So, its official. I am stepping off of the sidelines and im going to root this bad boy using this method ( RegawMOD EVO 4G LTE Rooter | Updated 08.17.12 )
[ROOT] RegawMOD EVO 4G LTE Rooter | Updated 08.17.12 - xda-developers

Figures i go to download the application i need for my 64bit system and the site says its undergoing scheduled maintenence. maybe this is a sign. lol

If i have any questions along the way im sure you guys will have my back if i run into anything. ( Thats why i donate to/love this forum) Hopefully everything goes nice and easy. :D

OK, so first question. I understand that i will be loosing everything on my phone and i have reset my google wallet. But one of the first steps on the thread is to make a titanium backup. Dont you need to be rooted to do that??

One thing you're going to need to workaround when flashing ROMS is the restictions your hboot places on the recovery.

The HTC DEV unlock method wont allow your recovery to write to the boot partition. The issues is this is where the kernel is stored. Luckily our great devs have many workarounds for you guys with 1.15.

I would suggest this, its got some good info & we haven't gotten the revised guide up quite yet.

If you aren't familiar with adb I'll give you this quick write up.

Download the mini-SDK here and move it to something like C:\Android\platform-tools
our forums' mini-sdk

It contains:

adb.exe - Windows adb utility
fastboot.exe - Windows fastboot utility
fastboot-windows.exe - Windows fastboot utility
AdbWinApi.dll - adb link library for Windows
AdbWinUsbApi.dll - adb link library for Windows

These files will be used to push the boot.img (contains the kernel) from a ROM to your phone via fastboot.

I will use CM10 for the purposes of this post.

When you download your ROM and open it will look like this:

cm10.png

Copy the boot.img to the same folder as the mini SDK you've downloaded.
sdksetup.png

Plug your phone into the computer via USB and power the phone off. Then press volume down + Power to get to fastboot

Once there, we need to open up a command prompt in the location where your sdk-tools are. If you are in windows 7 you can just shift+right click to select "open command prompt from here"
opencommandprompt.png

If you don't have win 7 you can manually move to the file location with the command cd to change directory.
manualcmd.png

Once you are in the correct directory you just type in (without quotes) "fastboot flash boot boot.img" and hit enter
finishedbb.png

When going from Sense to AOSP based ROMS it is required to fastboot flash the boot.img or the ROM will not boot

There are other ways to do this, and the HTC dumlock feature of TWRP recovery is one of these methods. However, you'll have to read up on this yourself and I'm not as familiar with it as I should be yet

Awesome! Thanks so much! I want to make a nandroid before i do anything bc from what i understand if i screw anything up it will act as a time warp. But i cant find any write ups on how to create one?

RX i have folowed your instructions and have downloaded the mini-sdk and put it where you said. Took a couple mins to figure that one out. But-got it... now...

Id like to go with MeanRom, i keep following links to xda but i cant find where to download to rom to my laptop.

So.. 1. Make nandroid.
2. Titanium backup
3. Download meanrom
4. Try and act like my girlfreind exists... hehe:hmmmm: she currently thinks im crazy...

This is the OP for MeanRom over at XDA,

[ROM] Aug-17 MeanROM ICS v3.1 | 1.22.651.3 | 1.5-1.9 Ghz | Mods | Batt saver - xda-developers

At the end of the first post, right above, Click to Donate, Are 2 download links.

One is usually significantly faster than the other one but I can't remember which is which.

Be sure to read the second post too, it tells stuff about flashable zips in the meanrom ics folder it puts on your sd card to do stuff like oc and map buttons and landscape mode... It also tells about how to set the rom up in either performance mode or battery mode. Or it used to. let us know if you have any questions!

Triple post, wohoo.

More info on HTC dumlock

TeamWin Projects - HTC Dumlock | TeamWin

Basically it replaces your boot partition with recovery so that the TWRP recovery(which is now placed in boot) can write kernels to the boot partition (which is now placed in the recovery partition)

No I wasn't able to find it.. so a link would be excellent.

Titanium backup pro said I wasn't rooted but then it fixed itself so I deleted my above post

I dropped the ball on that one  Thanks dust for posting it up.

Please feed back to ocnbrze, if you've not already. :)

I'm still trying to work out HTC dumlock myself. Maybe I just need to try it out and see. I'm S-OFF, so anything I screw up should be reversible.

Creating nandroid as we speak

I created it through twrp and checked in es file explorer but i dont see it??

Its stored on your internal SD card in a folder titled TWRP

Hmmm, i see the folder but when i open it nothing is there. I booted into recovery. Then chose backup. Named it " Nandroid1" then hit back up.. after it finished its process i went back. Hit reboot. Then system. Did i miss a step there?

Nope you did it.

To verify the nandroid is located where it should be, simply go back into recovery, hit restore, and you should see your nandriod listed there.

This is also a good time to make your nandroid of your meanROM setup. I usually name the nandroid whatever ROM it is for quick reference as I keep both CM10 and MeanROM stored on the device

You are fine to flash MeanROM without using it. I would do a lot of reading before trying htcDumlock. I don't know enough about it yet to help if you get in a jam

You shouldnt even have to fastboot flash the kernel since its still a sense-ROM.

Just select wipe, wipe data/factory reset, system, dalvik cache, cache and then go back to the main menu, select install and flash your ROM.
