Apple trying to get S3 banned

I knew it was just matter of time. They are going after HTC One series as well. I think they are kind of indirectly admitting that iPhone can't compete just based on the technologies. So they are going all out with lawsuits.

I was a little surprised Sammy didn't change the home button design for US versions like before. Apparently they were expecting this to come, so they might have some cards for legal fights with apple.

Funny thing is apple is no longer going after Samsung for "looking to much like an iphone" but more for these other patents. I really think apple is feeling the heat with how well the gs2, and note sold and how well the sgs3 is already doing for preorders. yes apple will sell a ton of their new iphones b/c the same people will buy it that bought the other ones, but they really don't have anything that they can say look at this and get it over that super android.

Yes, they also know that there's 9million people NOT buying the upcoming iphone 4S+.

Seems public opinion is against Apple on this, they are even getting a bit of a kicking on engadget, even their customers seem to think this is just dumb. The Verge comments are pretty negative too.
When it starts hurting their bottom line they might think twice.

It may be wishful thinking but I think Apple are on the wane, Jobs gone, Cook is not as enigmatic, we need to wait for WWDC but it doesn't seem that they have any big things coming (bar mapping, which google has stolen their thunder on). No new iphone for a while and ultimately it doesn't really matter because we'll see the software at WWDC. 4S was a bit of a flop really, "new" ipad was the same to a lesser extent.
Just seems their momentum is slowing and its becoming less "hip" to own their stuff.

You know when apple announces their new map service it will be revolutionary and they will sue everyone else for it, and the isheep will blindly follow, believing what is "marketed" without looking into it for themselves. I used to like apple for what they did and the products they made but lately, I just can't support them.

Thats what I'm saying though, if you read the comments there are people saying stuff like "I hate android but I think Apple are being stupid" or "I was pondering waiting for the iphone for get the S3, Apple just made my mind up to order the S3" or people who have a big investment in Apple stuff (macbook, ipohone, ipad) who are criticizing Apple.

I think some of the sheep are waking up.

You know something is wrong when the iphone fanboys are saying that it is wrong. Apple is only hurting themselves with this continued litigation.

There are still a few fan boys posting:

"The S-voice thing is clearly a rip off and whoever keeps supporting a company that keeps blatantly copying the big man, should be ashamed."

Yeah, cause my primary concern when buying a device is whether its copied anything else...NOT

:D

I might agree with the S-voice thing, except for the fact that S Voice is an integrated feature using Vlingo's servers. Essentially, it is the Vlingo app built specifically for S3, with minor upgrades from the original app. This is probably how Samsung is able to skirt around the very, broad Siri patent.

I think you will find Siri is the rip Off
The S3 S2 and Note have there Voice software powered by Vlingo who hold there patent on this and its available on Apple as well so if Apple push this Vlingo will be getting interested in this
Plus Siri is in Beta so as its not a registered App the Tuff

I could be wrong but I think Vlingo is just the voice recognition software. Samsung is the one that has made Vlingo work with Wolfram Alpha and other services so that it provides Siri-like responses!

Clearly Apple can't stop people from using Wolfram Alpha, but when Samsung packages everything into a similar piece of software to Siri, that's when they start to take notice.

To be honest, I think every company copies from each other and these lawsuits are silly. I would imagine that other companies sue just as often as Apple, it just doesn't make the news.

Stop hating on Apple they are one of the most profitable companies in the US and even though those profits and success come from suing other companies for stupid shit that makes no sense whatsoever and are stupid we should have respect for being such idiots.....

If my S3 gets delay for this.... Apples CEOs gonna get clapped in the face several times

I don't blame Apple, or any company for that matter, for protecting their patents, but I am so ready for all this crap to end. Steve Jobs was hell bent on getting Samsung to stop copying the "look and feel" of the iPhone. Well, he got his wish. Only problem for Apple is, Samsung has made a phone that blows the iPhone out of the water! Don't think Jobs anticipated that.

And as long as Samsung keeps pushing the limits of mobile tech, they will continue to get my money, instead of Apple. I'll keep sticking with Mac computers though.

Apple is really being stupid. I have voice command capability when I was using my WinMo phone. Apple did not invent it. They only polished and repackaged the functionality, that's all.

As I have said it before, you don't see Mercedes suing Lexus for copying them back then when Lexus started, right? Instead, they continue to innovate. That is the right approach in my humble opinion. Apple continues to choose the courtroom route because they cannot compete.

Frankly, Apple's attempt to ban the GS3 will actually help the pre-ordering of this phone. People will try to get their hands on this phone as soon as they can. The pre-ordering is going to break another record.

S-Voice is just an updated version of Vlingo with more commands, Vlingo was included on the Galaxy S2 on launch long before the iPhone 4s was released.

So I don't get it, why now?

It now uses wolfram alpha to answer queries and attempts to use natural language to fulfil requests eg: "I want to call mum"

I don't think there is a good basis for a lawsuit to be honest, but S voice is a little bit more similar to Siri than previous Vlingos.

However, I think companies worthy of any respect would be trying to get paid for the use of their IP rather than seeking an outright ban on competing products.

Apple is a scumbag company and tries to compete through the courtroom rather than by decent products.
