Help Cached album artwork

Hi Guys

First post here so go easy...

I have been playing around with different media players on my galaxy s2 (using mix zing and the default player). I am unhappy with some of the album images some artwork grabber apps download (very pixelated etc). Therefore I have started adding my own images to each individual album folder. This would work great for me except when you then go into the galaxy's gallery ALL individual artworks show up (making the gallery very messy because the phone collates all .jpg's found on the phone).

However, when I delete these from the phone's gallery the artwork still appears. Therefore the images must be cached somewhere but I cannot find where. I'm more than happy to use this method. I would just like to see the file so I can track the amount of storage they are using. I can't find them on the phones storage, or my 32Gig Micro SD?

Does anyone know where these cached images are stored?

Hello and welcome to Android Forums AndroidAlex!

Try the following...

/sdcard/Android/data/cooliris.media

You could download, free from the Market, OI File Manager. Use this to navigate to the folders that contain the images that you do not wish to appear in Gallery and then select Menu > Exclude from media scan. It then creates a file entitled .nomedia. You can do this manually yourself if you do not wish to use OI File Manager.

This ensures that that files contents are then hidden from the Gallery.

Thanks so much for your help. I followed your path to /sdcard/Android/data/cooliris.media - and I now think the cached artwork images are stored in "hires*image*cache" - I wouldn't mind trying to delete this cache to verify...do you know if this is safe at all?

Also, I'm going to try what you suggested with OI File manager(thanks for that pointer). However, if I set the .nomedia file within each album will it also not let me access my .m4a's as well? Would be easy if I could set a .nojpg...one can wish.

You can safely delete the whole cooliris file as it will be re-built at the next boot-up.

Sorry, I see your point about the music. Don't know what to suggest.

I generally add my own album art. I used to have each album in different folders, with its own album art, but now I've decided to have each band in its own folder instead. So I set my windows folder options to display hidden files and protected files, and search my sd card for all .jpg files, and removed all the .jpg files relating to album art. I then created a picture for each folder, calling it folder.jpg and copied these in.

But the phone still uses pictures that no longer exist on my phone as album art, and not the ones I've created. I don't have the folder /sdcard/Android/data/cooliris.media

The fix was to go into SETTINGS > APPLICATIONS > MANAGE APPLICATIONS > ALL

Then find "Media Storage"

Clear Data

Then reboot the phone. Give it a few minutes to read the SD card properly, then open the music application and just wait for the library to be rebuilt. Worked great for me.

I have a Samsung Galaxy 3, and i was able to refresh the album art
by deleting all files in the directory
Dieser PC\GT-I8190\Phone\Android\data\com.android.providers.media\albumthumbs
and then rebooting the phone.

Hey, I'm very particular about my music set up! It has to have a pic, even if it's nit the proper album cover, as long as it pertains to that artist or the song. I use itag (great app) to edit my music and I had a pic of the artist as the album artwork. I figured out the album title finally and changed it, got the proper album art, but then random songs had the original pic of the artist and it DID NOT match!

I found this forum and read how u solved the problem! It worked perfectly thank you so much! My music is back to normal!!!
