Help camera takes terrible pics......

99% of the cameras on cell phones only have digital zoom, so yeah when you zoom the image is going to get worse. Since it is only taking the same photo and blowing up the section you are zooming in on.

The flash is a little weak on the phone, so that is going to explain your low light issues.

If you want good quality pictures, buy an actual camera...

Most people don't know this so quoting for truth.

Also the camera takes pretty decent pictures for me. Please do some searching -- check this thread of camera pictures:

I agree. This camera takes horrible pictures unless the lighting is perfect. Its the only thing I don't like about the phone. But hey if that's the only thing I don't like I'll take it.

I think in my case I was just spoiled by the iPhone which took fantastic pictures in any lighting situation. I have yet to take a good photograph indoors ...

Yeah, maybe I should start wearing 3 fanny packs and a backpack to lug around my Cannon Mark II with all its lenses.

For many, there are times you have to travel very light and would like to take pictures. Or maybe you're somewhere you never thought you'd need a camera and the unexpected perfect opportunity comes...

The top 4 cameras used to produce pictures on Flickr are:
iPhone 4
iPhone 4s
iPhone 3gs
iphone 3g

So what I'm saying is people are using the hell out of their camera phones and Android needs to get with it. Stop releasing top end phones with cameras equal to Apple's camera from 2+ models ago in them.

@ ttaylor0024i am not saying it should be the best on the market.. but it is sub-par when it comes to phones imo

and i am not sure why your even arguing against it.. this wasnt meant for a discussion this was meant to see if there is something that can be done to fix MY picture taking... like.. ok apparently zooming will be horrible photo quality.. Check... now what about the low light... what about the focusing issues in low light.. Thought also ICS had something built into it to take moving pictures clearer?

also about the Zooming.. i have noticed that the ZOOMING.. i mean likw 15-20% zoom.. is baaaaaad too.. is that normal as well? again... mid - low light

The first one you zoomed in, probably to 100%. You have to remember that this is a phone. If you want to take professional pictures, get a professional CAMERA. It does perfectly fine for me. People need to stop thinking this camera is the holy grail.

Yes, but that argument has gotten much much weaker since the release of the iPhone 4. If you go to professional photography forums (which I do) you know that many photographers are stating to prefer the camera phones vs there actual cameras because of the convinence of having it. It is also widely agreed that there are really no sub $400 cameras that are worth having over a iPhone 4 camera or the newer samsungs because the quality is 95% of that of those cameras along with the added portability.

Yes, once you get above that price range then the cameras do pretty much crush camera phones but for what we are taking pictures of ourselves there is no need. We just want a quality camera.

As the nexus is my first Samsung phone I am extremely disappointed in the camera on it. All I have been reading over the last 6-8 months is that all the samsung phones have better cameras than the iPhone 4 and 4s, so far all I am hearing is people saying don't expect a good camera on a cell phone. That is 100% false now...still love the phone but I would hate to have to start carrying around my xsi again for pics ;)

There's an awful lot of user error involved for someone to say the camera just "sucks". The camera is better than the iPhone 4 camera and people raved about that thing. I have had the Nexus One, Droid Incredible, Droid X, Thunderbolt, Droid X2, Droid Bionic, Droid Razr, Rezound, and the Galaxy Nexus so far. The Galaxy Nexus takes much better(not slightly better, much better) photos than all of them but the Rezound.

People need to learn how to take pictures; there is an understanding and skill involved in getting the perfect shot. There is much more to it than just holding the phone in a general direction and randomly hitting a button. The default settings may or may not be ideal for the lighting and movement conditions you are currently in. Default settings of different phones may not be good for the same types of pictures. Don't bother ever zooming in on a camera that uses digital zoom.

Keep in mind that iphone makes one model of phone, so of course if the market is about 50% iphone and 50%android youre going to see apple at the top, there are hundreds of android phones nowadays, flickr doesnt put android in its own category. I do admit iphone cameras are better, but HTC is no slouch...but the nexus camera will do fine for me, though my results seem to be better than a majority I see on here.

Lol don't make me take pics with both right now as I have both ...I would rather not waste the time to prove you very wrong. Maybe the nexus can take good pics if you sit there and play with settings all day . The iPhone is point and shoot that's it.

If you can get better pictures out of an iPhone and that is important to you, then just get an iPhone.

I normally just take pictures of beers I drink, and those are coming out pretty nicely on the GN.

That isn't the point though. There is no reason that this camera should be sub par to the Iphone 4. That is well over a year old now and the tech is there. Especially considering Samsung's reputation around Camera phones (some of the best IMO).

And to those that think it's a phone and not a camera that is BS, for 700 it should do both.

I also have a DSLR and Photography is a hobby of mine. I can tell you that the Iphone 4S for an open up the box POS camera it takes AMAZING pictures.

Oh and yes, camera zoom on all phones is horrible, we are probably 5-7yrs away from having good zooms on phones

I doubt you will see ANY good zooming cameras on phones. As the phone manufacturers are striving to make them thinner and thinner, the ability to make any moving parts, necessary for optical zoom, will not be an option. The only thing that could possibly happen is the camera sensor, and MP gain enough where the loss due to digital zoom will not be as noticeable...so maybe that will fall into that time frame.

Samsung generally have a GREAT camera on their phones. My Epic 4G's camera is superb. Any the Nexus is defintely not on the same performance level as it. Hopefully, the problems can be resolved by a combination software, and camera firmware updates.

Then again, as far as a camera phone, in general, it does a decent job. Playing around with the Exposure Levels, and tapping the screen to give the camera a focus point seem to help the pictures out... I still need to play with it more at different lighting levels though.
