Help Swipe to silent, and other pointers

It's been a long time since I last used Android, and today I picked up a Galaxy Nexus in advance of the release of Jelly Bean.

The native OS has changed a lot since my last play, so I was hoping I could get some help finding some basic points:

I can't find how to put swipe to silent on the standby screen? The camera app is there, I'd like to remove that and put swipe to silent back. I really like that feature.

Can other shortcuts be put on the standby screen?

The onboard ringtones are rubbish, no standard ring ring? I've put some music on the phone, but can't seem to find the 'set as ringtone' option.

Would be grateful for some pointers. Many thanks.

Can other shortcuts be put on the standby screen? Not without root, unless you want to use something like widgetlocker app

Would be grateful for some pointers. Many thanks.

Hope that helps and wb to Andy!

Thanks for the quick reply. I find it a bit disappointing that adding features means rooting the phone.

Thanks again :)

I understand. But I did mention alternative apps like widget locker. With the app support for Android you can do just about anything (aesthetically and functionally) w/o having to be rooted. Just have to hunt down those apps. So, theoretically, you do not have to root to get the customization you seek, but rather just be creative in your app selection :)
