the Rezound so far.

The whole "Free Press: Verizon May Have Violated Spectrum Rules in Google Negotiation" Is starting to get some legs in my book. It's the only thing that makes sense - the phone is out, it's been delivered, it seems bug free from all accounts.

But legal problems I could see holding up the show. I can just see months and months ago when they were talking to Google about the phone. Google was telling them about all the features, they get to G Wallet and Big Red is like: Whoa, wait a minute, we have our own wallet thing we are going to push. I don't know if we can take the phone if you put that on there. Google thinks about it and finally says: Ok, we'll skip it for your version.

Now months later, articles about the Wallet come out, Big Red is like: "We didn't do anything honest"... then they go to their lawyers and say- hey could we really get sued over this? Lawyers come back and say "yes, you are in violation, you could get your pants sued off"

Last minute message from big wigs: HOLD THE PHONE - We're not releasing shit until we can make sure we have our asses covered.
