On a scale of 1 to 10, just how good is this phone going to be?

If 1 is the worst phone on the market and 10 is the best phone on the market, where on the scale would the HTC Evo V fall?

The announcement seems to be getting a good reaction from the people here, but some people I've spoken to elsewhere seem to think it's not very good.

Well, imo HTC is a good phone manufacturer, and Evo's are good as well, but it is probably more of an opinion as to how each person would rate it, based on their preferences, and needs in a cell phone.

Like it was stated HTC and Evo's have a good reputation, but there are a ton of factors. Where you live (WiMax or not/decent 3g speeds or horrible ones) will have a big impact. If they decided to make many changes to it for VM or not will matter as well. As of now, there isn't much to go on.

Keep in mind that (spec-wise) it is better than the phones VM is currently offering, but in comparison to high end (or even higher mid-range phones) it doesn't compare anymore.

I just hope it has better battery life than the first HTC EVO 4G. That's my one regret. That, and the extra charge by Sprint for "4G" that doesn't work well and cuts in and out.

Yes but WiMax radios are notorious for piss poor battery life, it's such a small market that it requires a separate radio just for WiMax. Unlike 4G LTE which is included in SOC design. And to get back on topic, even today in my opinion the Evo 3D is still a solid 8. HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S3, especially the international version with quad core Tegra 2 definitely being 10's.
