Yeah now that you brought that up yeah chazz will be happy with that now what would you do if you have to pick between the s3 or the nexus which one would you pick they both seem the same in a way

I wouldn't mind getting the nexus if it came to metro especially with the device getting the jellybean update.

Anyone have some sources to go along with the rumors?
My friend welcome to the metro sub-forum where we go by rumors and speculations and only 10% legit info lol no one seen a metro branded s3 all we have seen are metro branded s2 which will have more or less same specs as the esteem just have a lil nifty tv tuner built into to entertain u when ur bored lol just dont ever use it while driving:(

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the quad core is limited to international sales. We're stuck with a dual core in America. However, it's 2GB of RAM, compared to 1 GB.

I prefer the rectangular look of my LG Esteem. Anyway, I am not updating untill my Esteem does everything I need it to do.

Regardless of what comes out, I aint switching until the dev is built up a little bit. Granted it wont take long but Im just saying.

Completely agree with you. I received a free sg2 a while back. But I sold it instead, because it didn't have the support this phone has had. Plus I would hate to leave this community. :D

Maybe the reason why they arent coming out with better phones is bc the Esteem didn't sell a lot, like they were hoping. A little too expensive maybe? So if they come out with "better" phones, most likely Esteemers would buy it, since we showed that we are willing to pay that much. I hope we do get something better tho.

Who's stuck? Just go get the international quad core with HSPA+ sim card on Straight Talk's BYOD plan. (not to be confused with regular Straight Talk which sells crappy phones.)

I just bought TWO Galaxy Nexus for me and my wife, and ordered two Straight Talk "AT&T" sim cards. By this weekend, I will be gone from MetroPCS.

There's even people running Galaxy S IIIs already on Straight Talk with speeds faster than MetroPCS LTE.

The BYOD part of Straight Talk started back in February, but I paid no attention. I thought it was just bring old sim card phones to Straight Talk. I didn't realize they had HSPA+ speeds 5mbps - 12mbps on AT&T and T-Mobile networks. For $45 per month.

_______________

Here's what I wrote over in another forum:

I will definitely be leaving MetroPCS this next week.

I'm tired of waiting for a good spec/large screen/major name brand LTE phone for my wife, and I want more than Gingerbread single-core early 2011 specs (LG Revolution clone) for myself. ICS has been out since October 2011, Jelly Bean this year, and all of Metro's phones still have Gingerbread?

MetroPCS promised 5 or 6 LTE Androids in 2011 alone, and they only released TWO the entire year. By June 2012, they finally released 5, but I am underwhelmed by most of them. I don't want a crappy Huawei. I have an LG Esteem but I want even better than that.

They also promised to finish their LTE rollout (completely overlaying their CDMA coverage) by END of calendar year 2011. Then, they delayed the rollout finish to Q1 2012, and the latest "promise" is by end of Q3 2012.

My wife keeps begging for a better phone than her old LG Optimus M, and I kept waiting for Metro to keep their promises. Why lay down $300 or so on a "new" phone if Metro is going to release something great (ICS, Jelly Bean, dual core, 1GB RAM, etc) soon?

I finally got tired of waiting.

I found a way to get latest phone I want for (pre-paid) $45 per month (plus a dollar or two tax) for unlimited talk/text/data. (and yes, the "unlimited" data will probably be throttled after 2GB, but so what).

nexusgalaxy.jpg

21f9e733nexus-hspa.jpg

It's still a freakin' Galaxy Nexus for $46 or $47 per month, with HSPA+ speeds. (around 5mbps) and nationwide coverage (on AT&T's network, but it's through Straight Talk's BYOD plan). The "device" I'm bringing is a new Galaxy Nexus, actually two of them. :)

I've ordered two Straight Talk sim cards (specifying the AT&T network), I've ordered two Galaxy Nexus phones for me and my wife. Comes with ICS and Google provides an OTA Jelly Bean update.

I'll update my profile AFTER everything is changed over. :p Until then, I still have an LTE LG Esteem and a CDMA-only LG Optimus M on MetroPCS. After that, I'll have two Galaxy Nexus on another pre-paid service...

