And due to VM discontinuing the phone I presume, Best Buy says its worth zilch....

Best Buy Trade-In

Time to start rooting away if you haven't already :D:rolleyes:;)

I think it's worth zilch because 1)it's from a non-contract carrier & 2)it really wasn't that expensive to begin with. I mean the retail for a Galaxy sII new on Tmobile is still over 500 bucks- I'm guessing only top end phones get you any kind of money for trade-in at BB.

Depending on how long that your willing to wait you can probably get $125 or so on Craigslist or Ebay. Especially if you're like most Triumph owners and have spare batteries and such from replacement devices. You don't pay any fees upfront on most listings on Ebay and Craigslist is obviously free but a much smaller pool of potential buyers. I always list my phones on both.

Radioshack actually DOES take trade ins.

I went to trade in my triumph to get the EVO V

They offered me 35$ credit, and that was becuase I still had the original box and charger and spare batteries.

I laughed, sold the phone on craigslist, met the buyer of the phone in that same store just 3 hours after I tried to trade it in and the radioshack salesman watched her hand me 160 for the triumph, which I then used on the EVO V 4G

If I was to sell on ebay amazon or craigs do people generaly get more for the triumph when it has been rooted w/a custom rom flashed? Or do you think a second hand buyer would just want a plain ole' stock phone that hasnt been messed with?

Whats a decent price to list it at? The previous poster mention $160!?!? Are they really worth that much?

There are a few problems with your theory.

1. Virgin Mobile does not allow anyone to remove a phone from an account, although they will do it for you after 3 months of non-payment.

this means that you have to sell your phone WHOLE with account, phone number, login details, to the new buyer. and I'm sure they dont want your used account and your number and you want to keep it.

that leaves the only other option, which is what I learned when I did this.

You have to buy the new phone FIRST, transfer it to your current account, and then virgin will deactivate the old phone

after thats done you can sell it.

but the new person CANNOT ACTIVATE IT with a custom rom..

you ABSOLUTELY have to put it back to stock rom.

the root doesnt matter, but it has to be stock rom with the activate app.

if this sounds like a hassle, its becuase it is. I had to do it all in store when I sold my triumph. she gave me the cash and I used it to buy the EVO V then I had to spend time in the store transferring the evo v to my account before it would let her activate the triumph.

if you DONT follow this method, your going to have an angry buyer following you around thinking you sold them a bad phone. you dont want that

I only got 160 becuase the phone was in almost brand new condition with the box in new condition, 2 spare batteries, a nice case in good condition too.

if you only have the phone and charger, dont expect much. oh and people dont REALLY care about the original box its just nice to have, you cant ask more for it..

id say 100-120 is fair but only if your battery door is tight and the screen has no scratches. also the body needs to be in fair decent shape
