The best place to get started will be in the forum for your specific device model. Just select it from the list on the Home Page and you should be fine. In each device forum there is a section on rooting. If you can't find it, then tell us what you've got and we'll point you in the right direction.

I have the latest update (with the ring pull unlock screen). Can i still root, as no forum i have found has been recent enough?

The latest update for the HD is 2.3.5 with Sense 3.0. From what I've read it is possible to root this version. If the instructions you have are unclear for this version you should check with the members in Desire HD - All Things Root - Android Forums about which will work with your version.

I really don't know. I don't have an HD. And every phone is a little different. Please check with the folks in the rooting forum linked above. They will know for sure.

Hi tobyfry8 - welcome to the forums!

I am pretty sure that you should be able to use the one click tool in the first link that was provided. From memory, the hack kit will downgrade your phone as part of the process of rooting, so you would loose data (all possible to back up).

Head over to the All Things Root section of the DHD once you've read the manual for the hack kit and we'll be able to help you out if you need anything!