I've been with MetroPCS for over a dozen years. I appreciate the escape they gave me when Verizon was molesting my wallet every month. But now the relationship is over. :( If they had kept their LTE rollout and LTE phone promises, maybe it would be different...

But I'm tired of always waiting on them. And suddenly through the information from hellojustinr, my eyes were opened that I don't have to wait anymore. :D I can have the phone I want NOW. I can have the same speeds at Metro's LTE NOW (maybe slightly faster); I don't have to worry about 1x roaming on Sprint with no data. :p And best of all, I'm actually saving a couple of dollars per month over the $50 plan my wife and I are on; I'll be paying LESS than $100 per month. MORE for less money. WOW.

I knew about Straight Talk, and I knew about their BYOD plan... But I did NOT know it included both AT&T's and T-Mobile's HSPA+ speeds. OK, with AT&T's Straight Talk plan, it seems to be capped at 7mpbs. But that's like saying you're only going out with every one of the AFC teams' cheerleaders of the NFL, but not ALL the NFL team cheerleaders. At some point, it doesn't matter. ;) 7mpbs is faster than anything I got with Metro's LTE, and much faster than anything we got with the CDMA LG Optimus M (which my wife still uses).

Thanks, hellojustinr.

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus -- one of the best phones there is except for the new Samsung Galaxy S III.

Google provides an OTA update for the Galaxy Nexus to Jelly Bean 4.1. Currently, the ones bought through Google Play will have Jelly Bean already installed. No need for OTA update.

Oh, and here's a speed test on an iPhone 4S on ST BYOD:

It is $45 + taxes and fees, isn't it?

It's $45 + tax, which equals another dollar or two.

However, people say when you go to "fill up" just give a non-tax state like Oregon and there's no tax.

Plus if you fill up for 3 months, 6 months at a time there's a discount. Brings it down to the low $40s.

Still, even $46 or $47 is CHEAPER than I am paying now ($50). And I get to use a Galaxy Nexus on a true nationwide network at up to 7mbps (on the ST "AT&T" sim) or even 12mbps (on the T-Mobile sim).

No need to WAIT for MetroPCS to do anything.

I'm still an ANDROID fan. No need to give up my Androidfourms PREMIUM membership! :)

I was one of the first to post in this Metro LG Esteem section..

I'm the one who posted the leaked LG Esteem video on line last August.

Heck, I'm the one who got this section renamed from "Bryce" (the code name) to Esteem.

Before that I was one of the first to post in the MetroPCS LG Optimus M section (which was Metro's first Android).

I love the Nexus so I wish you well. I've heard horror stories about throttling from either AT&T or ST themselves so I'm sticking with my grandfathered Metro plan cuz I'm heavy user lol. I usually get 2000-6000 on my speed tests where I live and that's more fast enough for me for the foreseeable future. A work friend of mine just activated the 4G Boost Mobile HTC Evo. He's a heavy user too so it will be interesting to see if Sprint is gonna be "unlimited" on their prepaid companies or if they're gonna use the "Sprint is unlimited but Boost and Virgin are separate entities" excuse.

I might be right behind you. The S3- international sound superb. I might even look into the LG Optimus 4X HD. Though, I haven't really been impressed with LG lately. Thanks for the idea.

I was thinking about a GN on ST byod deal (Especially sense they dropped the price to $350!) but...was wondering about insurance? Do they offer it? Couldn't find any info on it. Was also considering the Evo V (Evo 3d) on VM cause I need insurance if the GN can't be insured. Would be nice if the GN can be insured cause I really want that phone and was even considering selling my a500 to get a N7 (To have both Nexus devices :)) but the 7.7 inch screen vs. a 10.1 is kind of a draw back but just might be worth it for the quad core. So many choices!!! :D

On topic Metro sure has gone the wrong way and would love to see them get a good phone SOON!

Buy the way, have you noticed that Straight Talk will likely to terminate your service if you go over 2GB data limit. It is quite inconvenient.
