Hello - don't know if this is an appropriate question or not but...

I am in financial difficulty and I can't afford to pay Sprint any longer and I can't pay my termination fee for a while. They will be shutting me down shortly. I purchased a really cheap Tracfone for calls and texts. Can I still use my Sprint HTC Evo Shift on WiFi without doing anything really complicated like "rooting" it (don't even know what that means). Hope this is an appropriate question. Thanks

As long as you don't have to give the phone back to them, then yes, you can use it as wi-fi only.

That was quick! Thanks so much. Its my phone. In fact, I've paid for it twice. Once for the original phone and once for $100 refurbished model under the so called "insurance" plan.

Yeah, I understand. I just wasn't sure about the contract terms. I know once you buy a phone on a 2 year subsidy, you have to keep that contract for the full 2 years or pay a fee. I wasn't sure if you had fulfilled the terms of the contract or if you hadn't, what happens when you can't pay the bills and they cut the service off? Not sure about that one.

But to answer the general question of can you use a cell phone on wifi without cellular service, yes.
