[Verizon] Add Modifcations Guide?

All, i'm hoping somebody could guide me through the process of adding modifications to a custom build rom...

i'm in the process of upgrading from zygot3 to his latest release axiom 2.1 which contains deodex (what does that mean?) but would like to add the following modification:

CDMA 1% Battery with/without Search Key and Soft Key Colors

I read through this link below:

but I don't see a guide or step by step process on how to actually make these modifications...

on a side note what is this 1% battery referring to?

Deodexed roms allow devs to easily replace files within apk files the drawback is deodexed files are potentially larger than the respective odexed files and initial boot is quicker on odexed roms compared to deodexed roms which has to do with creation of dalvik cache. If you are not trying to dev or theme just knowing what you have flashed on your phone should be enough knowledge

You will need to flash the zip for the mod in recovery. Before flashing make a nandroid backup then wipe dalvik cache. You will choose to flash the zip just like when you go to flash a rom. Once it is flashed reboot and enjoy. If you do not like the mod then you can restore the nandroid you made. The only thing you do different when flashing a theme compared to a rom is you do not wipe all partitions when flashing a theme since it is just replacing some files that are already on the phone.

So helpful! So basically just flash the zip file (after backing up) but only wipe dalvik cache? So is it basically just overwriting parts of the rom to actually load this modification?

Is it possible just to install the battery % with changing the button colors? I suppose you don't lose any of your apps or system data with mods do you?

you've got the install down. you are overwriting a small portion of the ROM by loading the mod but you will not lose any apps or system data. if you only want the battery %, choose any of the "white softkey" files from the thread you linked in your first post. since the stock ones are white, you won't notice a difference.

OK makes sense, what is it referring to when the link references zygots and axoin's as an example? I don't have to restore the UI or anything prior to this mod do I?

it means that those mods will only work with this ROM:

|ROM| AXI0M 2.1 | LKEXP V2 KERNEL |12/26/2011| - RootzWiki

previously known as Zygot3, the dev has now changed the name to Axi0m as of version 2.0. you should not need to restore or wipe anything other than dalvik cache as long as you are using that ROM.

Thanks SO, also thought the blue keys were cool!! White Smooth keys were cool too. It was a 'bold' version of the stock. I really like bouncing back and forth.

no problem. i really wish i could figure out what he did with the ones for any 4.0.3 base other than Zygot3/Axi0m. i originally used them on 4.0.3 Bugless Beast but it looks like he has since deleted them. the 4.0.2 ones got a seperate thread, but the other 4.0.3 ones seem to have disappeared completely.

i'm one of those super picky people with it comes to my homescreens/layout....

I think white keys would bother me b/c of I like how the gray matches the framed in google bar and the gray breaker line above the bottom dock...

sounds crazy but I love things matching... I really wish there was a 4 icon option, gray, and had the battery percentage!!!! beggers can't be choosers

that is the exact reason i chose to use blue. they match the battery icon/clock/status bar.
