Help Convert 3D to 2D to view on computer.

Hello, my sisters wedding was last week and I have taken alot of video/pictures in 3d and alot of people would like copies, does anyone know of an easy way to convert the 3d pictures and/or videos into a 2d format so most people can view them on their computers... ect.

A program that can do this in batch is preferable would stink if i had to do it one at a time... thanks for the help!

Easy. Download This:
MPO Toolbox

Copy all of your 3D MPO pics to your windows computer. Click the first one, hold shift, click the last one to select them all, or just use ctrl-A.

Drag the selected files over the .exe file included in that toolbox called MPO2JPEGS.EXE.

Release the mouse button and watch as the app separates all the MPO files into their left and right jpeg images.

when you email then or even send them as a txt, there's an option to convert them into 2D.

Ok, I am assuming these mp4 videos I shot on my Evo need to be converted somehow to be viewed in 3D on the computer? I just get two videos side by side. Which program will convert these? Thanks

Since your monitor is not capable of displaying in 3D, the only way is to convert the 3D video to anaglyph. That's the red/blue 3D, and you'll need red/blue glasses to get the 3D effect. Google anaglyph converter to find some tools. Or, if someone around here has already done this, please recommend some good utilities to do this conversion.

The qHD display is a special dispaly from what i understand.
Give it a few years and i am sure we will see TVs capable of this.

Not true at all. I just uploaded a video I shot to Youtube and I can watch it back with glasses on my computer just fine. What I need is a program that will merge the 2 videos together as Youtube does when it converts it. Something that will take the stereoscopic video I shot on my Evo and convert it to anaglyphic 3D

My statement is true. I am refering to stereoscopic screens, such as the EVO 3D that do not require glasses.

what you did is completely different. So my statement is true in the fact that you are modifying a file to be a different format and requiring it to have glasses.

Just to clarify: glassless 3D is "autostereoscopic." Our Evo screen is autostereoscopic. But the pictures and movies we take with the phone are stereoscopic (because it involves capturing left and right stereo images). The term stereoscopic does NOT imply glassless at all.

There are many ways to perceive depth with a stereoscopic image on our PC. The easiest way is to convert to anaglyph and use anaglyph glasses. You can also view it side-by-side and then use either a cross-eye or parallel viewing technique to merge the images. The position of the L and R images will dictate which method of viewing. L+R -> parallel viewing. R+L -> cross-eye viewing. These techniques don't require glasses either, so they are referred to as autostereoscopic viewing techniques.

If using parallel viewing, the images cannot be more than 2 inches wide as they appear on the screen. Otherwise it becomes physically impossible to merge the images. I'll have to dig up an old thread where I posted examples of both.

When I watch 3D YT videos on my PC, I prefer a side-by-side presentation where L and R images are swapped, so I can employ a cross-eye technique. Most people, however have an easier time with parallel-viewing, but it requires that the images be small.

Stereoscopic monitors that would qualify for playback - without changing the movie content at all - would be active glasses, polarized passive glasses, parallax barrier, and lenticular.

Changing content or delivery allows old fashioned anaglyph glasses or dual-monocular glasses.

Glasses free 3d displays have been available in the commercial sector for quite some time.

At CES 2010, several consumer companies showed for-the-home glasses free HDTVs, including Samsung, Intel, and the world's largest OEM color TV maker.

There's nothing special about qHD other than an excellence in resolution and an ease in scaling from 1080p to 1/4 of that.

Hi is there anyway to convert mp4-3d files to regular 2d mp4? I took some videos and I want them to be converted to 2d. when i play the file on my computer I get a side-by-side video. Are there any programs to convert 3d to 2d?? thanks!

"conversion" would be to literally cut the video frame in half, keeping either the left or right side, and then stretching it to the proper aspect ratio. So any video-editing software with this kind of capability would work. But AFAIK, this is a manual process. It's not really a format or container conversion.

OK, you guys are all obviously really REALLY clever but I have a headache after trying to follow this thread, can I ask something?

