The Official "I got mine" thread.

And the wifi connection problem is back this evening. Says I'm out of range, but I'm sitting right next to the router. Hmmm...not sure why it would only do this late at night.

ETA: Erm. I fiddled with advanced wifi settings and nothing worked. Then I turned on Mobile Network, and immediately I got wifi back again, 54 Mbps signal strength. Not sure why this worked? Shouldn't I be able to maintain a wifi connection even when Mobile Network is turned off? It seems to do that just fine during the day.

I have this problem too. This may mean its a software fix, something they'll get to sooner than later I hope. I fixed by rebooting, and it picked up my wifi router instantly.

WOOT WOOT!! Picked mine up yesterday from the local RS in Redlands, CA. It took about an hour to activate. When I called. VM they had to switch my plan to the $35 one and once that was done, I went online and activated it thru the website. I made sure both the Evo V 4G and my POS Triumph were turned off when I did it. I completed the activation on the website and re-booted the Evo. It did the hands-free activation thing and was up & running!

This is an AWESOME PHONE!! Definitely worth it! Bye-bye Triumph, Hello wonderful new world of having a REAL phone!!

I got mine yesterday morning at radioshack in bradenton, FL and LOVE it.

I tried to change plan and swap phones online and of course it didn't work, I called and the guy had me "setup" in 15 minutes then transferred me to someone else to program the phone, I just hung up. Turned off old phone, turned on new EVO and failed programming, restarted phone and it worked, restarted one more time updated PRL and about 10 minutes later data was working. Maybe I just lucked out :p

AWESOME phone though! I'm coming from an optimus V and the difference is surreal!

**edit**
For people who are inevitably going to ask, it's Sprint branded, with just an HTC logo on the back.

Got mine delivered from Radio Shack Fed X this morning around 10 am.
Im on the last days of my boost plan and wanted a new number so I activated mine through the web site, got a new number, and sat back for an hour and sipped on my coffee for about 45 mins. I was in no rush to turn it on cause ive been playing with my girls phone for the past 4 days. Once I turned it on it did its littel thing with out me having to acticate it by pressing ##25327#, It just did everything by its own self. I went through everything and made sure everything was in working order, wifi, texting, calling, flash light, video and camera both 2d & 3d. no quirks as of yet. All in all im totally satisfied with my new phone.
P.S. Im glad to say her phone is flawless also

Pretty sure I know the answer to my own question, but I just want to double check. I just got my new Evo V tonight. I'm currently on the grandfathered $25 plan and am obviously going to need to switch to the $35 plan. My new month doesn't start until the 20th; however, if I change to the $35 plan now, am I going to lose out on the minutes that I have right now, or will I just have to pay the $10 difference now, and then pay the regular $35/month again on the 20th? Basically, I'm just wondering if my month will restart if I try to activate the phone now or not. I'm guessing that it probably will, but just wanted to check with those who have already gone through the process. Thanks for the help! :)

I ran into this...
First off, you will need to switch plans first, don't even try to activate it yet.

My plan re-upped the 27th, and I switch to the $35 plan that day. Unfortunately Virgins website decided to schedule me to switch NEXT top up. I didn't catch it at the time.

When I tried to switch it, and you will have this same issue, it will let you schedule for next top up, but even if you try and manually restart you plan, it will only restart your $25 plan. Which means you pay $25 again, lose any minutes and STILL not on the $35 plan.

When you switch you will lose your minutes. Also, when you swap the phone or account (not sure which), you will lose your voicemail messages as well.

What you do is go in and clear your voicemail messages, then schedule a plan change, verify that it is scheduled then call Virgin support and have them swap over your plan. Tell them you atre doing it because you are forced to to change your phone. If you are lucky, they will only charge you $10 or $20 more and refresh your minutes/plan. If you are unlucky, they will charge you the full $35. You can file a dispute and possibly get some back. I got sort of lucky, they said they would charge me $10, but ended up charging me $20. Whatever.

Now that your plan is set...
Turn off your new and old phone, and then go on the website and swap the phones. When it says done, then turn it on. With luck it will activate and update the PRL right away without you doing anything.

Like many though, it may fail to connect. Keep trying. Activate is in settings at the very bottom (no more app).

