i love this phone but reception is horrible. barely ever am showing bars and always in the -120 dBm range. sometimes no data or voice.. i am going to exchange phone for another one this weekend hoping i just got a "bad one". if not, there is really nothing that i want that is available. iPhone 4s is nice but just cant see going from this phone and Droid X , down to that tiny little screen... frustrated:(

Had the same problem. Downloaded LTE Switch from the market and turned on CDMA only and now have a consistent solid 3G signal strength. Havent lost data since. Not 4G speeds, but at least I have consistent data now. On the fence about sticking with this phone too. Love so many things about it, but signal strength and poor camera are killing it for me.

I'm getting very pissed off going from 4G to 3G to grey bars to nothing.

C'Mon now verizon WTF!!!!!!!!!!

Or is it this phone?

It's not the phone. It's been happening to many people all across the country. It's a network issue and in some cases it might be a software issue and it's relationship with the network. ICS is still new. I want to give it more time before I call it a dud for sure.

We have until the 15th of January to return the phone. I am hoping it gets worked out cuz I love the phone but am tired of the data issues and because of this, now battery issues. I am considering an iPhone now which I never thought I would do, but don't want the Rezound or Razr either.
Why are a lot of people still stating they are having no issues with data connection on this phone if it is in fact a Verizon problem? IS it the phone or is it NOT the phone?..:mad:

No, it is the phone. I love my gnex, but there is no question my og droid got way better 3G. (No LTE til summer here.)

I had the same issue and I returned mine yesterday. Been running my Bionic on the newest firmware and I have lost data once since yesterday as opposed to so many times I can barely count with my GNEX. My friend went through two phones before he settled on the DROID RAZR and he said it is a vast improvement.

have you tried flashing the 4.0.3 baseband?

I was running 4.0.3 but it doesn't change the radios so it doesn't make a difference with the signal. There was some leaked radio firmware but it makes the phone worse.

The LTE switch does what you can do under Network settings where you pick CDMA/LTE or CDMA only. I switched my phone to CDMA only (also live in a 3G area only) and it did me no good.

I won't deny the Verizon network is having issues but it has literally been night and day in my case since I went back to my Bionic. I would love to give it more time if I had a spare line for a phone that barely works at times but I do not. Like I said in another thread, if the phone is as BA as we want to believe, then returning it now and trying it out a few months later won't hurt. Or trying the next best thing. You only have so many chances to get me to spend 300 bucks and sign on for two years.

Some have been saying that the network issues were only affecting phones that were 3G capable. So even if you were only in a 3G area and not on 4G your 4G phone may still experience issues. I do not believe it the case with this phone however. I think a large amount (as in more than just a few) have horrible signal issues.

Yeah, as much as i wanted to keep the phone (believe me, i wanted to keep this phone!) it just did not work for me. Had it for 6 days and had ZERO data for 90% of the time.

All day long at work, zero. At my house, zero. Went online and switched back to my Droid X and was back in business at both places!

It has to work as a fully functioning phone FIRST and one can live with the other issues until they get ironed out.

Also, the deal breakers were the sound volume (volume+ just made the speaker distort), and the less than great camera. Let a couple of peeps at work play with the camera and they both sheepishly shook their heads..........lol. Also, as great as the screen is, i hated how it would not show white as white............only light grey! BIG difference side by side with other phones. Oh well..........

Each to their own and i honestly hope the phone works for you :) Waiting on the next best phone.........by then maybe VZW will have a functioning network or i switch to someone else ?????

I just don't understand for the people that had no data whatsoever, even in CDMA only mode, don't try a replacement before going to another phone. That type of device behavior isn't typical, even among those complaining about weak signal levels.

Exactly...............there is no 4G in my area yet. I was comparing it on 3G. Went into settings and changed to CDMA only with absolutely no change :(

Called VZW and they tried to find the issue but no luck. Very hard to use any phone that performs like that................ wish the heck it would work :(

A quick question since it was mentioned in a reply.

What does it mean when the bars go grey? I've seen that a few times. I thought it was just a normal thing. Because I've seen it have a few bars but their grey instead of Blue. Since it still had bars showing i can't figure out what it mean?

By the way: I'm one of those that isn't having a problem. Maybe in weak areas my phone won't be as good as my t-bolt was but very little difference.
