what DON'T you like about s3

This is a great phone but I will say as a superior phone why doesn't it have hdmi out? I don't like touchwiz either, I run golauncher instead. But other than that it's an impressive device! Oh yeah the battery is crap but what android stock battery isn't? I'd prefer volume buttons over a rocker too and maybe dual SIM.

You won't find many modern day smartphones with HDMI out. It's because there's a new standard. It's called MHL. MHL is USB + HDMI in the same connector. There are a few options:

HDTV Adapter TIP (5 to 11 Pin Converter)

HDTV Universal Adapter (11 Pin) )

HDTV Adapter (5 Pin) w/ HDTV Adapter Tip

On my old HTC Desire when you were listening to music on it the player came up at the lock screen so you could skip a track / pause it without having to unlock the phone - I would have liked that on the S3.

Other than that when holding the phone in 1 hand and trying to press the power button I tend to catch the volume buttons, which is annoying. However the problem there is the carbon based operator as opposed to any fault of Samsungs...
download "double twist" i use it even paid for $10 for the pro version, well worth it.

...now only if someone could tell me how to edit the song and artist info???

Every reboot, I have to use *#0011# all over again to turn wifi power save off. Otherwise it just disconnects and reconnects repeatedly in the bedroom 30 feet away. I also have to go back in and turn on haptic feedback (not the auto haptic) in Sound settings every reboot.

I have the same "quirk" with the nighttime LED. I have to turn it off manually every night then hopefully remember to turn it back on in the morning. That's just a preference thing though -- I should just buy a NFC TecTile for my nightstand and do some programming.

My biggest gripe is I think an Android issue and not a GS3 issue -- the headset remote controls. As an avid runner, I hate that occasionally the headset remote buttons will get taken over by some other app (like Doggcatcher) even though I actively have the stock music player running. I have to stop running, fish the GS3 out of my waist pack, occasionally even reboot the phone, and *then* the headset remote buttons work for the stock player without accidentally running audio from Doggcatcher or Akimbo (audiobook player). I'm also forced to use the stock Samsung earbuds if I want mic, headset, and volume up/down pause/play feature to all work. (At least as far as I know. My Sony & iPhone earbuds with mic and remote don't recognize the mic or volume buttons thanks to Apple's proprietary-land).

In any case, it's still a much more featured device than the shiny new iPhone 5 ;)

My dislikes are some that others have pointed out. Some are Android specific, not this phone.

1. Icons on the screen don't move around when you try to add a new one to the screen, like in iOS. It outright even says, no more room on this screen, instead of just overflowing the existing ones to the next home screen.
2 . I don't know what will happen when I run out of space beyond the 7 Home screens. Likely I have too much junk, and can always put similar content in folders, but just thinking why they have such a limit in Android.
3. Speaker placement at back is bad. I Like the way iPhone has it at the bottom.
4. Cheap back plastic cover. The wanted to reduce the weight, so did this, but because of that, phone feels very warm...almost hot at the bottom, sometimes even after just 2-3 mins of normal use and definitely during charging. iPhone is well built. And for a similarly priced SG3 with not much cost for OS, I would have liked a better engineered phone.
5. My old Blackberry Storm 1 had ability to allow me to skip tracks using the volume buttons, once you start the music and screen turns off or locks. Nothing like this with built in App. Yes, I can get something like Folder play, but then I like the equalizers of the built in app.
6. Placement of volume and power buttons is not the most optimal.
7. I do have to agree with Apples approach of a narrower but longer screen as operating this phone with one hand is not possible. I did not think about this a lot before, but now after a month of use, it is beginning to bother me a little. But who knows, have not seen how the same video might looks in the longer iPhone 5 Aspect ratio versus this one.

3. the iphone speaker sucks complete balls though. so youd rather have a shittier quality speaker?
5. i agree i was surprised witht he lack of that feature. while double twist has a lockscreen feature, my jailbroken iphone had "activator" that allowed me to set a command to most any hard button, swipe or whatever. ive come to peace with the fact that all i have to do is swipe down to the s3's notifaction screen and the track controls are right there even avaible from the lock screen.
7. the larger screen is nice but its makes me think its just a "note-mini" sometimes, where that longer or the width of the iphone fits better as a cell phone should. im kinda torn on what id prefer.

you dont say...ive been calling it mini usb when its "MHL" and its in fact superior eh?

Honestly? Truthfully?

The plastic casing looks dirt cheap. No way in hell should this material be used on a flagship device. Never. It's like putting a Ferrari engine in a regular Ford. The specs and the inside is amazing but the whole feel makes it look cheap. The HTC ONE X feels and looks better. In terms of design and I mean no offense here the iPhone is the king of kings. I'm sure you'll try to disagree but whatever. Yes, looks are important. It's a great phone don't get me wrong I just wish they used different materials.

There are lot of things that are pretty bad on this phone

2, Lousy Battery life. Drains out in 4-5 hours of basic use

not sure what you are doing with yours; mine lasts over a day, with everything left on (gps, blutooth, wifi).

I did drain it in 13 hours yesterday running it as a wifi hotspot the entire time LOL

3. Cannot see the screen outdoors. One needs to be in shade or indoors to see the screen.

certainly not overly bright, but I can still see it unless the sun is reflecting direclty off the screen, in which case i just need to turn it slightly. could certainly be brighter tho.

