***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Not open for further replies.
I called VZW CSR and had a long with a nice lady there. She told me the Gnex was put on hold for now. She also said to call back in two days as it's going to be released then.

I told her I had seen the phone at Samsung Experience in NYC and that I wanted it.

So, I believe her. Two more days, folks. :)

Edit from my convo with Early: "and i completely believe it - as i predicted, people will have it in their hands by monday due to sales on friday or saturday as driven by retail pressures to not miss a full weekend of sales in december"

That's what we thought 2 days ago too. Not getting my hopes up.

Way back around post 18k-20k I decided to take a step back and just follow the thread by thanking everything I agreed with. By doing this I missed out on the opportunity to be included on the awesome gift to Steven. Enjoy it, it is well deserved.

Regardless, being a tech geek, I have followed the release of several Verizon phones and they all end up the same way and for the most part this is no different whatever the issues are. One day is euphoric and the next it's suicidal.

With all of the hype built around the GNex, believe me, Verizon knows what they have and there is no way they will not release the phone. They said the end of the year and it could very well still be that.

Everyone take a deep breath, it's coming soon and you will forget all 70k posts here and move to wallpapers, launcher, tips, new apps, rooting, roms etc!

With all of that being said, I burned one more post on my quest to have my 1k post be my "I have my Gnex!"

I actually think it's more about economics. Since they failed to get it out on or before black Friday or cyber Monday, they are looking at the busiest shopping week prior to Christmas excluding BF.

Which I bet is next week.

If we don't see it tomorrow, I am still holding out hope, we will see it next week because to capitalize on sales, next week is the target. The following week is no good because of Xmas and the week after will be drowned out by end of year deals everywhere. Just my opinion. :)

Although I agree with you that next weekend is the biggest shopping weekend besides BF I think a launch next weekend from a marketing standpoint is poor marketing.

1) Folks plan their shopping before they go shopping and they can't plan to buy what they don't know is available.
2) You want the phone out before the 2nd busiest shopping weekend. You don't put all your eggs in one basket (weekend) for sales. You launch before that, folks playing with it, touting it, getting all the great PR this phone will give them. We know it will get get free press because the phone is already out everywhere but here and nothing but accolades. VZW missed the boat by not making it by BF and everyday after is lost revenue. Targeting any date after BF has no benefit for them....getting it out ASAP after BF is the only course of action, there is no such thing in delaying a high tech device for a certain weekend after BF.

I will say though, whatever reason for the delay next weekend is the latest they can release this thing to capitalize on any holiday sales. After that they miss the boat and a release date is up in the air in my opinion and I am not going to wait. I see releasing for holiday sales is the biggest motivating factor to get this phone out. If they miss next weekend that motivation is gone and I dare not speculate on when/if the GN will be released.

Out of honest curiosity, why are you waiting? I mean, reasons why you, personally, are waiting?

For sport, I will give you mine:

1) First ICS Experience
2) (Hopefully) advanced OS updates directly from Google
3) NO BUTTONS!!! (See Razr/Rezound, Flaw Of)

Lately I have been considering just going the Rezound (or Razr) route myself, since I have sort of lost steam for the Nexus and I could probably get a good deal on either of those devices through a friend. The thing that is stopping me from going with either of them is that, considering I will have this phone for at least 20 months, and the majority of those months I will be running ICS, I feel both are not really ideal for ICS. It's not so much that I need ICS, but I want a phone that can handle it in the future.

As you mention, I really question what will happen with the four navigation buttons on both devices. I'd hate for them to become just wasted space and a constant reminder that I should've waited for a true ICS device. Anyone have any idea what will happen with these buttons? Will they be non functioning? Will they duplicate the functions of the new on screen buttons?

I really like the design of the Razr but I think if ICS is designed for a 720p display, then qHD won't cut it.

I have been lurking on here a while and decided to register and post. I have had my upgrade since October, but was told by a family friend in the know at VZW to hold on until around Thanksgiving with the new phones rolling out (referring to Razr, Rezound, Nexus). Since then, I started researching and finally was able to decide on the Nexus, so I have been waiting even more.

Yesterday morning, I contacted a salesperson I know at the local VZW store and asked if she was working on Friday. She asked if I was wanting the Nexus, and I said yes, so she put me down for an appointment. Shortly after when the postponement was leaked, she let me know that I wouldn't be able to get it (which I had already seen on here.) So needless to say, I was disappointed.

Today at lunch, it just so happens that the VZW and AT&T folks were in our work cafeteria, so I went and asked about the Nexus. She replied that there was a meeting this morning and gave me a date of 12/12 for the Nexus. I asked how certain she was since it has been delayed a few times, and she seemed about 75% certain.

That's all I have. I hope that I will have this phone in my hand next week, but until then, my Eris somehow soldiers on...

Oh geez, please tell me VZW is not doing another gimmick. 12/12 at 12:12? Could this be the reason for the delay? They delayed the RAZR for the 11/11/11 thing, and that was their baby.

I assume the next Nexus phone will come from Motorola since Google is buying Motorola's mobile division. And since Verizon and Motorola seem to have such a close relationship with the Droids, the next release of a Nexus on Verizon will go much smoother.

Maybe there is some animosity between Verizon/Motorola and Samsung?

Motorola will have to give up their precious bootloader locking/encrypting then. Hell might freeze over before that happens...

Folks, it would be really helpful if along with your VZW rep experiences, you could also tell us your location. Specifics would be great, but even just a region would suffice. Lot of info here, and as we're all trying to figure out a strategy, it would be helpful to know where these conversations are happening.

Maybe you should start a thread?

Might be good to keep track of who is saying what and where. If, for some reason, certain locations or retailers are going to be selling the phone tomorrow, it would be nice to have that info all in one place.

I agree on not releasing tomorrow. But how are you so sure about next several days?

Because everyone is clueless. Because there is still not one announcement from Verizon. Because Verzion won't make an announcement over the weekend as we all know.

So the earliest possible launch IMO is Tuesday and I just doubt it. I just don't think we're that close anymore. I hope I'm wrong.

I'll play. For me:

1) First ICS experience
2) Larger screen than either the Rezound or Razr
3) Super OLED screen which I prefer to the Rezound's non-OLED screen (even though the Rezound is "HD"