Got mine from a BB today. I called this morning, and they said that they had some in stock. So I just said "wtf" and canceled my preorder online and grabbed it at the store. After wrestling with error codes (i switched numbers from another company so it took a bit of troubleshooting on their part to find out exactly what was wrong) I got it working well, and I am floored! This is a very sleek and obviously well made device. If you're getting this phone, you've invested wisely!

Sleek and well made yes... But not perfect. The volume and power buttons are plastic and both can be a pain to use... Especially the power button. Drives me crazy, I have to use my nail half the time to get it the first time so I'm not pissin with it to much. also the 2d/3d slider is very sloppy. However I did notice when checking my voicemail by calling it wants me to set up a new voicemail through sprint. I could be totally wrong but I'm gonna guess that just maybe virgin will eventually switch there name to sprint. Also iPhone 4s is going to be branded sprint as well I believe from the sounds of it on virgins website.

So here's an interesting situation...just wondering if anyone else is currently encountering this: Friday morning, ran to RS and got VM HTC EVO. Was switching over my current # and account from Verizon to VM...was told activation would take anywhere from "one hour to 72 hours," and I'd know when the new phone was activated as my old Verizon phone would stop working.

Fast forward 1 hour, and old phone stops working. Does new HTC EVO work? No! It continually tries "hands free activation" upon starting, and we get nowhere. Furthermore I keep getting the dreaed Error 131 I read about on this forum.

Fast forward to now...48 hours later, I am still without a functioning HTC EVO and no working cell since Verizon is not working either. I have been on the phone with both RS Expert Service in addition to VM (California, not overseas), and after being on the phone with them for over TWO HOURS, we are still at square one. I have been told to take out the battery twice, turn off the phone for 20 minutes, look at my settings, etc, all to no avail. So after speaking with a VM supervisor yesterday, I'm told that they have placed an "expedited" message via e-mail to some "international" operations center to figure out why my phone is not working. It seems that there is "an account issue" with my phone rather than a problem with the phone itself?!? Meanwhile, I still have no phone service. All we did was transfer a phone number from Verizon to VM. Granter it was switching a 917 area code number to a 609 location, but this was never a problem in the past, and when the phone was initially activated at RS, the number was accepted. I am holding out little hope of having this resolved by the 72-hour mark tomorrow afternoon and am beginning to think I may have to switch phone numbers in order to get a functioning phone.

Anyone have any similar experiences to this with VM? So far, totally unimpressed -- especially since this could not be resolved after speaking to 4 different VM people on the phone since Friday!!

Got my Evo V on Saturday - can't believe I am buying a new phone 11 months after I got my Triumph, but going from single core 1ghz to dual core 1.2ghz is a big enough jump to warrant this upgrade. 4G at no additional cost is a huge plus.

Battery life is very impressive. The main reason is that this phone apparently is able to go to deep sleep (unlike the Triumph), so with my phone battery at 92% when I went to sleep and finding it at 90% 9 hours later was a huge surprise.

Tried out the 3D... moderately impressed - got a bit dizzy after use. Did find some yt3e videos on youtube and watched on the phone.

Also, got a Viber account and also Talkatone to use my Google Voice, so now both my inbound and outbound voice calls will be via data, no more using minutes except when I am outside data coverage. This means that 300 minutes a month is more than adequate.

First time I am trying out Wimax 4G. Very impressed. Got 11mbps download and 1.7mbps upload inside a restaurant in direct line of sight to the tower and was able to Skype. Also Skyped while driving around... very impressed.

As a comparison, my home cable internet costs $55 a month and is only 8mbps normally. On VM, I am paying only $35! This is awesome! The only drawback is that my place is in a marginal Wimax zone so no signal inside.

Nope, transferred one line from AT&T to VM last year, took about an hour overall, but nothing this bad. Make me think maybe Verizon is not cooperating.

As a dealer, Doing a port in from Verizon, It's a really big nightmare. They are horrific about letting their numbers go.

They'll shut a customers line off temporarily so the port process will be affected. They'll call the customer and harass them repeatedly.

Heck, I've even seen the customer get their phone turned off and NOT turned back on to cause the port in to fail.

That company gives me nightmares. As I go to work today I have to face a possible Verizon failed port in.... And my new customer is out of town. *Sighs*

Yeah the big boys must be shaking in their boots with this phone coming out on no contract.. Good riddance to them and their ripoff ways.. I would use a can and string before concidering Verizon again..
