Help Phone storage getting low...

I've been having this issue with my phone since I got it about a year ago. My husband had the same phone (it got washed so he no longer uses it) and never had this issue and my father has the same phone, does not have the issue either.

I'm told my internal phone storage is full so texts don't come in and updates don't often happen. I move every app I can to my SD card, I clear my cache fairly often, and don't keep a lot of photos or texts on my phone so there's no real reason this should be happening. Can anyone shed some light on this issue?

I don't have a backup phone or money for a new one, otherwise I'd root it and delete the stupid apps I don't use like Where, Point, etc.

The OV has a very very low amount of internal space. Apps take up internal space even when moved to the SD card. Basically the only way to fix is to root your phone and use Link2SD or just delete some apps/text messages etc. Other than that there isn't much you can do.

I was afraid of that. I may just suck it up and root it if that's the case.

My decision to root was purely because of a lack of space and there were a number of apps I had that could not be moved to SD without rooting. First thing I did when I rooted was to delete the preinstalled bloatware.

Shortly after I rooted I wrote a tutorial for Link2SD, with this script you're able to move virtually everything to the SD and have gobs of internal space. At one point I had over 150apps installed and 80 or 90 megs of internal space.

I have now installed a custom ROM and have far few apps and don't use Link2SD mostly because I don't have as many apps installed. I keep most of my lesser used apps uninstalled but in Titanium Backup, if I need one of those apps I just restore the backup used it and back it up again then uninstall it.

There are also plenty of users here on the forum who are not rooted and manage, melim, 350x and thorsten are three that pop to mind right away.

Just do a factory reset. Set your phone back to its original state like when it was new and had the max amount of memory available.

Backup anything important like your contacts before you do the reset. If you use gmail then that is not an issue cuz google will sync them back into your phone when you reenter your account name and password.

Reactivate the phone then update the most common used apps like google maps. Add back some of your favorite apps and you are good to go.

Just download the free app "easy cache cleaner". When your phone storage gets low, before your phone lets you know, this app makes you aware that there is space to be freed.

Yep, a cache cleaner and App Tyrant to back up apps to your card & then you can easily uninstall/reinstall ones you don't use a lot, so they're only using space when you need them.

I know I'm going to get flak for recommending a one-click rooting solution but IMO the stock ROM is very good out of the box and if you're just looking to make more room on the phone, I suggest using Gingerbreak to gain root, use TiBu to backup your apps and settings, and use a partitioning tool to create a second FAT32 partition as explained elsewhere. Then use Link2SD to move your apps. Personally I would only move the ones that are marked as "movable" unless for some compelling reason a non-movable app needs to be punted over to SD (such as Google Reader and its huge data footprint). I actually used this method on a LG Ally which also suffers from a lack of internal space.

Link2SD doesn't have the same limitations that the built in App2SD has as far as what can be moved. On my Optimus V, I moved almost all user-installed apps (I think I had over 100 apps at the time) to SD with Link2SD, including the updated Google Maps and updated Gmail, etc..

The only app I ever had an issue with was the new version of Swype, likely because it is a keyboard app and therefore likely has to load early in the boot process, but moving it back to the phone fixed the issue. (FYI: You have to uninstall the stock version of Swype before installing the new version from the Swype web site, in case you are interested in the new version, which is very nice.)

So, my recommendation is to move all apps to SD with Link2SD, then, if any have issues, which should be very rare, move those particular apps back. You should easily end up with over 100.Meg free app space on the phone, even with 100+ apps installed.

i should root mine too anybody know the easyiest way? i tryed the easy apk way i forgot the name of the program but it didnt let me do the exploit. vm update damn them it happend before i even got the phone.

I believe the current method if you have the newest patch is the gordita root. I would look through the sticky in the all things root sub-forum.

The exploit you will need is the gordita exploit. It has been put in a one click method that you can find in the All Things Root Guide sub-forum. It's the first one under Root Exploits.
