Just wondering if anybody in the UK has noticed that when using the News Widget on their phone, the UK news topic now shows news from the US?? Hopefully, it is not just me......

It has only happened since today.

Not that I have anything against our American friends but I couldn't care less about what is currently happening in New Jersey ;)

I've clear both cache and data from the app and the damn thing is still giving me info I couldn't give a **** about!

I looked on the Google Phone website (the support, issues pissing you off bit!) & this was mentioned by numerous people (basically, everybody outside the States!).

There is a workaround - create a custom news topic (e.g. UK not U.K. like as standard), exit out to the weather app & force a refresh or let it do it automatically. Hey presto, more local news :D

Can you translate please? ;)
he asked about...

Merkins taking over again, and some think there's nowt us little nations can do about it...
Merkins = Americans....There is another meaning for "merkin" (Pubic Wig), see
merkin - Wiktionary
.

taking over again = a behaviour that aforementioned nation is considered, by a huge proportion of the earth's population, to favour for so very much.. .. i.e. just as the British Empire was viewed by many in the late 19th Century, the Merkins are viewed by many as seeming to think they can do what they like, where they like, when they like.

little nations = most of the rest of the world, outwith the USofA

This is of course not universally true as there are many excellent & admirable Americans: And some good bits of American Governments (cf other countries, discuss....)

NB My father was liberated from a German PoW camp by Americans after 4 yrs as A Hitler's guest: I spent most of my working life working for American companies, with Americans. Like most nations there are unattractive characteristics exhibited by some citizens...

Pause for flames... Pot, kettle remarks etc...

Cheers!

It's all news topics that are being pulled from US sites, I think. No more <insert random unknown scottish town here> Gazette for me! Which is a good thing in a way, but is a little annoying to see all my sci/tech news coming from America.

Yes, a lot of the sci/tech sites in America have more news than your average Brit sites (and no more annoying ITProPortal, YAY! So annoying having the first cm of text at the left cut off), but it's all "Oooh, Verizon this, AT&T that" and I. Just. Don't. Care.

Sigh.

Sorry, artful, the calcutta cup is ours!
- who do you mean by "ours" -

Errr... me mum was born in Brazil (so I qualify for the Brazilian football team..), I was born in Engerland, but my Dad considered himself Welsh (but born in Old Kent Road) - brought up welsh speaking in London and thus considered me Welsh, but I've lived in Scotland & my youngest lad played Rugby at London Scottish... so in sporting competitions I have at least 4 countries I support... but did see Scotland win the Calcutta Cup a few years ago at Murrayfield...

Cheers! (Ah, but for whom??)
