nexus- razr maxx - nexus

So verizon swapped out the nexus and sent me a razr maxx. I was told I could keep them both a few days and decide which to keep. well razr maxx is currently no text or data. has frozen several times and had to do a hard reset (power and down button) also factory data reset is not fixing these issue. I went to the verizon store and they just say call the 800 number. Only common demon is refurbished phones. everything has been swappped sim card, batteries and all.

LUckily i have the nexus at home.... think I will deal with the battery life after all this. main problems were email excahnge not working (so guess 3rd party it is) and the battery life. Guess I will always have to have extra battery with me and possible looking into a charger pack that holds a charge for you when needed.

Also if i accept the razr maxx verizon is not likely to give me any other options. So I am going to hold on the nexus and see what happens with battery or see what comes out that verizon will swap for. i can be very convincing. muahhhhhh

given this is one razr maxx compared to 3 nexus. but overall nexus never crashed, i never lost text and useage except for dead battery. and ICS is a dream compared to this motoblur crap!

The Maxx is certainly a beast. But after living with a locked bootloader and Blur, I could never go back.

i have lived with a locked bootloader, didnt bother me much, i dont care much for kernels as i dont really overclock, or undervolt a phone.

i have owned the nexus, and am not happy with the one way mic bug, i would rather have a phone that works, than a phone that is fully customizable

Definitely sounds like a buggy MAXX. It's kind of ironic that it's clearly the Nexus which has more variation in quality, and yet you got a bad MAXX. My Nexus thankfully is near perfect.. Only reboots after using Wifi tether. And less than stellar LTE reception.

Sometimes I wonder that the first return goes through only a minor check before being ok'd to return to service, and only after a second return (or more) does it get checked thoroughly , because there are so many bad CPO phones.

For now keeping the nexus just because if I accept the Max from verizon I leave myself closed later for a courtesy upgrade.

Probably was just a bad Max but I tell ya u love the form factor of the nexus and straight ics . Not liking the motoblur. Or the wasted space on front of device not filled with screen. But just a opinion. Just like form of nexus better.

I almost went with the razr when I got my nexus orig.

Just glad verizon is trying to help.

Oh and the exchange just decided to work again on nexus! So that leaves only bad thing to me is battery.

So going to carry extra battery see how that works.

I recently bought a Maxx after 3 tries with the nexus. Signal is much better, battery lasts about 3x longer, nice and smooth with no bugs or hiccups or keyboard lag. I am using launcher pro so I don't have to put up with full blown blur. The screen is pretty good but nowhere near the nexus. My biggest problem with it is the form factor and appearance. The giant MOTOROLA and VERIZON on the front annoy me to no end and the nexus just looks and feels so much nicer than the maxx imo.

I was 50/50 on whether to keep the Maxx and ditch the nexus but I rooted the nexus over the weekend and a couple of my problems are now gone. Most likely I will put up with the battery and signal and keep it at least for a little while. I just wish this phone lived up to its potential.

I went from a gnex to a razr maxx for about 2 weeks. I loved the battery life but blur is sh*t imo. I had never owned a motorola device until the maxx due to people complaining about their motorolas being laggy and unreliable. The maxx isn't that bad but its not nearly as smooth as the gnex. I also REALLY missed the recent apps button, the HD screen, and the feel of the gnex after going to the maxx. The gnex does have its problems and it isn't nearly as good as my sprint Galaxy S 2 but it's the best phone on verizon hands down.

So far with deciding to keep nexus I downloaded juice defender and normally at 11 my phone would be dead. Today 46% left!!!!!

Exchange started working again but no idea why.

So all in all looking up!

I have both devices.

I like the feel in hand of the Gnex better. Screen is a tad nicer, but that's about it.

When it comes to reception, and battery life, hands down the Maxx wins. Its really up to you and what you want out of a device. But by no means is a Maxx a pos.

It seems like a lot of the early adopters of the SGN VZW that used to post here are now posting in a maxx camera thread in the maxx forum here.

It's like a freaky reunion of some sorts! I think that when I hit 60 days of a broken SGN, I called them, turbo'd to a supervisor and he almost immediately recommended a swap to the MAXX.

Get whatever you are happy with. I'm assuming any of the issues were bone stock, and you tried a factory reset and the non-installation of some apps to check for stability.

As many people across the web have reported, Samsung appears to have a problem with their hardware radios/antenna so that they only work in strong signal strength areas. They will not admit the problem.

I will never buy a Samsung phone again unless/until they fix this issue. Because of this I have no interest in the S3 or any other Samsung product until this is publicly addressed and corrected.

I am tired of waiting for the software update that may or may not fix the signal strength issue/dropped calls with this phone as well as the poor battery life. I am planning to make a trade for a RAZR Maxx next week.

Any drawbacks?