4. Will not dial the favorites by single touch
5. To redial a received or missed call you need to go through atleast 2-3 selections.

hmm.. hitting the missed call in the notification bar brings up the missed call. swipe to left to reply with message or swipe to the right to dial the number. not show how that is inconvenient.

6. The screen icons do not automatically reorganize.

a definite deal breaker

Basically if you could get the IOS on samsung hardware you would have a winner. I have been using the iphone for 6 yrs and at that just the 3gs I feel the iOS has a superior user experience but the hardware of samsung galaxy is better.

Yikes. Okay, you like iOS, which is fine, but many would never give up Android for iOS on better hardware.. kind of defeats the purpose. The majority of peoople buy Android because they don't like iOS. While there are certainly some specific features to like, iOS certainly has a number of faults, which is why an alternative such as Android is thriving.

On my old HTC Desire when you were listening to music on it the player came up at the lock screen so you could skip a track / pause it without having to unlock the phone - I would have liked that on the S3.

Poweramp has that. There are other ways to get that I'm sure.

Other than that when holding the phone in 1 hand and trying to press the power button I tend to catch the volume buttons, which is annoying. However the problem there is the carbon based operator as opposed to any fault of Samsungs...

Actually I do think it's Samsung's fault. Not the best design IMO. Bothered me on my previous Galaxy; 2 years later it still bother me. The button placement could definitely be better.

not sure about the default music player but both mixzing and poweramp have editors built in to the players (tho poweramp it seems to have it's own and doesn't save info where other apps can read it)

1. There is a bug that prevents upload to Picasa when you have more than one account synced with your gmail address. Have to remove other accounts with that address for upload to work.

7. How could I almost forget the notification light. I want to be able to turn it off at night. Maybe this can be done with Tasker or something but I haven't tried. I just turned it off altogether.

Picasa works perfectly for me. I have two Google accounts on the phone. When I use the phone to upload anything to Picasa I even have a choice right on the screen to choose which account.

Use an NFC sticker to turn it off. Just place the sticker where you set your phone.

I really love this phone, except I wish I could have a single theme that themes everything instead of one for locker, one for SMS.......
Also don't like the ads that pop up... if you install certain or free themes. I, too do not like the button locations as I seem to always press them when holding my phone. That is mostly it.

1. Build quality for a flagship device is shocking, my battery cover has cracks in the paint just by getting removed a few times, the buttons feel wobbly and like they could fall out.

2. Notifications are unreliable and glitchy, sometimes my device doesnt alert me at all.

3. Cant copy paste anything, there is a lot of people with this issue and no resolution bar rooting or a factory reset which I done and the problem is back after a while.

4. External speaker sounds awful has to be the cheapest speaker they could muster and is placed in the most ridiculous area on the phone possible considering the phone will be 99% guaranteed to be lying flat on something.

5. Folders on the screen you cannot organise the contents the way you want as they just reset to which ever order the phone wants. ( I don't like other launchers stock touchwiz is the best looking IMO ).

6. Button locations, a lot of the time the way I grab the phone and press volume up/down or power button - I often hit the opposing button. The capacitive buttons for menu and back are too easy to press at the bottom of the device too.

And for the guy that says the Samsung hardware is better than iPhone, It maybe better spec'ed but that's about it. iPhone has far superior build quality, far superior materials used !

blue-ish tint, pentile screen and it's dim
Button placement and home button isn't that great
Camera doesn't handle light very well (I like one x camera better)
Contact joining doesn't work great
Signal was better with HTC evo 4g
Hdmi out like the brand new Motorola
Sound from audio has slight audio crackling
This is me nick picking to the extreme, love this phone everything works

Really though, what's the point of "superior build quality and far superior materials" if the battery can't be replaced? The battery is the achilles heel of the iPhone... Depending on usage and environment, you're looking to get about 1-3 years of solid performance. And you better not accidentally leave the phone in your car in summer, or else that extra heat will reduce the life even further.

Why make the hardware of the device able to last 10+ years when the device itself is hard limited to last much less than that.

I actually really like the materials used on the GS3... The frame, although plastic allows the phone to take accidental drops without much of a problem. Plus the plastic seems to be fairly high quality.

I've only had my S3 for a couple of days...came from a Droid X. I consider myself a noobie because I don't mod my phone. One thing I don't like about it is the location of the on/off rocker. It should be on the top. With my big hands it's easier to tap the switch, which turns the screen black until I touch the back button.

Second nit pick is I cannot transfer pix from the phone to my mac by simply plugging in the usb cable from phone to mac...The work around is Drop Box (thanks guys;))

Maybe after i've used the phone for a couple of months I find more things I don't like...:D

Cheers,
Steve

You would have to download the desktop version and the sync it up. However, when you install the prog it makes you download AVG/toolbar. There's no option to not install it. I believe you would have to uninstall AVG/toolbar after you install the program. Because of that, I never bothered to install the desktop version since I dont like being forced to have to install AVG.

Just choose advanced setup when instaling.

2. I don't like the way the gallery organizes photos

That was also one of my gripes. I didn't like flipping through work photos interspersed with personal photos. I figured out that you can just create sub-folders in the folder where all your pictures are. Just name the folder whatever you want and move your photos around.

Now my gallery has folders for personal, work, wallpapers, screenshots, etc.

Yes, in the future it's going to be a pain to always have to move photos. At least it's now organized so when I show people photos of work projects, they don't see the unreasonable amount of photos I take of my dog :p
