Root Rooting EVO for EXTREME DUMMIES

Hey guys and gals, been lurking for a while and have finally decided to root my evo. I mainly I just was to remove bloatware and free up memory until I feel comfortable flashing custom rom. I my problem is that all the tutorials I read are way over my head. The I've done all these things on blackberries, but it just seems more difficult with this device/os. I I have read at least a dozen sets ofbinstructions, all of which differ, and downloaded a bunch of programs to aid in the process. The one time I felt comfortable rooting the program of choice just got stuck for like 2 hours and I thought I bricked me phone. I so my question is, in your experience, who has the easiest to fo/ow instructions on rooting for my purposes. From I want to be able to remove bloatware and save some system apps to sd. I I know this question has been asked to death, and you inclination is to paste a link with instructions, but i need this broken down barney style. The please respond if you can help.

I hate to dissuade anyone from rooting. But honestly, if you can't follow the directions that have already been put up, you probably shouldn't root your phone. Because the process to fix a broken rooted phone are *WAY* more complicated, and there is *no way* to dumb those directions down.

So either have someone root the phone for you and be prepared to not have a phone for a while if you break it. Or just take some time and learn all the jargon. It will definitely be worth the time spent. Good luck.

The Dummies Guide we have here is the absolute best. Just ask us what you don't understand and we will be glad to help. It is very easy to root following the instructions. But as sdrawkcab25 said if you need it broke down anymore then you should get someone to do it for you.

The problem with someone doing it for you is that if you have an issue later you have no idea what you are doing to get it fixed. My suggestion is to read and reread the guides and ask questions so that you understand. It seems more complicated than it really is. We are here to help so feel free to ask.

Love the thread title lol. Got a quick laugh. Like everyone already said read read read but in the end the only way to understand the best is to just do it. Once you get the process started all the reading will make sense

just be careful with youtube videos. they are not always up to date. i know seeing sometimes help but i think that the guides here is a lot easier to use. really the process is fairly simple to do. and like others have said read this guide: http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...ooting-dummies-guide-gingerbread-edition.html. just read from head to toe and then read it some more.

also we are here for you so please utilize this forum and ask as much questions until you feel comfortable enough to root your phone. main thing is to be patient and learn as much as you can before attempting to root.

I agree, stay away form Youtube videos. They cause just as many problems from being outdated than they solve.

I had no clue what I was doing when I rooted. You dont really need to understand the whys to what your doing, all you need to do is follow the steps and you'll be done in 15-20 mins.

I've tried using the rooting guide for dummies, but the first file it asks you to dl takes me to a page that has no dl, and I have no idea how to back up my evo with paying a monthly service, even though I have an external hard drive

ok backing up your phone is only just a precaution. but here is what you can back up:
1.your contacts should be saved under google and not phone. this will save your contacts on google's cloud. and what is cool is that if you get another phone your contacts can be ported when you sign your phone into google. if you do not have this setup then you can either manually switch each contact to google or just use mybackup pro to make a copy of it on your sd card.
2.your texts messages. most of apps can save and move your messages to the card. and if not then mybackup pro can do that as well.
3.your pictures are on your card so they are safe.
4.your apps can be backed up sort of. there is an app called applist backup in the market that creates a list of your apps for you so that once you are rooted or whatever, you can use the app to reinstall your apps from the makrket. it does not save data, unfortunately.

and as far as the htc driver file goes. i made a megaupload for you. so here is the link:HTCDriver3.0.0.007.exe

you can try again and use a different browser but that link should just automatically download the driver for you.
