Handcent not downloading pix

When I first installed Handcent, whenever someone sent me a pic it just popped right up on my screen. No action needed on my part to open a file or anything.

About 2 days ago it started sending these "Download" boxes instead. I press the box that is in the txt msg and it reads "downloading".

Two Questions:
1. Where do those pix download to?
2. Sometimes it says "unable to download"..... now what?! It doesn't tell me why it cannot download the pic.

As far as I know, this is an issue with the MMS feature on the device. Even if you have a 3rd party message app, the original service for MMS still goes through the built in feature. At present time, a factory reset might solve the issue temporarily, but not a guaranty. The issue seems to be addressed in 2.1 as far as I can tell from the ROM I am running on my hero. Unfortunately, it is a wait and see situation. Please someone correct me if I am wrong, because I would love to know the solution.

Looks like you are rooted... do you have this prob with MMS?

I have not had the issue since I rooted that I can remember.

This is a Sprint issue that they are blaming on Android s/w. There are several older threads, but I'm surprised that these threads aren't at the top. Maybe a lot of users are being patient and believe 2.whatever will fix this and the healthcare issues. Don't hard reset....

OK, thanks. Weird thing is today I was able to get one of two pictures I was sent. Random....

So if Sprint is blaming Android, is Android blaming Sprint? If so, my guess is that there won't be a fix!

I think it is a bit of both to be honest. Since having the 2.1 ROM installed, I have not had the issue once, which means it is not entirely Sprint. Also my friends Samsung Moment, which has the same plan structure and same data features, does not have the issue. Maybe it is an issue with the 1.5 Sense UI combined with Sprints crappy bloatware. Who knows what SW conflicts could be caused there.

Have you tried a program called "SaveMMS"? I have had limited success with being able to get pictures received after the app is installed, prob won't get the previous ones though.

Hard reset only fixed the problem for about a month for me, and its not worth re-customizing everything that often. The best workarounds until they fix the problem are to either have people email the pics or go to the sprint picture mail website to view them.
