[Verizon] Getting verizon/samsung to replace phone

*22899 does nothing?

NO NO NO, you don't want to do that! That's for CDMA 3G phone's only. Since the Gnex is a 4g LTE, this won't work. Not only that but it can ruin the phone / sim card. VZ should do a better job at warning ppl about it.

They say instead, do a battery pull. Pull the sim card, wait 30 seconds, put it all back together and power back on. Doing so refreshes the sim and you're location / towers. This may help depending on the problem you're facing.

*EDIT* k, I looked into it a lil more, I coulda been off here. It's actually an issue with *228 on thunderbolts. (Which explains why I thought of this. I tried 228 when troubleshooting my wife's TBolt back in the day)

samsung may push out the OTA however it has to be approved by verizon first, so expect it to come around september or later.

i hope your issue isnt going to get worse, i know mine continued to get worse, with this new device, i havent had any issues yet.

Yeah I bought my phone on eBay so I've got no Verizon warranty and Samsung said they won't replace it. I would have to send it in to have them fix it but that wouldn't actually do anything =-/

I had this issue a few days ago. My data bars would gray out, then I I was loosing all connection period. I loaded JBsourcery ROM, the problem got worse where I'd loose all service every 3-5 minutes. The next day I loaded my backup Liquidsmooth ROM and its been fine. I've had my phone for over 6 months and never had this problem until 2 days ago but now its fine.

I've used just about every ROM out there and I have constantly had the problem. Love AOKP and the GNex... HATE the fact I constantly lose service due to a script error or something on their side :(

Well my good luck came to an end last night. After updating a few apps I rebooted my phone and the data bars went gray and have been that way for almost 24hrs. I got 2 txts today some how and made one call but other than that my phone is shot. I even tried loading my backup like I did a few days ago but no luck. Really pi$$ed that this phone has been flawless for over 6 months and then just starts to do this. Looks like it back to my iPhone :-(

To the OP, i'm on the V. 10 hardware and i'm having this issue.

Main reason I left my nexus and went to the maxx was the data drops and horrible signal. You could try a factory reset, if that doesn't work if you bought it from Verizon they can replace it

This is more than just a data drop, I haven't been able to connect to the VZW network for over 24hrs. I can't make any calls, I can't receive calls, can't txt and can only access the internet on wifi. This is pathetic!!!

*22899 does nothing?

Yes, if you dial it, it does nothing at all and might hurt you as others have posted.

However I have an intersting thing to post about this. Where I live is an USCC 'home' area and when I received my I515 last Thursday and charged it, then powered it up, when it wanted to activate, it kept dialing *22899. I kept opening the dialer, ending the call, but it would just start dialing it again. And again and again. I couldn't even use the phone. So I powered it off, drove to where I knew I was in a VZW home area, powered it on and dialed *22899. That failed. But then I just let the phone do it's thing, which was dial *22899 and then it activated.

Go figure.

JE78 i must inform you it is the phone, and the only way to correct the problem is to replace the phone, if you have warranty, or insurance this can easily be achieved.

it is something I highly recommend you do.

the problem is with the radios/basebands
you need the .9 baseband

and the only way to fix this is to replace the device, it is what is messed up, it is a combination of samsungs crappy radios and build of this phone, and verizon rushing them to get it out so they can be the first us carrier, sprint gnex/and other GSM gnex should not have the issue. it is a vzw problem and unfortunately there is not going to be a fix for it unless you exchange the device.

i hope this helps

I appreciate the suggestion. My friend just got a brand new GNex from Verizon, and her's is the .10 baseband and her phone works fine. Obviously I don't have insurance on the phone so there isnt much I can do. I just find it hard to believe that the phone is shot. Looks like I'll be buying a Galaxy S3 next.

Here's my problem. My phone when activated looses service (cell & data) every 3 minutes. When it says its in service its really not, I can't make calls or send txts or use the any apps that require data so what this means is the phone is useless and unusable. There is no way i'm going to activate, put insurance on it, and request a replacement, they'll see though that and I I can't afford to keep the phone activated with no service for a week so it looks legit.

Also because the service loss is so consistent I don't think that the baseband is the problem. The problems you described were that your data would come and go, you would drop calls. My phone will not connect to the network at all so I think were dealing with 2 different issues.

I'm going to take my phone to the Verizon store tomorrow just to see what they say, I'm sure i'll end up walking out with an S3 though. I love my GNex but I'm not going to get another one and risk getting the .10 baseband or having another problem like this.

o no, dont get me wrong the last replacement only held connection for some time, and then drop calls.

my first .10 baseband phone, would connect to 4G drop it immediately and lose service, however if you put it on CDMA only it would stay connected. have you tried that?

i sincerely hope that your problem gets fixed, but as i said the baseband is the cause of this.

you may be on IMM76Q if you havent rommed the phone yet.

I've tried everything. When I was rooted I could even select EVDO (1x) data and I couldn't even connect to that. It might be the baseband but its just odd that ever 3 minutes on the dot the data bars all disappear no matter if I have 4 bars of 4G or 1 bar of 3G.
