Root Making ICS ROM For Connect/Esteem (Read it!)

Not open for further replies.
Great News , The testing has had its fails and its glory , and I have finally found a way to keep the filesize low and nice ,

I want a little question , Would you wait 1-2 weeks more to get a jellybean ROM instead of a ICS Rom?

Also The Beta has all the apps finally stable with no issues , Fixed the "Cannot Connect To Camera" issue for people running Broken Out ROM or even stock , Launcher ported from Galaxy Nexus and edited with a few settings and options ,

One downside , Im not sure for you but for me it is not bad , After you install the ROM it will lower your Pixel Density (DPI) to 180 , instead of the standard 240 , so You will have everything smaller , it happens so you get the Galaxy Nexus , almost experience and it will come with a LCD Density app , I warn you all

If you change it on the LG Connect (Density) Dont go into the 140-160 areas or even lower , Your phone will work and after you turn it on from standby , Massive lag! 180 is medium and no lag , so it is the best way currently to get smaller icons and it looks a lot better

Also , System Apps Replaced by ICS Ones ( Backup your current apps if you like them like the default calender)

I have screenshots and I will post them next time I log in , I will give proof of my work , also , the lockscreen is ICS but in the system settings , There is a lockscreen option , and you can switch to the Jellybean Lock screen , Face unlock also in settings!

Gestures to unlock as well....

The file size at this moment is 156 MB , Which I find ok , while others might not , Tell your opinions about the size , I am sorry I don't have much time , I want to provide this and then start making my own projects and games for the Play Store...

At this moment here is some info

ICS Rom (LG Connect) (Sorry , I kinda ditched the LG Esteem for a long time)
Size : 156 MB Currently
Installation Time (In Recovery Mode with ROM Manager) : 5 minutes estimated
First Boot : 3 minutes
Average boot time without extra apps : 24 seconds
Changes : Way too many , Lets say over 50 changes that make it better than the ICS you find on smartphones from Google and ETC ....

News - Wont take long now to finish...

See you next time

Is it possible for you to release both?

Been reading along this thread.. as the ICS jumped out at me, and me planning on purchasing this phone, wanted to know how this was coming along, from everything ive read, this is a cooked rom, not ICS, however, When i first posted on the Opt M forum that i was going to try to build an AOSP ICS rom on Nov 21st 2011, i said int he post i would try to have it up in a couple days. This was my absolute first attempt at compiling anything android, except apps.. i took the learn to program apps route first.. Now a couple days in my ignorance was a joke, but i did have a booting beta up in about 4 weeks.. I also had alot of help from alot of devs, including PlayfulGod and many others, and greatly appreciated their help, and i welcomed their help being a newcomer, and it got me very far int he process. Since then i havent had the time to continue my efforts until recently, almost a year later.. but most oft he problems with building ICS for a GB phone is not in the ROM, its in the Kernel. now there is LG ICS kernel source released, hope has again become a reality. All im saying with this is that yes it is possible to have a beta of ICS up in a few weeks. However, this is unfortionately a cooked rom.. and straight forward answers from the beginning would have aleviated alot of criticism.

I been saying that to all the 'out-of-the-woodwork devs' that have been popping up lately and none seem to frigging listen or get it. ;)

Also I dont get why so many are just theming existing ROMs and releasing them as a new ROM instead of just doing it as a theme. ;)

When is this ics rom coming out??? Tired of waiting..
my guess, not happening, this is the usually the ending when sum1 pops up out of the blue making claims of doing something with no background or history in the android community.

Now he still might come thru, but I wouldnt hold my breathe. ;)

I have to admit, I got excited when I saw the OP. Then I started reading. The OP is a newcomer, and while it is possible that he might be some kind of Android genius, his timeframe was nearly impossible.
Final Release Date - September , 10 , 2012
I know it is a long time to wait , But the more people that test , the faster we test , The faster it will finish , We might even have it done in august !

That was yesterday. No activity from OP since July 30th.

Flamez, I'm not trying to put you down here, but you're not instilling much confidence in us. You say you're porting a ROM, yet you don't understand how to flash a ROM or a theme, and you can't figure out how to find the instructions to do either of these. For me, just learning how to root, and flash a ROM &/or theme took ALOT of trial and error. I only (barely) learned how to do any of this by asking a heck of alot of noob questions. (Thanks PlayfulGod, Tokenpoke, & Gbiggie) I would not even CONSIDER porting a ROM.

If someone wants to point PG over here or someone who knows how to dev...

The LG Viper on sprint is the sister phone to the Connect, identical in almost every aspect except for the antenna frequencies, and LG has released on their open source site the ICS update to that phone.

Open Source Main Just search for the LS840 and you'll see it on the next page. It just has to be compiled in Android SDK and tweaked to work on our phone.

I don't know how to build ROMs but this can EASILY, we should be easy enough to hopefully port over to the Connect for anyone who would like the challenge.

Easily my ass, I have yet to get LG's Android patches to compile for any of the LG's I've worked on.

Also they are other differences in the Viper, like its partitions are different, hardware wise, yes about the same.

Now if/when the viper gets the ota, rooted n then partition dumps obtained, then maybe it can be ported over... that is if the bootloader gets unlocked or bypassed, which will prolly be locked on ics.

And matter of fact I have had that src for a few days, the kernel wont even compile with their defconfig. ;)

Ah gotcha, yea I just read up on some people trying to compile it but it would only compile on Linux not on Windows...well hey it was worth a shot throwing this out there cause I didn't see anyone post anything about it on here.

since when can you compile a linux kernel in windows?