I just got my 3rd G Nex two days ago with a new sim card....Still garbage reception.

I had a friend come over last night with a RAZR Maxx...he stayed around the mid -90dbm mark for signal with 4G the whole time....i stayed at my normal -120 with nothing on my G Nex. ...he was there for about 20 minutes and held the signal the entire time.


The problem is i'm not sure i really like the form factor of the RAZR MAXX...but as i have already learned with this G Nex..i need a phone to be a phone first. I don't care what it looks like.

Today has been a crappy day. I think I am now a member of the "I hate Verizon" club. Last night I started the process of requesting a replacement device for my second Galaxy Nexus. It started out respectful, but ended with me dissatisfied with the reps offer of a standard Droid Razr in exchange for my Nexus. Today I received a call back from that CSR's supervisor and all I can say is, that guy was a total jerk. Very condescending and completely uncaring about me as a customer.

I won't spill the gory details, but suffice to say I have another Galaxy Nexus on the way. The ONLY other device they would swap me is the Droid Razr. I was told multiple times that the Razr Maxx is not a comparable device to the Galaxy Nexus, rather a step above the Galaxy Nexus. He absolutely would not budge. Over and over he restated his claim that I was the one being unreasonable because I wouldn't accept his offer to help put me in a different phone.

I explained to him that the Droid Razr actually has a smaller battery than the Galaxy Nexus and it is non replaceable. That I know 4G sucks the battery and I need to be able to replace the battery or have the Razr Maxx in order for it to be an even swap. He told me the problem with the Galaxy Nexus is software from Samsung and it is not Verizon's problem and that he is not required to replace my device with anything other than a Galaxy Nexus.

Round and round we went and then he noticed we have an upgrade available on our second line and he suggested that I use that to get a Razr Maxx. What!?!?!? Use my upgrade to replace a faulty device that you should be replacing as part of good faith to your customer? That got me fired up.

Then he had the nerve to say he would do something for me that he has not done for anyone else...ever. For a fee he would be willing to "upgrade" me do the Razr Maxx. I said, so you now have your hand in my pocket, trying to get me to pay more money for a phone when I already paid the premium subsidized price for the Galaxy Nexus...which does not work properly. This guy's offer is to charge me more money to swap for Razr Maxx that a) was priced the same as the Galaxy Nexus on launch day, and b) still costs the same today...either retail or with a 2 year contract.

The last brilliant exchange I had with this guy (and for some reason he was seriously peacocking afterward, like he made a slam dunk on me) he asked me how much money I paid for the extra GNex battery and cradle/charger with the Y-cable. His point was that by my spending at least and extra $30 for the charger and extra battery, it PROVES his point that the Razr Maxx is a superior device because it does not require having an extra battery or charger to get through the day. ARE YOU FREAKIN' KIDDING ME?

I'm so mad right now I could spit fire. So it looks like I'll be getting a new Galaxy Nexus each month until I get one that works. Since I'm going to lose all my photos, videos, music and downloads on my current GNex, I guess I should bite the bullet and unlock and root the damn new Nexus when it comes. I know this is just going to be a giant waste of time and inventory.

I think this whole mess could have been avoided with a different CSR manager. I don't understand how some of you were able to get them to swap Razr Maxx's when they wouldn't do it for me.

Okay, now I'll say it so you guys and gals don't have to. WAH, WAH, WAH!!!

I think most people with major signal/reboot/battery issues would be happier with the maxx. My issues with the nexus weren't major and there were some improvements after rooting and going to 4.0.4 so I switched back from the maxx.

I should have been more clear. Since I'm going to be sending my current device back, I'll want to restore/wipe my phone. I guess my point was, I haven't seriously considered unlocking/rooting as a last resort since I have 5 months of media stored on it. With a new device, I'll be starting from scratch. I'll definitely back up.

I need to read up on what to do. I'm not too thrilled with the terror I'll be dealing with!

Red it's easy just to get your media off of your device. It literally takes 2 minutes. Pretty much drag and drop. make a folder on your PC. Copy your media from you sd partition of your gnex into the folder you made. when you get the new g nex reverse the method.

I know it sux about the Rep but just try and be patient. It really comes down to whomever you talk to. For me i don't really have to have the MAXX so i probably won't even ask for one but i understand your situation may need you to have more juice on hand and that is totally fine. I found a really, REALLY easy to follow "How to Root a Razor Maxx" video on YouTube. Do you know if there is a similar video tutorial for G-Nex? I know I can search for one myself, but if there is one that comes highly recommended I'd be interested in the tip. I've read through the different written instructions, but some of the terminology is making it hard for me to follow.

yeah the terminology is kind of hard to follow at first, at least it was for me. I think Droid-Life had a video in their G Nex how to section but it was from like the first or second day the device was launched so i'm not sure how up to date it is.