I take a photo (or video) in 3D mode on my Evo and want to view the images/video on a 2D screen (1680x1050 2D laptop screen or 40" 2D LCD) which glasses do I need to buy?

I am guessing some 3D glasses is what I need which is completely fine by me. I love the Evo glassless screen but can appreciate that I need to put some specs on to view anything on other screens.

My problem is the complete utter amount of different types of "3D" glasses on ebay.

Could someone let me know what I should actually be looking for?

@secretperson not to completely hijack this thread but to watch 3D content on a 2D screen no matter what the size. You will need to convert it to anaglyph (red blue type) 3D and then buy whatever red/blue glasses that match the colors you converted it to. There are several red/blue type glasses you should haunt some Stereoscopic forums to find details about that. Most "3D" tvs use active glasses where the TV sends a signal via infrared (like a remote) and the glasses block one eye then the other in sync with the TV. Some newer TVs and theaters use passive glasses where their is a polarized film that matches the projector or the TV. The EVO 3D uses a beam spliter lens on the screen that sends the signal from the even vertical pixels to the left eye and and the odd vertical pixels to the right. That's why you have to hold it the exact right distance from your face to make it work.

There is an answer for you. Now I need to go and find a tool that will convert my 3D video to 2D.

By the way, if you rename the 3d pics to .jpg they open up just fine in the windows picture viewer.

Has anyone found a way to view 3D videos as 2D on their Mac or PC??? If I view the raw MP4 file on my computer directly from the camera, there is of course two images side by side. I could, and have managed to crop the video image in half, so only one side is showing, but for what ever reason each individual image is scrunched into a square, and is not widescreen. If I view the videos on the phone though the Android gallery app, and toggle the 3D button so it shows 2D, it looks good, and is widescreen like I want, so it clearly can be done somehow.

Has anyone found a way to view 3D videos as 2D

I looked for something to do that for another 3D camera and never found anything. I had hoped the phone itself would convert so was dismayed to find out it didn't or not that I know of yet.

Any number of converters for 2D to 3D. I thought it was a simple matter to do the seemingly obvious 3D to 2D conversion. A while ago I only saw some talk of such a thing and they made it sound difficult!

Sure hope this isn't another dead end question.

Since this forum post comes up high in Google searches I should probably update that I found a way to make 3D videos into 2D. It will work every time however you have to set some things every-time. I have posted a bug in the Handbrake forums describing the problem. https://forum.handbrake.fr/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=28127&p=129880#p129880

1) Download and install handbrake. HandBrake: Downloads
2) Load the video=> Click on Source, open file, then navigate to the video file you want to "FIX"
It should be a 1280x270 video file where the two "eyes" are anamorphic-ally squished to half width.
3) Start with the "Android Tablet" profile
4) Under the Picture tab change the settings to
a) Anamorphic to "Custom"
b) Above make sure that Width=1280 Height=720
c) Below check that "Display Width" is 1280" (I'm not sure what the PAR stuff is)
5) Under the Picture Tab still change Cropping to "Custom"
6) Change Left to 640 (cuts off left "eye" leaving the right "eye" which is more centered in the camera/phone)
7)Check the "Size:" Settings again sometimes touching one will effect the other
8) set the destination file where you want the video to be outputted.
9) Click Start.

In theory I should be able to make this a Pre-set and be able to export that and upload the file and recall all of these settings. However the "picture" settings don't seem to save or stick. If you make all the settings then load a different video you will sometimes have to fix the settings. It's odd and Like I said above I have filed a bug about it. Batch Processing: You can batch process more than one file.
1) click source
2) Open Folder
3) Select the Folder
4) under title select the video file you want to convert.
5) fix the picture settings listed above
6) Click "Add to Queue (changing settings after the file has been added to the queue wont effect video files already in the Queue)
7) Select the next video "source" under "title" and repeat.
8) If you would rather you can select each video change the picture settings then click on the arrow pointing down next to "Add to Queue" you can select to "add all" files from the folder.
9) of course click "start" to start "Fixing" the videos.

I'm not a handbrake expert I just had to figure this out on my own and that was painful so I'll try and save someone else the pain.
