Off topic computer question:

I am showing my non tech knowledge here - what is the SSD and why is it so good? And I know a couple people I'm pm'ing the next Time I buy a computer!

Answer to your question:
SSD = Solid State Drive: no moving parts (essentially flash memory), which means it can read/write data faster than a mechanical HDD. If you put the OS/certain programs on an SSD you get super fast boot times (which is why some people only buy ~64 GB SSDs, just enough to contain the OS and other R/W-intensive programs).

Hope I helped you out :)

Computer answer:
A "Solid State Drive" is a hard drive that uses flash memory (like a USB thumb drive does), instead of the normal magnetic platters. SSDs are generally much faster than normal hard drives, but have less space and are more expensive. One nice setup is to use an SSD as the operating system and application drive, and a normal HD as your data drive. That lets programs run faster, but gives you plenty of space for media.

Edit: And what a surprise: totally ninja'ed. *

Solid State Drive. Basically a HDD that uses flash memory instead of ys,pinning disks and is WAY faster in most respects than a HDD.

And this is why I love asking questions here. Rather than get flamed for not knowing I get explanations so fast its amazing.
Thanks!
And TiA to anyone else answering

Basically up until now (for years) the computers prosessor has been bottlenecked by other components, one of them mainly being the HDD. An SSD (Solid State Drive) is esentially flash memory which will replace your HDD and is set at speeds to read at a much higher rate. So now, your processor esentially does not have to wait for your HDD to feed back information.
^ Hope I made that sound basic enough?

Verizon is off the hook, my frustration is now directed at someone else, someone I can call and tell them how I feel. Verizon, you have 12 hours!

Warning, very OT rant...

So, for those with dogs, especially in the south... Heart Worm... it sucks. Logan had it before I adopted him and was treated the day before I met him. The HWs get in the heart and lungs and live there. The treatment is a very large needle deep into the hind quarters...twice. So, 7 months after treatment, they get re-tested and are hopefully clear. Logan had his treatment in May, tested in December, and standard vaccines and check-up in April.

Anyway, Logan is on monthly preventative now. I went to order yesterday and got an email tonight that my vet denied the prescription because he's due for his test... are you kidding me? To me, this seems like the vet trying to drum up business... sadly for them, if I call and talk to them tomorrow, and they do not issue the prescription... they won't get any more business from us.

Did I mention that I work in rescue and deal with a lot of people who have dogs and are adopting dogs... yeah, they won't be getting my endorsement either.

This is similar to my eye doctor who wouldn't issue a prescription renewal for my contacts because they were out of date... guess what... I'm an adult, I can decide if I either (a) can't see very well and need a stronger script, or (b) am doing damage to my eyes and am experiencing contact induced complications.

/end rant...sorry.
Rebuttal for OT rant
Sorry to rain on your parade but the reason they make you come in is not to "drum up business" as you are inferring to but it is because they are liable if something happens to your eyes or your dog if something happens after they prescribe, i.e. malpractice. It is a simple system of checks and balances. As you may be able to tell, and would be able to if you check my bio, I work in health care. Our clinic practices these same policies and while some patients do not like it, if we were to just prescribe to everyone we would be out of business for two reasons the main one being lawsuits for malpractice the other no revenue as we would be working for free.

seriously hope no one is that crazy... but even if they were, VZ would just blacklist the MEIDs making them useless. i honestly believe that we will see a few people with a nexus in their hands tomorrow though. there are bound to be some stores/resellers/third party distributors that let 1 or 2 fly out the door before VZ brings down the hammer on them.

Short note here:

You know I love you guys, right? I have to get serious here. I have to bring out the dreaded ban hammer for these last days of our thread, especially as tensions get higher. We've had two separate episodes of bickering today. It's got to stop. Immediately!!

I just deleted eight posts of folks bickering or quoting it. If you see bickering, don't get involved. Just report it. If you quote it, you guys make it harder for OTD, Early and I, as we have to go back the through thread and delete every reference to the offense. We may even have to close it to clean the offenses up. It was almost closed today, fyi.

I'm not infracting/banning/warning this time, but I am going to do it heavily, going forward. I have to. I have to keep the peace to make it safe for everyone.
It's out of love that I do what I have to do going forward. I don't WANT to, so please put a check on yourselves. Report, don't respond.

Below this line:

we love one another, respect and defer to each other. :D
